Just moved to Florida last week! Love the weather and lifestyle.

    1. I live here for 23 years now and would love to move. I can’t stand Desantis but I can’t afford to move

      1. Lee Olitzky

You are so correct. The gov needs to go and take Trump with him. Someplace cold and dark. I have lived here over 50 years now. Don’t come here.We cannot afford you, you cannot afford to live here.Breaking even is not the answer.

    2. Johnno

Do you prefer the 95 degree temps with high humidity or the lifestyle that allows you to shoot at fellow motorists when they irk you? Or is it the out of control homeowners insurance costs?

My husband and I just bought my father’s home in Silver Springs Florida. We are in a rural area. It takes 20 to 30 minutes to get to where the stores are. Our home is on an acre of land. We own the land and the buildings on it. A lot of homes in Florida are subject to HOA rules and costs, we are not. We have a lot of wildlife too. Have a family of bears in the woods behind us. We have eagles, cranes, deer, snakes etc. We love it here. One thing I really dislike are the tiny, biting 🪰. I have O positive blood, the bugs love to chew me up. Other then that, Florida is a great place to call home!

I agree that Desantis is ruining Fla

What is the author’s cred? Many questionable statements. For example, the Southwest, in Charlotte county, 120 miles south of Tampa, where I live, there are thousands of quarter & half acre homesites to purchase for under 40 thousand dollars. New homes are going up on lierally every block. Florida may be crowded on the Atlantic Coast, but the Gulf coast is nicer, cheaper cost of living and has plenty of room for a few million more residents.

“People move to Florida because of Ron DeFascist’s politics”

    The RNC can all SMD.

My family is considering a move to Florida. Tired of paying high costs for nothing here in the state of Maine.

    1. richard

I am a Mainer living in FL. After 20 years here would gladly move back.

    2. Johnno

Wait til you see the cost of homeowners insurance in FLA! And I hope you are ready for the summer heat and humidity! Maine gives you a lot more for your money.

It is possible to see vacant tracts of land for sale in Florida depending on where you look. I have resided in Orlando, Florida since 2001 (the end of the last large migration to the state), and the influx of population has had a great effect on the quality of life in the state. Wildlife continues to recede, Vacation areas and attractions continue to be overcrowded, affordable housing, education and crime continue to be grave issues in metropolitan areas. Transportation has only recently been addressed. Many areas are becoming the property of out-of-state/out-of-country landlords. The focus (including the current governor’s office) is focused keenly on how to make the state profitable for the wealthiest and how to spend the least on social programs and ‘silly things’ like education, housing, job programs and infrastructure for the masses.
Population needs to be studied, monitored and managed rather than become a money grabbing operation.

Unfortunately Florida is not the Florida we used to have. Builders are taking every single piece of land and tearing down where our wildlife was. These poor animals have nowhere to go! Stop the building!!!

    1. Shaggygorilla

      I agree 100%

    2. Diane

Agree 100%! We used to see a lot of deer in our backyard, bucks too, now we barely see one. Maybe one or two a year. I miss them. The preserve is behind us. Bellalago is forever building. Pushing them away. Sometimes we see one dead on the main road. Nowhere to go. So many turtles get run over. It’s heartbreaking. They need to stop building. All the trees are gone!! They turned Osceola County into a desert. No shade. It appears every square inch of empty space are filled with town homes. So many trees that didn’t need to be removed were. 😭

Ron Desantis is gonna be the death of Florida

    1. richard

      Amen to that

  9. Oh really

Where are these capacity limits in states overrun by illegals?

    1. WDW Member

FL (and other states) don’t actually have capacity limits. And no state is overrun

Living here is a struggle unless you earn $75,000 or more a year!
Don’t move here from another state! Look for the good in YOUR own state or move to a nearby state. Florida is full and you won’t find life here all that great! Everything is expensive and it’s been 95 degrees every day since May! Can you afford a $300 electric bill every month? That’s about what you need to cool your home. We have given up eating out so we can pay the utility bill. : (

    1. Mark

Keep your AC set at 77 degrees and ceiling fans on. Our electric bill is only $200 a month.

    2. richard

$300 thats cheap mine was $450 before I got solar

  11. Shaggygorilla

    I agree 100%

Anyone considering a Florida move should seriously re think. Climate in becoming unbearable six months of the year and costs for everything have skyrocketed. Was a good deal when we moved here eight years ago, no so now.

I’ve lived in FL for almost 11 years. Nearly everyone I know is from somewhere else. They all say they came for the weather or a job. The influx picked up during covid when people started working remotely. I’ve never met anyone that says they came here for the politics.

    1. richard

Maybe leave here because of politics………

  15. Cat

Curious where the stats came from relative to housing costs, and cost of living vs. national average.

    1. Johnno

Thats all readily available information. Do you think it is wrong?

I had to move out of my beloved Florida as I couldn’t afford to live there being single and disabled. The homes for low income were being listed at $300,000.00 . Please tell me how you can afford a 300,000 dollar home living on disability. This is a joke. First I wouldn’t qualify. 2nd I wouldn’t be able to get home owners insurance.. I love Florida and the weather there is best for my medical condition. But just way too expensive. I looked at houses that should have been condemned that they were asking outrageous prices for. Very sad regular
People are being pushed out so the Uber rich can take over.

  17. Jo Ann

We moved away from Florida due to many people there and everything kept going up. We are happy we’re we are now.

  18. Lee Olitzky

Don’t move to Florida looking for advancement on a job, it’s not going to happen. Nor will salaries go up.The governor has ruined the state and salaries. Don’t come here for a job, you need 3 to make it, 4 if you have a spouse. This is not the place for kids or retirement. Please rethink all this before you move, if you do move I will sing I told you not to.

  19. Mary

From what i heard, it is the total opposite. People are trying to get out of there. At one time, we considered moving there but after we retired, we heard and read and saw too much to even consider it. People are coming back up North about half way or the entire way. We don’t have to worry about going out in the weather if we don’t want to. We get maybe 5 to 6 days of winter weather a year now, why move??

  20. Brad

I moved to Florida 34 years ago. Like any place you live it has its good points and bad. I’ve been retired for 8 years now. I live in the Tampa Bay area and this whole area has grown a LOT since then. I personally don’t mind the growth because that means life and progress vs. dying communities with boarded up businesses.. That being said, I have never looked back!
