A large crowd of people stand gathered in a brightly lit area at night. A prominent sign in the foreground reads, "NO UNAUTHORISED PERSONS BEYOND THIS POINT." A Disney castle is visible in the background, illuminated and set against the night sky.

Having multiple degrees in a field and work related history didn’t even get me through the initial stages of the hiring process. Countless emails from HR stating “sorry we would like to inform you that we have reviewed your qualifications and will be moving forward with someone who’s qualifications better fit our needs”. And finally when I did get a call back I wasn’t even offered the positions I applied to and offered a position with lower pay. I rightly refused and responded with I didn’t apply to this position because of these duties and pay would be career regression and not career progression, and why would you even call to offer me a position I didn’t apply to. And if the position was offered to a current employee the application should have been internal only.

90% of the jobs in the parks at Disneyland and Disney World are minimum wage jobs. I worked for Disney part time for 8 years. It was the perks, not the hourly wage I wanted.
When I left they were pushing me toward management, I didn’t want the stress, so I left. And the Castmember in the story talking about upper management working in different aspects of the park, that is the Disney-way. If this person took Traditions, they would know even Walt worked concessions and worked the rides.
I’m over the whining about minimum wage…..it’s a starting point. If you work hard, learn your job and show growth and responsibility, you will be promoted.

Not true at all nothing has anything to do with how you perform your job or the credentials you have.

It’s based on whom you kiss butt with.

  3. I worked at Didney onced. It was the 80’s. I was impressed with their cross-training philosophies. Yes, if you work diligently, improve your skills and show you want to grow, they promote you. It’s on us to get better, and get higher pay . You can always apply internally for the other jobs and apply for jobs with more attractive pay. Yes, the inflation in the food, housing, insurance areas is real and yes, I can also understand how those pay rates of $15.00 an hr would not balance the budget in the households.

It might have been that era you speak of that did that but that isn’t how it works now especially if you are an older worker. If you don’t start in the cp program you won’t get anywhere now. Once you are working there you stay in the position you are in and can’t go further unless you really suck up to the in crowd which were once a cp.
