Directed by Shawn Levy, who also directed Deadpool 2 (2018), this new installment in the Deadpool franchise will be incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following The Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, now known as 20th Century Studios.

Ryan Reynolds, famous for his role as Deadpool/Wade Wilson (the self-proclaimed “Marvel Jesus”), teamed up with “frenemy” Hugh Jackman, renowned for his portrayal of Wolverine/Logan in the Fox X-Men Universe, to announce that the Deadpool franchise would finally continue — seamlessly transitioning into Disney’s MCU under the leadership of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

Moving from the self-contained Fox X-Men Universe to the much larger MCU, which is currently in its Multiverse Saga phase, requires Marvel to integrate the mutant-heavy X-Men universe into the storyline of the third Deadpool movie. This soft reboot of the X-Men franchise will certainly turn heads on July 26 when it debuts in theaters.

Now, it appears that Disney’s most significant rivals could be turning into their biggest crutch.

Sony and Fox Will Take over Marvel

According to Hollywood and Marvel insider Daniel Richtman, it appears that the 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios under Disney) icon of Wolverine played by Hugh Jackman is sticking around in the MCU — beyond the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film. This news has massive implications for the future of the MCU, and is very telling about The Walt Disney Company’s plan for the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars:

It looks like Hugh Jackman is sticking around for a bit more

What this indicates is that Disney’s puzzle pieces for Secret Wars, meant to be the Avengers: Endgame (2019) of the Multiverse Saga, will likely bring together this iconic trifecta of heroes of Marvel universe(s) past — Sony Pictures’ Tobey Maguire (Peter Parker/Spider-Man) from the 2000s-era Sam Raimi trilogy of Spider-Man films and (technically) the Sony Spider-Man Universe, Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now Jackman of the Fox X-Men Universe.

This report from Richtman, when looked at alongside previous rumors regarding Kevin Feige’s Avengers 5 (formerly Avengers: The Kang Dynasty) and Avengers 6 AKA Avengers: Secret Wars might mean that Disney plans for Maguire, RDJ, and Jackman to team up and lead the Avengers across the Multiverse, and save everyone from certain doom.

It would certainly print money for Disney and Sony if it were to happen.

Do you think Disney will bring Maguire, Downey Jr., and Jackman together in the upcoming Avengers film? Is this a good idea? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!

More on Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool 3, AKA Deadpool & Wolverine is set to introduce several notable X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

This exciting lineup might include Halle Berry reprising her role as Ororo Munroe, also known as Storm; Famke Janssen returning as Dr. Jean Grey; James Marsden as Scott Summers, or Cyclops; and the beloved Patrick Stewart coming back as the iconic Professor Charles Xavier, or Professor X, alongside Ian McKellen reprising his role as Erik Lehnsherr, known as Magneto.

Emma Corrin will play Cassandra Nova, Professor X/Charles Xavier’s “evil twin” from the Marvel Comics.
