Following the launch of ESPN on Disney+ this Wednesday, ESPN+ content has been added to Disney’s streaming platform in a new update. Bundle subscribers can now enjoy numerous types of programming on one app, making Disney+ a powerful service for fans of classic Disney content and live sports coverage.

“This launch really puts a cherry on top of a fantastic year of innovation at Disney+,” said Alisa Bowen, President of Disney+. “Earlier in the year, we made Hulu available in the Disney+ app, and now we’re doing the same for ESPN+. This gives our bundle subscribers one place to consume everything they love from all our brands.”

The addition of ESPN+ sports content follows the integration of other apps and services into Disney+, such as Hulu and Star+.

Senior Vice President of ESPN+ John Lasker shared what subscribers can expect from the new update: “In the first 90 days, bundle subscribers should expect 5,000 live events, including NFL, NBA, NHL, College Basketball, and Australian Open. Also, new originals from 30 for 30 and ESPN Original Series.”

Disney+ launched in 2019, with The Walt Disney Company consistently updating and expanding the streaming service over the years. Subscribers can now access thousands of hours of content on Disney+, ranging from classic 2D Disney animated classics like Snow White (1937) to R-rated films like this year’s Alien: Romulus.

Disney+ is home to both movies and shows, featuring a wide selection of original content created specifically for the platform. Legendary shows like The Simpsons now call Disney+ home as well, though fans can still catch the iconic neon-yellow family on FOX. Star Wars and Marvel content is also found on the platform, with new releases like Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) being made available to watch shortly after hitting theaters.

The integration of ESPN+ adds more than 30,000 live sports events to Disney+ each year. This extends well beyond football, with WNBA, tennis, golf, MLB, and more events also being covered.

“One of the things I’m most excited about with this launch is that we’re also making the ESPN and Hulu tiles visible to all subscribers,” Bowen said. “That means our Disney+ standalone subscribers have a really easy way to discover everything we offer from these two incredible brands, and they will have the ability to upgrade their subscription for the full bundle experience.”

Those who are not subscribed to a Disney+ bundle can still enjoy select ESPN+ content, such as The Simpsons Funday Football and the Dunk The Halls NBA presentation.

This week’s integration of ESPN+ into Disney+ marks a partnership that will likely continue to change as the streaming landscape grows and evolves.
