The menu items are amazing and the atmosphere is incredible. It would be so sad if this closed. Given the fact that other CityWalk restraunts have recently closed, I think it is simply about the high dollar amount that it costs to visit City Walk and to buy anything there. It has to rely on tourists because pricing is beyond what everyday Angelenos can afford to go there for shopping or meals. If Universal wants more success at City Walk, they need to change the high cost of parking (Valet is higher than any other venue, and they seriously restrict validation credit), and do more to attract residents for dining and shopping vs just directed at tourists (which is the group who are going to spend the high dollars on these things since they are vacationing and splurging). The food and experience at Toothsome is amazing! They need to do more to make it a dining destination for celebrations and special occasions, by advertising locally, bringing down the excessively high cost to park.
It does not help that they removed some of the best sellers ( such as the salted Carmel shake). A higher up did that and kept the ( key lime shake). Then the bigwig got transferred to California. We were there the year it opened and several times afterwards. The shakes are now using fake whipped cream the stuff doesn’t even melt. The shakes are not as good as they used to be.
I miss the Hard Rock. It’s food was great and I heard the new place was only good for desserts. I prefer a nice family restaurant with varying menu items that appeal to everyone. Also dissappointed to learn Tony Romas is gone!!!
I think city walk in general is super lame with their seating policy. If you come out of universal studios and you’re hungry, you’ll never get table. It’s always some crazy wait time. Then you’ll look over and see that literally every other table is empty.
Finally a bar tender told it’s a weird kitchen policy. I guess they don’t want to over whelm the kitchens.
OK well don’t let me overwhelm your kitchens! I’ll just take my business somewhere else.
I guarantee the tourists don’t want to wait 40 min to be seated either. Especially when the place is half empty.
Citywalk use to be fun with date night places. It use to have bowling, dance clubs, bars, comedy, magic. people come from all over the world to see what they see in the movies of Hollywood that is what you want on Citywalk. Steampunk was never a part of Universal. Where can you eat where it’s like a dinners how of Universal movies like Back to the Future or psycho or many others. That and GREAT food because Toothsomes has disappointing food.
In May of 2024, I had one of their expensive milkshakes. It was disappointing that the shake wasn’t thick. I believe too much milk was added. I wanted to eat it and struggle to drink it, not gulp it. It was pretty empty; not a lot of people visiting around lunchtime. I also bought a couple of chocolate bars, which were okay – nothing special. I think it would be better if everything felt special for the price being paid.
