I’m sorry, but this is a dumb idea. A kid that knows nothing about the series would not understand any discrepancies, though they would probably figure it out if they saw the show at some point, depending on their age.
For one thing, though Xander and Willow were childhood friends, Buffy didn’t move to Sunnydale until she was a teen. So they never met as kids.
I think it would be better if they wrote about Buffy as a kid and her realization that she was special. Likewise, a separate story about Xander and Willow could be written, laying the groundwork for their personalities as teens and young adults.
