With inflation, and the prices to live currently. Let the coasters rust. This is corpate greed.

    These parks are a joke

Absolutely pathetic. There are plenty of Americans to take the jobs but they don’t want to pay a proper wage and benefits. This is exactly why these companies want to bring in foreigners for cheaper labor. Notice how these foreigners don’t have to pay taxes? Wonder who pays the bill if they get sick? How many millions does the CEO and upper management make? Slave wages is all Americans companies want to pay. Outlaw these practices of bringing foreign workers.

I agree I’m seeing a lot if pay cuts in a lot of big companies so that’s definitely a sign of greed

The turnover rate is partially because these seasonal workers (which in past decades) have mostly consisted of college students. – Kids these days don’t want to work. Soon you’ll have to hire all immigrants. This is heading to a horrific ending.

Time for a career change. Amusement Parks, much like fast food, make their money on the backs of unskilled labor, it shouldn’t be more than a pause in your development.

If you’ve been there in recent years you will know that most employees are foreign. Try riding any rides. They can’t communicate. You can’t understand a single word of their “preride speech”. Ask for help, they can’t, because they literally don’t speak English. I’m all for diversity but get real. And now you cut pay and say “glad we hire foreigners because of that exchange rate!” Wow!

I went to CP for the first time in over 10 years in 2024. I did notice the foreign workers. The Aunt Ems ice cream line was backed up with over 15 customers waiting. The poor kid from Egypt was not very well trained and struggled to make a simple milkshake and fill an ice cream cone. This article is on point. In today’s dire economic times with the increased inflation over the past 4 years it would be very hard to live on-site with the rent and expenses occurred by the workers on-site. I have been going to CP since the 1960s and have always enjoyed the rides and atmosphere of the park. Hopefully Six Flags can find a better solution to this cost-cutting measure to ensure the safety and integrity of this great American institution. With the increase in the cost of admission and food cost maybe they need to keep the pay rates to attract a better workforce. If not then the cost-cutting measures should translate into reduced admission cost. 😆😎

I’m sorry to say, but I’m afraid their collaboration with 6 flags will be Cedar fairs downfall. The quality of safety coming from employees worries me now. Will they still want to do the full job of safety checks for what they are getting paid for? 6 flags is known for accidents.. come on cedar fair, decline the contract!😥

Six Flags isn’t “known for accidents”. Let’s be truthful here. Cedar Point can’t keep TFD running without injuring people either on it or in line.

So, with the pay cut to employees!? I am guessing The gate prices are coming down too!? … Outstanding!!

This appears to be the beginning of the end for cedar point. Six flags was run into the ground by the guy who was named to the board of directors after the merger. The president came from Cedar Fair, but it’s reasonable to assume cost cutting measures are coming from the board. It always boggles my mind when profitable companies merge with insolvent ones and people from the insolvent one are allowed to have any voice at all after the merger. What costs will get cut next, i wonder? Maybe they’ll stop investing in top notch coasters. That should pinch a penny.

You are absolutely right. My home park Six Flags Great America in Chicago was literally run into the ground in just a few years after that CEO took the reigns. He bragged about making the park the “Disney of the Midwest.” He raised prices to draw a wealthier park goer and exclude those who “didn’t spend money in the park.” A season pass went from $75 to $350. They cancelled memberships and lost nearly 75% of their season pass holders because people wouldn’t pay that kind of money. They raised the daily ticket price. Parks were empty… and this was AFTER Covid. He bragged about saving money on staffing. During peak summer days they didn’t have enough employees to run the rides, causing ridiculously long lines in a park with significantly fewer park goers than normal. They started skipping on maintaining rides and multiple rides closed for “temporary maintenance” and never reopened. The park looked worse and worse each year… overgrown with weeds and peeling paint. Crime increased in and around the parks. It was a sh*t show. Prices finally started coming down at the park a couple years ago as they became desperate to draw people back but the damage was done. There was even rumor of a coupe within the company as a result of his poor management. Not long after, word of a possible merger with Cedar Faire hit the news. I’m dumbfounded why they let that idiot have any decision making for the new venture. I was happy to see he was not named CEO of the new company but ANY possible influential role is too much. He’s a liability to Cedar Faire and hopefully they oust him for their own survival.

  9. Merging with Six Flags was a big mistake.
This will become more and more obvious after six flags’ business model takes over Cedar Point.
    Attendance numbers will begin dropping.

  10. Randy

Well…there goes my decision to buy a season pass. Looks like we will be going elsewhere. Lose quality workers? You will lose business big time. That’s a shame

  11. Pj

Unsafe rides will be the result

The foreign workers need a sponsor. The sponsor collects a fee from worker. Sounds borderline human trafficking scheme. Skilled labor and English speaking employees are essential for safety to remain a priority. If those are not being set at the forefront I highly recommend no one goes so the get a clear picture very quickly that it’s unacceptable in this day and age. Priority’s are being sacrificed for profit. Make it look like wally world when only the griswalds show up.

The people are not stupid anymore- Trump should eliminate this J1 Visa Program for Companies to rob local residents of jobs. I haven’t been to cedar point in 10 years because of the cost and crowds anyways.

The $5 pay incentive for working during the pandemic ended 3 years ago at most parks. The temporary workers compensation is based on job title, there are no pay raises, even if you have worked there for years and have increased sales for the park. There is no negotiating pay. If the employee is put into a job where they are constantly busy versus an employee who has nothing to do, and both have the same title, they get paid exactly the same. If you have worked for six flags for ten years and a new hire has the same job title, you get paid exactly the same.

    1. William

      Sounds like Walmart

    2. Lisa

I agree, I work at six flags America in security for 7 years and in the end I was getting paid the same amount as new hires. The pass prices increased and so did the cost of food, and the guests suffered the consequences

  15. Chuck U Farley

At least meet it halfway. $17.50/hr isn’t bad to sit in a chair all day.

Why the f*** would cedar fair ever absolutely ever get in bed with six flags??? The beauty of Cedar Fair was It was a small localized Regional entity that was putting on a show that was world class. Six Flags is a worldwide company operating on a Carnival quality. Never ever have I like six flags Cedar Point yes they got outrageous with their prices a long time ago they priced the little guy out a long time ago you can’t go there without dropping a grand. Who the hell can afford that in the employees mostly the American ones and you know the ones I’m talking about look at you like how dare you come over here and ask for something how dare you get in this line and make me work I’ve never been more disgusted and let down from a place that I have such fond memories of as a kid. You should go there as a kid back in the 90s and we’d run that Park all day my parents didn’t make a ton of money but we eat our way from the park lines would never be long at the concession stands employees were nice decent Americans and foreigners alike but today this generation this lazy handout everything entitlement black worker is disgusting.

    1. JZ

      Bonkers

    2. jacksays

Cedar Fair hasn’t been a small localized park entity in years. Not since they followed the same model as Six Flags, with Dick buying up Paramount, etc. and saddling the company with debt.

Wake up! You work at an amusement park. Don’t expect to buy a car or a house. Expect to share an apartment with others or live with family and for don’t freaking have a child. You want this? Move into management at the park or get the skills needed to work for real money.

    1. Alice

They shouldn’t have been surprised this would happen just surprised it lasted as long as it did. Lot’s of other programs went back to what they were before.

  18. Alice

I’m not surprised I mean many things got taken away after the pandemic. Snap went back down to just once a month people who were aloud to work from home had to come back into work or be fired. I mean they should be happy they kept it for as long as they did. It sad and I feel for them but I knew it wouldn’t last forever.
