My Father was actually the project manager for the complete overhaul of the monorail control system after the death that occurred in the early 2000’s. The FDOT would have little worries when they realized the in-depth overhaul of the safety measures put in place by my Father and his team for Disney.

    Republican government overreach!

    1. I agree, the State being on private property is like taking
      wealth from your Disney shares.

      1. FL-Dad

So you don’t want elevators on private property inspected?

      2. Allyria

        Agreed

    2. Seriously Tobi com-on man

    3. abell

Small government Republican Style. The greatest power of the most people in the hands of the fewest officials.

  3. Conde

Don’t four get that because Disaster’s obsession with being president your taxes dollars were spent in This ridiculous circus.

Disney had no probs with monorail. Florida had probs with building one across the state and south tamiami. The republicans axed this project and screwed your future. Now dsantis wants to steal the blueprint and save the day, low IQ and lacking ego. Time for a diet Ron. You need more brain food. You and don , buddies in your dreams will destroy the state and country. Can’t wait for the coup. State is not big enough for two morons to exist at same time. Maybe exile is the answer.not for the citizens but you two and your inbred trailer trash followers. Jones town in s. America would be a good start. When two idiots without creativity steal the show they can only copy someone who had the original idea. Sad but true. Your both a facade and a vanishing act. Take your police dictatorship act to another country or it’ll be another Libya for you two
    History does repeat.

Don the moron? But yet he had gotten more down since elected in November the the current administration as done in 4 years and he’s not even there yet. Plus if disney would have stayed out if the politics in Florida this wouldn’t be happening. Want to talk about overreach disney should look in the mirror. Yrs what DeSantis has done has been stupid in some cases but disney didn’t need to say anything.

What about freedom of speech? Oops, there it goes, right out the window. Thanks for caring about our freedoms.

      LOVED this post Ralph!

    3. Allyria

      Exactly!

  5. Mike

Well, what are the inspection results of the monorail systems at TPA,MIA & MCO?

    1. Diane Schlicht

I want to know that too!

      1. Jerry

Same. I use the TPA monorail monthly for work travel out of state. It’s old and has had its share of issues as of late.

    2. Brian

      Apparently, those don’t matter.

  6. George

Desatan is a moron. Threw a temper tantrum that backfired and cost the citizens.
Now that fdot is in charge they’ll actually be less safe and maintained.

I’m sure the Florida tax payers are happy now.

DeSantis constantly cuts off his nose to spite his face.

    1. Brian

No! I don’t think we are. Ronnie is always tooting his horn about having surplus tax revenue, yet we our roads suck, our education sucks, our homeowner’s insurance is 5X national average, and now this little pissing contest is going to cost us more. Happy is not the word I would use for the average Floridian. I’ve had enough of Bob Iger and Disney as well. They can all go piss up a rope.

  8. You had better get off the politics! Disney knows that BOTH parties spend money in the parks. Extra eyes on any transportation system is a GOOD thing! Bob Iger knows that stockholders are hanging on by a thread. Get on board or watch the parks close. The reality is if only one of the political parties are excepted in the parks they WILL flounder. This conversation is about more safety in the transportation systems in the state of Florida.

    1. Brian

Indeed the focus is transportation safety. But, if you truly believe that this is not politically motivated then you are sadly mistaken. In 50+ years of service the Disney Monorail has only had two safety issues (one fire, one driver error). Disney is well aware that ANY issues with the monorail will affect their income stream. The fact is that Disney’s monorail system has the most successful and safest in the history of any transportation system in the state of Florida, bar none. There is no need for a third party inspection other than to exert dominance, a political move.

The political party doesn’t matter. As long as everyone is truly honest about the safety and well being of WDW guests and Cast Members and doesn’t keep screwing them over because of money and politics then I’m ok. But, if it ends up that the “Republican Party” doesn’t do what they promised to do (which is to maintain the monorail running smoothly and not to screw over WDW, the guests, and the Cast Members) and they actually end up causing more problems then get rid of them. The reason that Disney spoke out when DeSantis passed that “Don’t Say Gay” bill is because of internal pressure from the employees that are part of the LGBQ+ community. &, Disney (just like other companies) is trying to show that they would respect their cast members and not let a new law impact their cast members in such a negative way. If that law didn’t pass then I’m pretty sure that Disney would have kept out of politics. Someone wrote that Disney does give money to each political party. As far as I know that’s true. Both parties have received money from Disney just like Disney has gotten some (not a lot) of support from politicians from both parties. Let’s just hope that the over site comity keeps Disney honest about maintaining the rides/attractions/monorail working correctly and that there are no more breakdowns, injuries, or deaths reported.

  10. They need to fix Florida’s transportation and use the damn monorail like Disney had in planned.. just thinking that thing was not only catering to Disney but also public transportation. It would be a lot better place to live with less pollution and less accidents on the road. That’s the problem for years since the beginning when Disney was brand new that was the idea. But people are so bent on their gas powered and other forms of transportation. And being so thick. Use the monorail like they’re doing the bright line in Florida. And watch what happens a lot of good things happen. People can go to Disney people can go to the airport people can travel. Other countries around the world use it. But this was an American invention.

So, if I understand this correctly, we (the tax payers of Florida) are now footing the bill for inspecting and maintaining a “private” localized transit system. Ron couldn’t find a better use of tax dollars, like say, reducing the cost of homeowner’s insurance or building more affordable housing? All of this because somebody got their feelings hurt? Grow up people. There are real problems out here. The general public doesn’t have time for a pissing contest between Bob Iger and Ron DeSantis!

    1. Hoffman

Taxpayers foot lots of bills. What’s unclear from the article is whether there is a permit cost to Disney for the inspections. Florida inspects Disney’s elevators too.
Incidentally, in Disneyland I notice signs on pretty much every ride that reads “inspection documents for this attraction are available _here_”. I can’t recall whether the same signs are posted in Florida DW.

We’re they able to ascertain where that lovely monorail-barnyard smell comes from?
