A Disney-themed Shinkansen bullet train has begun operation for a limited time, marking a collaboration between JR East and Oriental Land, the operator of Tokyo Disney Resort. The “Magical Journey Shinkansen” draws inspiration from Fantasy Springs, the newly opened area at Tokyo DisneySea that expands on Disney’s imaginative worlds.

This marks the first time an E5 series shinkansen has been entirely wrapped in a themed design, offering passengers an immersive Disney experience on their journey.

A New Kind of Disney Trip

The exterior of the train is adorned with vibrant scenes and beloved characters from Disney films such as Frozen, Tangled, and Peter Pan. Inside, passengers will enjoy themed melodies, curtains inspired by Disney artwork, and a whimsical ambiance that brings the magic of Fantasy Springs to life.

The train’s first departure was celebrated with a ceremony at JR Sendai Station in northeastern Japan. It will operate three times daily along the Tohoku-Hokkaido Shinkansen line, connecting Tokyo and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto, until early June 2025. This collaboration is once again a huge perk for Japanese Disney fans, who have been treated to several massive releases this year.

Another Offering for Tokyo Disney Fans

Tokyo Disney Resort is a world-renowned theme park destination located just outside Tokyo. It encompasses Tokyo Disneyland, which opened in 1983, and Tokyo DisneySea, an ocean-themed park known for its stunning architecture and attractions inspired by myths, legends, and exploration.

Managed by Oriental Land under license from Disney, the resort is celebrated for its meticulously designed lands, immersive entertainment, and a uniquely Japanese flair.

The latest addition to Tokyo Disney Resort is Fantasy Springs, a new section within Tokyo DisneySea, offering attractions and experiences based on Disney’s magical films. Opened in June 2023, Fantasy Springs enhances the resort’s reputation as a leader in themed entertainment by providing new ways for guests to immerse themselves in beloved Disney stories.

The collaboration with JR East brings that enchantment beyond the park, allowing guests to begin their Disney journey the moment they board the “Magical Journey Shinkansen.”
