Love the theory and will now watch it again for the new perspective. One correction in the article…Moana does not see her parents after the storm except in a dream. She winds up on Maui’s island after the storm. So this theory is actually pretty strong.
And I was thinking if its true then they just kind of went with the same idea because they already had it in mind when they made the movie Coco. Which is a story of a boy who who died and had to find a way back to the real world.
So the theory is: When Moana got struck by the lightning, she dies, as she only meets magical entities, monsters, etc. Like Maui said, mortals can’t enter the realm of monsters, but she does anyway. And when she restores Te Fiti’s heart, Te Fiti restores her life as a symbol of gratitude. So this theory might be true.
