A Hong Kong Disneyland guest recently shared a concerning photo of Buzz Lightyear covered in a white sheet after collapsing face down on the ground. Families looked on as Disney cast members tended to the fallen character performer.
Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, and the international Disney parks are home to thousands of entertainment cast members who bring onscreen magic to life in front of guests. “Face” character performers play speaking roles, like Peter Pan or your favorite Disney Princess. “Fur” character performers portray mascot-like roles, like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck.

When interacting with Disney Park guests, character performers are traditionally accompanied by attendants who monitor guest behavior. They also look out for emergency signals from performers and keep track of the set schedule.
Unfortunately, character attendants can’t always prevent guests from behaving inappropriately around performers. Redditor u/miloworld recently shared this photo of two Disney cast members tending to Buzz Lightyear after an incident with a guest:

The Disney Park guest explained that “some passionate kid may have hugged Buzz from behind,” sending him face-forward onto the pavement. Disney cast members covered him with a sheet as they communicated with the fallen performer.
It’s unclear if the Disney character performer was injured. Although the white sheet certainly looks ominous, some Disney Parks fans indicated it may have been guarding a costume malfunction rather than a life-threatening injury.

“I’m guessing part of the costume came apart and they are covering it up rather than revealing that it’s a dude in a costume to the kids walking around,” u/JoeBethersonton50504 commented. “Not sure what’s less traumatic – finding out the characters are just people wearing costumes or walking by what looks like a dead Buzz Lightyear covered with a sheet.”
Other Disney Parks fans agreed that the white sheet could disturb some guests.

“That’s scary looking!” u/Jolly_Blueberry_6192 replied. “[They] should put up one of those Tent things they use for injured players at football games!”
