When Disney California Adventure Park opened at the Disneyland Resort in 2001, it showcased some of California’s highlights. Guests could walk down Sunset Boulevard, ride the Red Car Trolley, enjoy the incredible sight of Grizzly Peak, and fly over the entire state on the popular ride Soarin’ Over California.
Towards the back of the new theme park was an area called Paradise Pier. This area resembled a seaside amusement park, like the Santa Monica Pier, complete with a Ferris Wheel and a roller coaster.

In 2018, Disney announced that Paradise Pier would be getting a Pixar-themed makeover and would reopen as Pixar Pier. Ariel’s Grotto and the Cove Bar were rethemed into Lamplight Lounge. Disney Imagineers also added the new attraction, Jesse’s Critter Carousel, and the new snack spots, Señor Buzz Churros, Angry Dogs, and Poultry Palace.
Of course, the beloved roller coaster could not be left behind. The launch roller coaster originally opened as California Screamin’ but received an Incredibles (2004) makeover and reopened as the Incredicoaster.

On June 30, guests riding the Incredicoaster found themselves in a position they never wanted to be in. The ride suddenly broke down, leaving them to sit in the hot sun as temperatures climbed into the high eighties.
According to The Orange County Register, guests were stuck for more than an hour. Cast members moved quickly, handing out umbrellas to provide some sun protection. Eventually, they had to be evacuated and climb down from high above the theme park.
Disneyland handed out umbrellas to riders stuck on the Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure for more than an hour amid a scorching heat wave while rescue crews freed 20 people stranded on the 120-foot-tall roller coaster.
Disneyland employees in safety harnesses evacuated Incredicoaster riders and escorted them to safety after the ride broke down on the track just after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, according to freelance media firm OC Hawk.

The ride was temporarily closed, but is now back up and running.
According to guests who spoke to local news station KNBC, the attraction also broke down the day before.
Vince Crandon, who was staying at a hotel across from the theme park, said he and his family watched as the Incredicoaster stalled the day before on Saturday.
“I thought maybe the ride was closed,” said Crandon. “I was really concerned for the heat and obviously for the people… it was not moving and was on top of the apex.”
Disney has not commented on why the attraction malfunctioned or whether they will close Incredicoaster to inspect it. However, the ride was closed for nearly a week in March for its seasonal refurbishment.
The most recent breakdown was sure to frustrate summer guests, who are already dealing with cuts made to the park during one of the busiest times of the year. Several shows, including training from the Dora Milaje in Avengers Campus, have cut the number of performances by more than 20%.
