“And while I think the show has a solid aesthetic, no, it does not look like a $180 million production, and you have to wonder where much of that money went.”
Reshoots, which have gone from common to recurring to effectively mandatory with Disney and not the industry standard re-shoots either but lengthy and costly ones all thanks to their full embracement of DEI hiring practices. When you build a house and half the people you hire aren’t really qualified to do teh job but have to be there to satisfy DEI requirements you can expect numerous costly return visits to fix things as they fall apart.
When you hire Show Runners because of their sex, gender, sexual identity or any of the numerous immutable physical traits that DEI pushes you’re going to end up with a half arse done product that requires updates and more updates and when you put more diversity hires in charge of teh re-shoots you’re just ensuring more re-shoots. Since no one including the woke Leftists who believe everything should be provided to them by the government for free, will themselves work for free, eventually Disney is going to run out money and the current tactic of passing those losses onto park visitors is also about to blow up in Bob Igers face.
I too agree with scorpy1. Using DEI as fault, if there is any, is the same cop out for what is happening in society. A denial that the world is diverse I liked the Acolyte and hope it is renewed.
You and scorpy are close but still thr use of dei is a problem just like that pathetic performance by the so called stars of this poor atemp at starwars.
I completely agree the Acolyte was fantastic star wars and a really great start into diving into the sith lore instead of the jedi lore … great show period and can’t wait for season 2
This show was a disappointment. The “side” characters were much more interesting than the main characters. Amanda Stenberg was terrible as these two. Her acting was soooo bad. Did not want to root for them at all. Then the Jedi master hiding it all and pinning it on another jedi was terrible cheap lazy writing. The finale was the worst scattered episode of all.
My kids and I (white, middle-class males) have largely enjoyed this so far. Some of the pacing has been a bit odd (e.g. two whole flashback episodes rather than flitting back and forth in the same episode like with Andor). Only aesthetic my 13-year-old commented on is the look of the lightsabers. But it got them talking about SW lore — and they said the fights themselves were really well done.
While the script should have been so much better. Other than Mundi popping up, cannon was kept correct. Getting to see a saber be bled on screen was wicked cool. And it had some standard setting Jedi force tricks thrown in. It’s Star Wars yall. Quit the hate.
Outside of Andor, this is the best Star Wars content since the prequels. But I guess it was too “sexually explicit” for people?? These complaints are hilarious. Hope it gets another season.
I loved the show. It was a stand alone piece for Star Wars newbies who don’t know the whole history of every single Star Wars series or films that came before. The mysterious twins who represented the blurring of good and evil was skillfully portrayed. The elements of magic blended with the realism of the Jedi light saber scenes was spellbinding. Yes this was different than all other Lucas productions. Different and refreshing. I loved the dynamic the best and worst of human agendas portrayed by the stars of the Acolyte.

The whole point of the show is that dark side users are shown from their perspective. It was announced and advertised that way from the begining. Also, there is a huge SW fan base who are interested in the dark side lore and wanted to see more of it.
I liked the show for the most part even though I always rooted for the Jedi in previous SW media and I found the Acolyte twists and turns somewhat predictable.
I’d like to see S2 of the show, it has potential but also it could be a massive faliure.
I liked it. Like many spin-offs, all you have to do is put it in perspective.
Also, like most online reviewers, the guy doesn’t have a clue about good programming.
“sexual content”? I must have missed it.
Disney needs to produce more “historic” Star Wars programming.
Series that fill in the gaps between movies, highlight characters and groups of characters, and add prequel/sequel content is very good for the franchise.
It’s just a tv show I honestly don’t understand why all the Star Wars addicts think everything has to be lore. I hate to break the news to you guys but none of it is true or real so get over it. I watched it and it was slightly entertaining. I’d probably watch season 2 if it came it out. Of course I am realistic enough to know that it’s all fiction.
In response to Dave , yes it is just a show, set in a era of science and a little magic, which is why the lore is important to some. Who do you think kept Star Wars relevant all these years when there were no movies?Who do you think kept this brand relevant(welp until Disney continually dropped the ball) concerning the money making side of things? People with the same mindset as you? I hate to say this to all you defenders and such but money talks, everything else walks….As for liking the show, you have the absolute right to do that, but others have the right to hate it.
And it seems there are more them than you. Because if i’m incorrect , then the 2nd season would have already been announced. Sorry folks, your fanbase is not enough to prevail.
Please, bring this back for season 2! I thought I was great! Yrs, there are some things to clean up but, that’s OK. It happens in every production. This was a great story of the early evolution of the dark side and the beginning of the end of the republic. Keep it!
The show was okayish but a disappointment when considering the pre-release spiel of it being more gritty, focussing on the dark side and the Sith with the Jedi not being virtuous knights in shining armour. That had my hopes up that it was going to be along the lines of the novel Darth Plageius and the 2nd & 3rd Darth Bane books where the Jedi were oblivious to their ancient enemy amassing power and influence. Did we get that absolutely not. The only thing going for it was the fight choreography, the lightsaber accidentally being bled, Sol, the Stranger and the few second glimpse of Darth Plageius. For the amount spent they could have done a much better job of Osha/Mae’s hairdo instead of doing it like a mop was stuck on Amanda’s head. If it does get another season then stick to what it was supposed to be
I am a Star Wars junkie, and although the show was not great, I was good enough for me, and I am looking forward to the next season. Those of you who didn’t like it, then stop watching and move on to something you enjoy
As a black female star wars fan I think the acolyte was atrocious and should be forgotten and not continued. The story was weak at best and the acting was horrendous
I mean the reviewer must be on magic mushrooms. Although it’s probably not worth the budget I found it to a a solid show. Not sure where the sexual parts were I think the reviewer is some sad loser knocking one off to cosplay Wookies. Yes it’s controversial but star wars has to adapt and add new stories and get away from just Skywalker. I enjoyed it maybe it’s not Mando or the best so far Andor but we are getting different takes on a universe we love. I embrace them all and look forward to what’s next. Too many negative people in the world. So stop smoking whatever it is you smoke smell the roses and wake up and give different takes on this universe a chance.

It wasn’t a political problem, you useless hack.
It was poor writing and poor acting,
I won’t obliviate on and on about your laziness, though,

So DEI is the culprit. Climb back under your rock.

180 Million dollar budget has gone to waste. best that this show is cancelled.

I’m really enjoying the episodes!
I’d like it to continue!

The Jedi order was flawed with hubris and being primarily soldiers/not peace-makers in the prequel movies……but were they always flawed?
Why all the heavy analysis of fantasy/super heroes? (like The Boys, Watchmen, etc)
Let’s have some classic tales of good guys…..being good!

A story about Darth Plaigueis and his Master with a young Palpatine wouldve been epic. This was… meh.
