In 1990, prolific author Neil Gaiman and cowriter Terry Pratchett published a comedy about the birth of the son of Satan and the arrival of the End Times. The book was called Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, and it was an absolute hit. The book was so beloved and remained popular among fans for years. It was such a hit that, in 2017, Amazon announced that it was adapting the novel into a series for Prime Video.

Good Omens, starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant, premiered on Amazon Prime in May 2019 and audiences loved it, but a second season was not announced until 2021. Then, in 2023, Amazon confirmed that a third and final season was in the works.

However, that final season is now hanging by a thread after some serious allegations were made against Neil Gaiman.

In July, Tortoise Media released a new podcast in which multiple women accused Neil Gaiman of rape and sexual abuse. One woman, referred to as K, said that Gaiman sexually assaulted her in 2003 when she was just 18 years old. She said that the two did not start dating until she was 20 and Gaiman was 40. During their relationship, K claimed that Gaiman forced her to endure painful sex.

Another woman, identified as Scarlett, said that Gaiman raped her in 2022, just after she was hired as a nanny for his children. She accused Gaiman of forcing her to engage in “rough and degrading penetrative sexual acts.”

In total, five women accused Gaiman of rape over the course of about two decades. Gaiman has denied all the claims made against him.

Due to the serious nature of the allegations levied against Gaiman, Amazon has decided to put the final season of Good Omens on indefinite pause. Deadline was the first to report the news, saying that there have been “discussions about possible production changes.” We do not know what those possible changes are. An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment.

Disney Pauses Gaiman Production

Amazon is not the only studio pausing production on a Neil Gaiman production. Amazon’s announcement came just days after Disney announced it was also halting production on its adaptation of Gaiman’s novel The Graveyard Book. According to sources who spoke to IndieWire, the disturbing claims made against Gaiman were only part of the reason the show is not moving forward at this time.

Marc Forster was attached to direct Disney’s adaptation of The Graveyard Book. Forster and his partner, Renée Wolfe, were set to produce the movie. David Magee is signed on to write the screenplay.

Should Amazon dump Neil Gaiman and finish Good Omens without him? Should Disney do the same with The Graveyard Book? Let us know in the comments.
