All guests and bags are checked upon entry to each park. Why not remove the prohibited items at that time, and instruct the owner to reclaim the item at Guest Services when they leave?
There are selfie sticks all over Disneyland. Security let’s them in and Cast Members don’t do anything. Sometimes all they do is tell people to put them away and as soon as Cast Member walks away, they take them out again. Most times Cast Members seem to ignore them.

Sticks? That sounds dangerous if you lose it that could poke people or get stuck in the undercarriage of a ride.
