Disabled Guests Battling 'Exclusion,' 'Elimination' From Disney World Parks, 20,000 Respond

Comments for Disabled Guests Battling ‘Exclusion,’ ‘Elimination’ From Disney World Parks, 20,000 Respond

A torn image reveals three girls in Disney princess costumes, one in a wheelchair, smiling in front of a castle. To the left, a digital screen reads "Access Denied" in red letters, creating a stark contrast between the joyful scene and the message.

These changes are wonderful and long overdue. DAS was being handed out like candy. Not every disabled guest needs to skip the line (and many would brag about how they’re double-dipping while using DAS). It’s just like at school — someone in a wheelchair needs a ramp, but they don’t need double time on a test simply because “I’m disabled!”

This will allow Disney to provide the accommodations that are reasonable for each guest. EVERYONE would love to skip the line in the Florida heat, but if you add up how many people are obese or “sun sensitive” or anxious etc., everyone would be qualify

This doesn’t allow any disabled guests to get what they need. That is the entire point of the petition. How does not providing easier access to most disabilities allow people to get what they need? Do you have any experience with this system, or do you have any evidence what you’re saying is true?

Accommodations are meant to make something possible, not easier.

It’s about time Disney did something about not just the abuse, but the overuse of DAS. Having a disability in and of itself doesn’t mean that someone needs a DAS in order to access the attractions – it’s about need, not preference.

And it appears that Disney is (rightfully, IMO) limiting DAS to those who can’t access attractions without it. Wanting a DAS “just in case” something happens is invalid, and I’m glad to see Disney is cracking down. This will not only make DAS more useful for those who need it (much shorter LLs) but it will also help with the standby lines.

Yeah! Suck it kids and vets who are sick and injured! Wait, how is this going to help them?

          1. JustMe

Just because someone is sick or injured doesn’t mean they can’t either wait in a standby line or wait then leave if needed and rejoin their party to ride.

DAS defenders is a scam please do not listen to them they go to all parks under different names. They will hurt das ! They are not their to help you. They were started by someone whom has beeen banned from the parks not just wdw and this is the person revenge. Many parks know of this scam and are not listening. They litterally came at us at hershey under a different name about a separate admission for disablity which we had never!
The issue is bc your no longer able to scam disney. Invisible issues like my nephew are much harder to determine then my daughter who is visibly disabled. He needs das my daughter does not! Cms gave passes to people it was taken advantage of. You do realize the more you complain we will go back to no help and then where will you be?

    1. Matt

Do you have ANY evidence of these claims, or is your poorly edited rant just to make you feel better?

      1. Markus

Yea i am a manager at hershey whom was 1st to see this did my research all theme parks know whom they are and all the names they use. If your complaining you probably scammed the system and belong on a ban from the parks.

So you are saying that military veterans that have been placed in horrible situations, not voluntarily and documented, get denied for das because they don’t have Autism is ok? Before you ask, I do have first hand knowledge of this.

          1. JustMe

Just because someone is disabled doesn’t mean they can’t wait in a standby line or use a different accommodation.

        2. Matt

What does being a manager at Hershey have anything to do with this?

DAS did not allow for shorter wait times before. DAS users often wait longer than standby because it assumes the lightning lane is a 10 minute wait and most times Lightning lane is longer.

    1. Dvcmama

Plus we cannot use virtual queues unless we want to wait twice and for some of us we cannot wait at all. Truth is das came out of gac which was w fp and that had as you pointed out shorter waits bc thats how fp was handed out. Now LL has no time hold and its a free for all. Das though does limit now people when i was a cm oof the stories i could tell and sadly back w gac you had to show a dr note and yet i had 20 people come to me at alt entrance not one needed the help. Now a mom w someone whom needs das and cant wait i do not know whats best but i have done my research and know cms das defenders is a known scam to them. I wish people would be premoting them instead of just helping das get back to an alt lane or do what seasonal parks do questionaire you get the help you need done. While yes that doesnt mean you get a pass its still better than now i have to talk to a virtual person or universal lawsuit issue.

      1. Fuecoco

Well said dvcmama love to add the fights on LL as a cm i witness w folks whom paid to not wait vs das whose been told they dont wait but now they do is nuts!! I was also GRM during GAC and we had more problems w dr notes and more people scamming the system bc we all felt patient/dr confientiality is being hurt here and felt laws were being broken besides some things were TMI. Also i know folks at uni whom say there in hot water bc they ask too much when they truly didn’t ask of much. But i agree w the questionare thing seaworld has it and its a sinch to use.

      2. JustMe

Of course DAS users can use virtual queues – you get up early, like everyone else, get a boarding group, and when your boarding group is ready, you show the CM that you have DAS and they put you in the LL.

        1. Cindy caine

Hope your kidding bc some of us have a life! And No you cannot just get virtual queue that easily and we have to wait twice and some of us cannot wait also most whom are aps do not use the god forsaken crashy app! Unlike tourists we want to enjoy our day! But thanks for caring thats not the arguement jerk!

          1. JustMe

Grow up. The disabled have the same options for virtual queues as anyone else. If you don’t want to wake up and get the virtual queue, then don’t ride.

And if you get it, then you show your DAS when your boarding group comes up and they put you in the LL…just like the people who actually paid for it.

Being disabled doesn’t mean you’re supposed to get a better experience than everyone else.

        2. Team blue

Let me guess your hissy cannot scam the system abymore person taking it out on someone issues… virtual sucks no matter who uses it do not defend it! These rides are 1-2 yrs old when will it stop is a better pt if you want to make it but you wont! as a cm at tron please we need a reason to wrk! I heard guardians has it worse bc so many get sick. Between that and the death trap an ambulence sits behind the scenes at epcot now.
