Not everyone is thrilled by Disney’s World’s latest announcement.

The image shows a picturesque area featuring tall wooden totem poles and intricate carvings on a wooden structure, reminiscent of a forgotten park. In the background, there's a castle-like stone building under a partly cloudy sky, with trees flanking the sides. A few people are seen walking in the distance.

Things are always changing at Walt Disney World. From new rides and attractions to refreshed restaurants and shows, guests can always count on having something new to explore during their vacation. This rings especially true in 2025, with Disney currently in the middle of multiple large-scale projects and overhauls inside its Florida and California theme park resorts.

However, not all of these projects have been met with praise, with one recent announcement sparking controversy among fans and guests alike.

Earlier today, Disney Vacation Club (DVC) announced a new in-park Welcome Home Center at EPCOT. This location will allow DVC members to explore vacation options as well as relax and will feature a replica of the rooms found at Disney’s new Polynesian Village Tower expansion.

Reactions to this announcement have been incredibly mixed, with a decent chunk of the Disney community feeling quite disappointed.

“Apparently, they will only do something with EPCOT’s abandoned spaces if it involves DVC,” said one Twitter user. Too bad this wasn’t the Imagination lounge relocating.” Another user called the new DVC experience a “waste.”

One user called the new addition “tacky” in a post that has since gained quite a bit of support.

Honestly I’m sick of DVC. Keep DVC in the Resorts and out of the parks please. This model room and sales center in a beautiful, iconic EPCOT pavilion building is so tacky.

Work has been ongoing at the Canada Pavilion inside EPCOT’s World Showcase for quite some time, sparking many rumors and theories. Some assumed a new lounge or bar was being built, something that would fit in with Disney’s other recent projects at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.

Others speculated the new work was simply an extensive refresh of the Canada Pavilion. Controversial or not, it seems clear Disney is looking to provide value in any way it can for its DVC members.

This year marks a big one, not just for Walt Disney World but for Disney as a whole, with the company set to embark on some of its most ambitious and widespread changes and updates ever. Last year, Disney held its annual D23 conference, announcing several new rides, attractions, and entire theme park lands during the event.

Among these announcements was confirmation of multiple new rides and attractions inspired by Pixar franchises like Monsters Inc. and Cars, as well as more information regarding Disney’s ongoing transformation of Dinoland U.S.A.

Disney also shared more information about its plans to bring Pandora – The World of Avatar to Disneyland in California, a decision that has been met with lots of excitement as well as controversy.
