Let’s make one thing clear. People were only/merely SHOCKED at the Ariel casting. The backlash was more about the “girl power” story and the nightmare known as Flounder. Baily brought people back to Little Mermaid with her interviews. No one was NOT willing to give that movie chance.

“Skin as white as snow” was never used when describing Ariel. WHO has that description though?…

Where Baily was EXCITED to play Ariel and be a part of L:ittle Mermaid, Zegler condemned BOTH the movie AND the character she portrays. With each interview, Zegler pushed people FURTHER AWAY from Snow Woke. Disney even tried canceling the dwarves, at one point (hence them not even getting any credit in the title).

Comparing Snow Woke with Little Mermaid is one thing. To suggest that because Little Mermaid wasn’t a total disaster — in spite of the initial backlash — isn’t the same as what’s going on with Snow Woke. Little Mermaid NEVER had a ratio of MORE THAN TWENTY TIMES the dislikes. Making it seem like a hit, just because Little Mermaid didn’t tank at the box office is highly misleading.

Will I be watching Snow Woke Brown next year? NO.
Disney and Iger can’t get it through their heads that we’re sick of woke, girlbosses and unnecessary remakes!

So woke folks confuse me sometimes. They often complain of cultural misappropriation, but in this case they neglect the theme of the original story. In the original Brothers Grimm fairy tale, the character “Snow White” is named so because her mother wished for a daughter with skin “as white as snow,” and upon giving birth to a baby with pale skin, she named her Snow White, directly referencing her appearance. I know there’s no such thing as Skin misappropriation, but it seems like some people want their cake and to eat it also. Personally, I don’t care who plays the role but I do find it concerning that Disney would bow to the pressure at the expense of the authenticity of the story]

Apparently you haven’t been following this story closely, because it’s been reported that Disney altered the backstory to have the name Snow White make sense in this version. It no longer refers to her skin color. Disney altered parts of the original Brothers Grimm story for their 1937 animated version also, so Disney’s first Snow White film wasn’t entirely “authentic” in that respect. They’re simply changing things up once again for this new version.

“Disney altered the backstory to have the name Snow White make sense in this version.”

Yes. And they decided Tarzan was named because, when he was a baby, he almost died in a TAR pit.

What’s with not giving names to babies until those babies almost die? And then naming their baby from what almost killed them?! Does any of this make sense?!? I heard that “If it doesn’t make sense, it’s usually not true.”

So, other than your Tarzan example, which other stories featured babies being named after something that almost killed them? Snow White wasn’t almost killed by a winter storm. LOL
