Jenna Fischer, star of The Office, reveals she was diagnosed with breast cancer in a new update. Fischer, 50, announced earlier this week that she was confirmed to have had Stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer in December but is now cancer-free thanks to successful treatment.

“I am now cancer free,’’ Ms. Fischer, 50, of Los Angeles, said in her announcement on Instagram. “If I had waited six months longer, things could have been much worse,” Ms. Fischer said. “It could have spread.”

She said that she had surgery in January to remove the tumor that doctors had found. That was followed by “12 rounds of weekly chemotherapy” and “three weeks of radiation,” her post said.

Few shows have managed to carve out their own spot in pop culture quite like The OfficeWhat started as an American take on the cult-classic British sitcom of the same name quickly turned into a cornerstone of entertainment, with the show’s wide range of characters becoming icons.

The Office was held together by its excellent ensemble cast, which was comprised of Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Ed Helms, Ellie Kemper, and Rashida Jones, though a lot of the attention was placed on the show’s long-running relationship between Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer).

Fans could watch as the will-they-won’t-they antics continued for several seasons until Pam and Jim officially got together, with the pair becoming an emotional and comedic anchor for the show.

“I’m happy to say I’m feeling great,” said Ms. Fischer, who, aside from acting, is also an author and co-hosts a popular podcast based on The Office with series co-star Angela Kinsey, who played Angela.

“‘Take care of your ticking time bags,’” said Fischer, referencing a quote from the show where her boss, Michael Scott (Carell), informs the women of the office to get checked for breast cancer.

As The New York Times reports, a triple positive cancer diagnosis means that the tumor cells have “estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, as well as a larger than normal amount of HER2 receptors on their surface.”

Fischer’s cancer diagnosis was an “aggressive subtype of breast cancer,” but her treatment was such a success due to the early detection.
