The Lion King 1 1/2 is an abominable insult to The Lion King (1994), and it deserves to be erased. So many plot points in it dishonestly contradict the original story. That said: no one in the right mind will want a remake of a film that is so deservedly hated. And I have arguably more of a burning hate for the live-action remake from 2019, which is absolutely soulless and just as insulting as 1 1/2.
The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride was a film that I have a difficult past with, but at least it has a soul. But the two movies that came after it are complete wastes of life.
CGI was the worst thing to happen to The Lion King since the midquel that focuses on Timon and Pumbaa; and I’m enraged that it’s being used for Mufasa: The Lion King as well as the cast of the 2019 trash fire. If the 2024 movie was to deserve any love and attention, then it should have been 2D animated with as much of the original cast from the 1994 film back as possible, and properly supporting it.
The only Lion King films that are worthwhile are the 1994 film, the 2D animated sequel, and a 2D animated prequel about Mufasa’s rise from firstborn prince to the proud ruler of Pride Rock.
