It was going to be a stupid law. When I have a turn to the left and I move to the left lane so I will not be blocked out when I approach my turn, I could be ticketed under the law. Also when the right two lanes are moving slow and I ,at the posted speed limit, move in the left lane to pass and cars going over the speed limit have to sloe down for me, I could be ticketed!

In response to the veto, I am a professional (make my living at it) driver and what I see everyday conflict drastically with the Governor’s opinion! First of all most highways already are posted with signs saying “Slower traffic stay to the right”! So law enforcement now could very well ticket slower traffic in left lane with “fail to obey traffic control device”! Most “old school” driver’s were taught in school that use of left lane was for turning left, avoiding traffic obstruction, or passing only! But since school doesn’t teach driving anymore, kids take it upon themselves or feel “it’s my right” on policies on how to drive! Most people are comfortable driving the speed limit, but when in traffic there can be many vehicles to why some are going slower than others! Most also are considerate to others in helping keep the flow of traffic, but there are also way too many obstinate driver’s in traffic that live in their little cocoon of a vehicle and seem to relish the idea of blocking traffic! To the persons post earlier about making a left turn, we were taught in driver’s ed to move to left lane a quarter of a mile before turn, yet having left lane blocked because of a driver who is making a left turn 60 miles or more ahead makes it hard. As most cars travel at different speeds, it is being courteous to slow down for slower traffic in left lane when they are passing someone else! Being out in traffic daily makes you aware of how many use a form of road rage thinking of driving side by side of someone in their efforts to “control” traffic by making everyone go the same speed as they are! Which usually in turn breeds more road rage toward the road hog! As a professional driver we are seeing more and more congestion causing more and more road rage that we have to navigate through daily! At one time there was a safety group pushing (a few years back) that driving in left lane was safer! But studies have found that to be false and most driving companies have kicked that system to the curb! Personally believe left lane legislation is necessary and passed through both houses for a reason!

I agree with all your responses and must add law enforcement should set an example on the road by driving as professional drivers as there law enforcement driver training has taught.

All truckers in FL drive in middle lane. Fact.

I agree with the bill. My driving test consisted of being considerate and being part of traffic on the road. Being part of the moving traffic on any roadway in any state means staying to the right. I remember a traffic law that enforced traffic in the left must being passing traffic and must not stay in the far left lane for more than 5 miles and can be ticketed for the offense.
To make roads safer and less congested put the speed limit in the lane on the road. The far left lane is the max (10 or 15 MPH over limit, middle 5-8 MPH over and right lane is the speed limit) and the right is the slowest traffic.
The speed laws are hardly the issue though with inconsistent and inconsiderate drivers.

Anbody who drives in FL knows its wild. Dangerous. This law would have made it even worse.

Totally disagree! Slow drivers think they own the left lane and cause road rage when they stay in that lane and don’t move over! Left lane should be for passing, not a lane to stay in!
