Maybe you’d be happy if they depicted the current atmosphere and your woke philosophy.
All the kids could be sitting in their room on their phones, your wokeness will have all the girls chasing girls and boys chasing boys and the BLM will be given “get out of jail free” cards.
Happy now?
Maybe you’d be happy if they depicted pirate behavior with 100% historical accuracy, so you and your kids or grandkids can witness animatronic recreations of murder and rape – characters’ throats being slit and half-naked, battered women, with their dresses torn and visible bruises on their upper thighs. This “maybe” game of yours is fun. Wanna play some more?
For pity’s sake, it is an animatronic derivative of an animated movie, not a historical museum. You and your fellow wokesters have ruined the Walt Disney Company. It is as if people like you are hell-bent on stripping the fun out of as many aspects of life in America as possible
You’re correct. It was live action, not animated. The film that was the inspiration was the Disney-produced 1950 film “Treasure Island”. You certainly know how to dodge the real issue.
I haven’t dodged anything. I’ve merely had fun calling you out on your mistake, which you typed with such conviction and superiority like you were actually attempting to teach us something. Now you’ve succeeded in getting it wrong twice, since Treasure Island was not the inspiration for the ride either. Like Haunted Mansion, it was not inspired by any preexisting IP. If you’re gonna act superior with your opinion on wokeness, at least get your facts straight.
You are misinformed. According to the website CBR, “ For fans who have braved the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at one of the many Disney parks, they may have noticed links to Treasure Island. Admittedly, the inspiration is quite subtle, but it’s clear that the engineers were keen to add a touch of the film to their intuitive ride. Plus, there were plans to build a life-size Hispaniola in the parks in Orlando, but they were eventually scrapped. Therefore, although Pirates of the Caribbean quickly became a franchise in its own right, it is evident that Disney used its predecessor as a foundation for its success.”
Now go take your meds
Thanks for the “copy and paste” from CBR, which offered no proof of direct influence – only subtle inspiration – but if you wanna believe that makes me misinformed, go right ahead. Since you initially thought it was based on a cartoon until I corrected you, maybe I should loan you some my meds. LOL
They should read Walt’s opening day speech for Disneyland. Walt always wanted to show the harsh realities that made this country, although, he also wanted it more family friendly and I think he hit on the perfect compromise UNTIL wokeness crept in. It was a huge mistake to make those changes to Pirates. They should have just left it the way Walt made it!
Let’s think a moment about your statement. “Walt always wanted to show the harsh realities that made this country.” The ride is called Pirates of the Caribbean. The Caribbean is not part of this country.
I guess changing history to suit your needs because there is something you did not like is the basis for all of these Woke Snowflake Remakes that need to stop already. Get a grip people, some parts of history were messy, that does not mean it needs to be changed to make it look how the woke minority think pirates (or whatever the target of the week is) should act in 2024.
“Changing history to suit your needs” is an apt description of what Disney did when they first created and opened Pirates of the Caribbean in 1967. They left out a whole lot of messy history. Using your logic, I guess that can mean only one thing: Walt was woke.
The only dark and disgusting thing going on here are columnists like you who’d rather see any attraction that doesn’t suit your fragile sensibilities be demolished to the ground. Walt Disney’s PotC is a light hearted tale of singing pirates. None of it is supposed to be taken seriously. It’s a theme park! Lighten up!
With all the changes and updates Disney made to this attraction, I have great news for you: It’s still a lighthearted tale of singing pirates, and it’s still not meant to be taken seriously. This should make you quite pleased.
You People must be bored in your lives to sit here and write these ridiculous comments. There Is nothing wrong with the ride. It’s humorous and delightful. It was the way the world was then. Everyone is so busy having statues removed all over the county. When you do that your removing history. Factual history. Next thing we’re going to see is there was no slavery, or we didn’t take the land from the Indians.
So “the way the world was then” was “humorous and delightful”? Those were your words. I suppose you’d find it humorous and delightful to experience pirates in real life then, since the ride shows “the way the world was then” according to you.
You and others miss the point. We are not living in the age of these pirates, and the goal is ENTERTAINMENT, not a historical treatise on violence in the western hemisphere. If you don’t like it, don’t go there. That’s how I have handled their wokeness.
Great point! However, people like Polly who sit in the basement wearing the moomoo covered in holes and fried chicken grease that yell at the world through the keyboard are incapable of logic and reason.
Thanks for showing everyone my ability to push your buttons, Tim darling. Please keep coming back and typing random insults to complete strangers on a comment thread, because it amuses me and clearly makes YOU feel better. You need this in your life, so don’t deprive yourself. Fire away, sweetie.
Speaking of missing the point…since the goal is entertainment, you’ll be happy to know that the updates they’ve done haven’t made the ride less entertaining. I’m doing you the favor of informing you, since you just admitted to not going there and experiencing it for yourself. Isn’t that great news? You’re welcome.
Says the person who has commented 5 times already here, not to mention countless times on other bad articles on this site. And no there are no buttons pushed (except maybe yours) just enjoying out witting dullards like you who appear to have nothing else going on in their lives which is kinda sad. Me I just do this for entertainment when nature calls, honey. haha
Haha you think anyone cares what you think, you’re a nut, you live in a fantasy world on the internet to try and be relevant. Sort of feel sorry for you.
I agree that some scenes were a bit much. But, this is a ride. It’s fake. It’s made to be a light hearted version of some sort of reality. It (in some ways) got me interested in researching how pirates really were. Pretty disturbing people. I also agree that changing the rides so often gets rid of the rides uniqueness and it also stops kids from seeing something that happened around the world in reality in the past. I wasn’t bothered as a kid seeing the scene of the pirates selling the local woman. My parents would explain to me that these are fake people and that the reality was more gruesome. So, I had a basic idea of what a pirate really was. I was just amazed as a kid to see how creative the Disney Imaginers are/were/can be. Again, I’m not for human trafficking (which still goes on now and days) but, one of the ways a kid learns about reality to showing them movies, t.v series, plays, historical landmarks, etc. If we keep changing things (whether it’s a rid or now) kids will never learn the truth and history can repeat itself.
O no! You probably won’t ride it again?! This is terrible news, how ever will go be able to go on?? Buddy, if you are that triggered by a kids ride you might want to relook your life.
So tired of people finding wrong in everything. The Pirates of the Caribbean is a Awesome Ride!! It is a part of history like it or not. Why lie about it, makes no sense. I have 2 girls who LOVE that ride even when it was still the Auction for a wife. And they are strong responsible girls but know the differece between then and now. Its a bit of a history lesson. And i see no reason to change it. It was a Fantastic Ride!! I guess you believe in participating trophies and everyone gets a prize too. Just enjoy life, instead of being a busy bodies and writing crap about beloved rides and movies.
The depiction of rape and kidnapping is deplorable. I cannot believe they also demonstrate and promote thievery, war, and other unlawful behavior. They need to shut down the ride completely, issue an apology, and pay reparations of a lifetime pass to all Disney properties for those that identify as pirates as well as the ancestors of pirates. Disney is trash and a bunch of losers. They should bring joy and unite people instead of dividing people and spreading hate in 2024. I will start a petition and GoFundMe to have the ride converted to an Acolyte ride.
No. Nothing was wrong with the pirates auctioning off brides and the scene will be restored in time for Pirates 75th if not sooner. You’re never getting any second season of The Acolyte and when I take over Disney not only will I have the pirates chase the women again, but the woman in the barrel hiding from the “pooped pirate” will come back and I will make her a caricature of Kathleen Kennedy to punish her for what she did to Star Wars. Like she’d take action?
Auctioning off wives is akin to slavery and if you think that’s ok, we all can clearly see that you’d have a whip in your hands 400 years ago. How dare you talk that way about Kathleen Kennedy! She has made Star Wars diverse and inclusive. The Force is Female!
Ok sparky, you had me at the whole slavery is bad thing, no doubt about it…but man, unless you’re being sarcastic (which I hope you are), if you truly believe that about that woman, then you are clearly part of the problem.
If all the people who moan about rides being offensive just stayed away there would be no problems with the rides ,just shorter waits for those of us who don’t take live so seriously, for heavens sake lighten up already

I rode it a few months ago for the first time in many years. It’s ruined! Was always one of my favorites, I probably won’t ride it again now.
