The Universal Orlando Resort has extended the closure of its Volcano Bay water park through December 6, 2024, confirming the closure in a recent post on Twitter. Volcano Bay was originally intended to reopen today following a week-long closure, but the resort has confirmed that the water park will remain closed until at least the weekend.
While Universal Orlando Resort is home to two theme parks and a dedicated shopping and dining center, visitors looking to take a break and relax in the sun can head to Volcano Bay, a massive, tropical-themed water park.
Filled with fun water slides, delicious treats, and incredible detail, Volcano Bay is a water park worthy of visiting alongside Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida theme parks.
However, as is the case with most aquatic entertainment, guests need to stay on top of weather reports to ensure they know when and if Universal’s Volcano Bay will be open or closed, with the water park’s closure now being extended through Friday.

Universal announced earlier this week that Volcano Bay would be closing for several days starting December 1. The water park’s closure was intended to last through December 5, reopening on December 6. However, due to steady low temperatures in the Orlando area, Volcano Bay will remain closed through at least today, December 6.
It’s unclear if Volcano Bay will be able to reopen this weekend. Temperatures are supposed to pick up slightly going into next week, so it’s likely that guests wanting to throw on their swimsuits will have the time to do so later this December.
Volcano Bay joined the Universal Orlando Resort in 2017. Over the last seven years, Volcano Bay has become a staple of the resort, now known as one of the most popular water parks in the area, alongside Disney World’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.
Universal’s Volcano Bay will typically remain closed if temperatures fall below between 50-55 degrees, similar to how Walt Disney World’s water parks operate.
Even if Volcano Bay is open, some of the water parks’ featured attractions may not be open, so it’s always smart for guests to check before their next visit.
“Embrace your inner Waturi and brave a visit to Krakatau,” advertises Universal, challenging guests to take on the terrifyingly fun 200-foot volcano. “Thrill-seekers, brace yourself for gravity-defying plunges and the fastest water slides you’ve ever seen.”
