This place has been closed for years. Anyone who lives in the new Orleans area knows this. The place has been used in movies since it closed. It’ll closed in 2006. It was damaged by hurricane Katrina. Stop acting like it is breaking news

I’m not excited nor do I support the demolition of six flags new Orleans!! I have yet to explore the property!! I gotta make a trip and fast!!

    1. Arosary

I am. There was never a chance that it would reopen as a part. Nobody I know went there. I had no desire to go there.

You can’t get on the property. As I stated, it has been used for movies. I know the second Percy Jackson was filmed (some parts). I was told some horror movies were filmed.

There will be a sport complex, etc. put there. A lot of people wanted a community garden but that didn’t happen. I don’t know if anyone will go to it when it is a sports complex. We’ll see.

Progression, anything is better than the now – conditions

Property was sold and it has been cleared out for months this article is way to late…

Six Flags NOLA, nee ‘Jazzland’ was doomed from the outset due to its location. It was too far off the beaten path.

  4. Arosary

    You are correct.

  5. Dr.Rob

The park has been closed since 2006. Now it is used as a movie set. Six Flags has zero plans to ever reopen the park.

  6. Sam

I never went to the park. Always sad to see a place, where once many persons enjoyed happy times, disappear. I truly hope there is at least one ride, maybe the Carousel, can be salvaged and restored as a memory for the good times that many shared here.

Once again someone is blowing smoke up the public’s butt, nothing the city of New Orleans does will be financially successful. Too many fingers in the pot,a general population that has no respect other people’s property and an extremely high crime problem will cause this to fail. You want proof of how I know? The 1984 World’s Fair. It’s a proven fact that not only was it a complete failure, but it was also the most expensive failure. I used to be proud to say I was from NOLA, but I have been ashamed to say that for over 40 years!

    1. Joe

So why even say you’re from NOLA. Pick a city anywhere on the map, no one would know.
1st world problems. OMG I’m ashamed… ohh the horror!

  8. JoeNYWF64

One would think & hope that New Orleans is still collecting prop taxes from 6 flags on this property.

    1. juji

No after Katrina they screwed new orleans they didnt pay shit b4 the property was sold

  9. Sam

Love, Jazzland and Six Flags. My daughter and I had season passes. Breaks my heart to see a place we loved going to in ruins. I hope the new sports complex works out great and waterpark
I will definitely bring my granddaughter so we can have family memories. I do hope some things can be salvage or restored and placed in other parts of the city ( city park). Can be toured or something

  10. Kenneth Meek

You CAN get on the property. Arosary is wrong. Footage on Youtube proves this.

Like every other endeavor of NOLA, the new name of the old pig will too be doomed by the greediness of too many in the city, more concerned with self than the benefit to all. That’s been the self imposed infection of this city long before my birth, and will continue to affect anything attempting to be good here long after my demise. NOLA and it’s citizens never learn, just take a look at it’s past and current state. When you can’t remove a stain like Cantrell because of race and diversity, the decay and rot will continue forever.

    1. Jenna

Facts! I went there once and that was quite enough. I’m from Boston, and we got race BS here but NOLA puts us to shame! And I thought the idiots here ere stupid.

  12. Candice

I’m shocked!!!!! I hate to hear that hear that this location was damaged beyond repair..

  13. NolaRB

It will never get finished because the new owners Requesting City funds to help them complete the project
This would mean a special tax for the citizens of New Orleans to help pay for a private venture.
Follow the money on this one
We have a lot other Infrastructure projects that need to get done

  14. Yaqui

It was already closed what an incompetent reporter

Never been to the Six Flags in New Orleans, but have at other states. If it was damaged by hurricane Katrina, it was built to close to the ocean/water anyway. The state & insurance companies need to crack down on anything built less that 10 miles from oceans/waters of any sort. And those that choose to build that close to the ocean/water should NOT be insured. If they are insured they should have to pay a hefty amount for coverage.

  16. matt albrecht

21 million clean up costs. THIS is why you have INSURANCE. If you can’t afford the insurance, you can’t afford to build the park, the house, the building, get the car, etc.

“Assland” (what I called Jazzland) was always a ‘pretend’ park. Built at sea level (or below, like most of NOLA) was ALWAYS a bad idea. That close to the coast, no insurance, at that altitude… might as well have named the park “hit me” and painted a giant bullseye on the grounds.

SOMEONE laughed all the way to the bank when that one was built!
