Hi, this is Bryan Shull. Im confused. Is the ride cancelled for good or not. Is character and space trying to be added. If ride is for sure closing down it mise well be Disney’s The Colors Of The Wind Pocohantas. To be honest it makes more sense I think.

    1. Aunt Polly

If you actually took the time to read the article, you have no reason to be confused.

      1. dude

Its not real, its based on a satirical article from a disney-version of the Onion”…

  2. Ah yes. A movie about a post civil war free black man (who won an Oscar for the role) teaching some white kids about morals and family values by telling them old black folk tales (and thus preserving black culture) is racially insensitive. Got it.

    1. Aunt Polly

Yes it is…but not because of anything you described. You must be a huge fan of cherries, because you’re very good at cherrypicking.

      1. Ralph

Gee Aunt Polly, tell us what he’s missing.

I think Charlie hit the nail on the head, but by all means enlighten us.

        1. Aunt Polly

If this website ever allows me to post my thorough and longwinded reply (heh), I’d be happy to. Still trying. *fingers crossed*

          1. Aunt Polly

Gee, since you asked so sweetly…he failed to mention that Song of the South was adapted from a novel written by a white author named Joel Chandler Harris who appropriated the “old black folktales” that Charlie referenced and put his own spin on them. Despite the setting of the post-slavery Reconstruction Era, the movie chooses to portray people working as slaves by choice and singing with a cheerful Disney disposition as they do.

That’s not to say that Disney was trying to make a racially insensitive movie on purpose, but certain aspects of the old folktales did not age well, regardless of the morals and family values they might also contain. If a modern-day child watched the movie and wanted to do a show-and-tell presentation about the folktales in school, any morals or values might take a backseat to outdated and potentially offensive terms like “tar baby.” You might argue that it’s not offensive if children don’t understand the meaning behind it, but you could say the same about any swear word. If your own child doesn’t know the meaning behind the F-word, for example, does that make it okay to repeat it innocently in a classroom, since the other kids probably won’t know what it means either?

Thanks for coming to my TED talk. *smirk*

      TOUCHE!

      1. walt

Touche was for Charlie not for idiot aunt polly. Hey aunt Polly just because you say a thing does not make it so. Actually YOU are a racist bigot because you want to erase black history and cultural stories because YOU have set yourself up as judge and jury. Kind of the def. of a fascist.

        1. Aunt Polly

Aw, buttons pushed much, Walt? Your rants are adorable, and your writing skills are amusing at best. We agree on one point, though: “Just because you say a thing does not make it so.” That’s a statement that applies to everyone. In my case, actual research ALSO makes it so. Can you say the same? Please keep the amusing comments coming. Maybe someday you’ll finally figure out how to put an accent over the “e” in touché without resorting to an apostrophe. Don’t give up. I have faith in you.

    3. walt

      Touche’ charlie!

    4. Phillip

      What about the Native Americans?

  3. Canceling previews isn’t good business. People with DVC and annual passes may have traveled a distance to get there and paid for a resort stay. Only people it wouldn’t hurt would be local Floridians that can probably reschedule.

    1. Ray

These were probably Cast Member previews. AP and DVC previews don’t happen for another week or two.

  4. David

Never did any of my friends black or what thought that the previous ride was racist…

Hate what Disney is doing. Give it a few years and we will have nothing to enjoy…

After all they took away the character’s personality…

    1. Aunt Polly

Another white dude trying to earn “virtue signaling” points by mentioning that he has black friends. Trust me, sweetheart, your black friends are more woke than you realize. Just because they embraced a fun log flume ride like so many others did over the years, regardless of race, it doesn’t mean they’re immune to racial insensitivity in pop culture. Have a real conversation with them sometime and keep an open mind when you do. You’ll be surprised how much you learn.

    2. Dan F.

David, You got that right !!! There was nothing in Splash Mountain (or Song of the South !!) that was derogatory toward the Black population. Just an old man telling stories of the critters he encountered. After all, some folks are just tooooooo sensitive for the very reason that they are alive and living in the USA. Check history; survival in Africa (in this case 1600 – 1850 AD) was marginal at best. Infant mortality was 50% at various times; women who had had 5 or more pregnancy were hemorraging to death at the “old age” of 30 !!! Missionary accounts painted a dire existance.

  5. Gi

Watching the preview the ride looks pretty boring with a lot of dead space. Looks like they still have a lot of work to do because it’s not something I would wait in line for

    1. Andi texeira

I agree. This was the most boring log ride ever. Past disappointed.

    2. M Lopez

I’m sorry….but the “Song of the South” theme, which included the one of the first (if not the first) Oscar for a POC, was not something that needed to be replaced.

The theme included only animals and was both adult and child friendly. Notice that for it’s entire run, the NAACP NEVER took Disney to court for its “insensitivity”. That’s because it wasn’t offensive and it’s nature isn’t because people are more “aware” these days.

I grew up in the inner city as a child of immigrant parents surrounded by African-American neighbors and we all weren’t exactly taken at face value either, but we also certainly didn’t walk on eggshells like some people today, looking for offense in every possible combination of words or phrases.

This is an utter faux pas on the part of Disney.

      1. Spank You Very Much

Here’s the thing: Anything can be replaced at any time, whether it “needs to be replaced” or not, because Disney has the final say on how it wants to run its parks. Ultimately, it’s just a log flume ride, regardless of what the theme is. You still get a big drop and a souvenir photo. When it opens, I’ll be queueing up with my fellow wearers of soon-to-be-drenched grownup pants who are able to move on and accept change. Almost there, b*tches!

      2. Dan F.

M Lopez, Couldn’t have said it better !!!

    3. I agree it looks boring. Disney threw away a good ride to please a few people. Bad move!

  6. Brian

They should have added dr. facillier, trying to stop you from going to the celebration. The final drop could have been him singing friends on the other side, all in shadow of course. Besides the long dead spaces, there is no excitement to the attraction. Just to this way to the celebration. When they redid the malestrom, they made the frozen attraction exciting. There is no excitement here.

  7. Debby

Disney has always done a fabulous job with their attractions! The whole point in testing the ride before it is officially open is to make sure it is safe and working properly… There will always be a few that insist on picking things apart in a negative way, regarding how something appears to them; looks, smells….etc…. Just Enjoy the ride!! And quit complaining!!!

    1. Keil Fleischbein

I refuse to enjoy this ride. I don’t want tiana’s woke adventure. They ruined splash mountain because they wanted to look cool during the violent BLM riots. I want splash mountain and Br’er rabbit back! Or at least make it a native American themed Pocahontas ride.

      1. Nia

Just say your racist and nothing wrong with woke

      2. David

        Oh, grow up.

        1. Gilad Jacob

🤡🫵 you know that you fucked up when even tiana fans are
          Ok calling this retheme bad.

        2. M Lopez

Oh you grow up and grow some actual adult awareness instead of childish fragility.

      3. Matt

Was waiting for a dumbass response like yours. It’s not the 50s anymore pull your head out of your ass

      4. Cristopher Leshnick

I agree with this either being Emps New Groove themd or Pocahontas.

    2. Jesse

I’m sure you were on of the small few that complained about Splash Mountain when it conveniently and all of the suddenly became a racial issue.
Let people voice their opinions. They have a right to.

      1. Matt

People have been asking for a change for a long time. Having a ride based on a movie that will never see the light of day again is bad business

        1. Gilad Jacob

People like you are why Disney has fallen from grace.

        2. M Lopez

If it won’t see the light of day it’s because of people’s fragility.

Not because it isn’t worth showing.

People need to stop acting with their fragility.

          1. Spank You Very Much

Who gives a crap if an old movie never sees the light of day again? A log flume still exists (for now) and I’m lining up to ride!

        3. Ralph

Not true. You can get Song of the South on DVD in Europe and Asia.

      2. Splash Mountain was never a racial issue, you morron!

        1. Spank You Very Much

When someone calls someone else a moron while misspelling the word “moron”….ah, the irony is strong in this one.

  8. Brien

    Justice ✊🏻

  9. Keil Fleischbein

Song of the South isn’t racially insensitive. Stop being woke. Nobody wants Tiana’s bayou adventure. Bring back splash mountain! Or make it into Pocahontas!

    1. Nia

Some people do want it , nothing wrong with woke

      1. Southernboisb

Some people can’t even DEFINE what they accuse others of: “being woke”!

        1. Gilad Jacob

And people like you need to recognize the African origins of Brer Rabbit!

          1. Michelle

The problem isn’t Brer Rabbit it’s the book that Walt Disney adapted the stories from

      2. AH

        LOL

      3. M Lopez

Maybe originally “Woke” meant awareness of our cultural challenges. But “today’s woke” has hijacked that and is nothing more than childish whining and needless shaming for things no one ought be ashamed of.

        Get real.

    2. Matt

      Cry me a river grandpa

      1. Gilad Jacob

Awww, are you running out of things to criticize?

    3. Agree!!!!

  10. Serenity

They could’ve done better. With how much the Disney company makes it could’ve been a whole lot better. At least add more characters. Too much music and not alot of characters.

  11. Southernboisb

Am I lost? I thought Disney rides revolved around the movies/stories…not just a few of the characters.

  12. Lonnie

    1. Gilad Jacob

Splash mountain is a wonderful story that will never be topped by Screens.

  13. Jeff

Which mountain is that in the Louisiana low country? Anyway disney ruined this ride.

  14. Darren

I have no desire to see another woke experience at WDW. What is next reimagining the haunted mansion and remove ghosts because it is not politically correct to keep spirits confinesd to a space?

    1. Spank You Very Much

I hope so. The ghosts in the Haunted Mansion are very, VERY white. Not cool. Let’s hope the younger and woker Imagineers get on that, stat.

    2. Spank You Very Much

We can only hope. Those ghosts are very, VERY white.

    3. Thank you, Darren. I totally agree with you!

      1. Darren

Thank you Sharon. And for those who don’t like the idea of white ghosts like Casper wear a sheet of color at Halloween and see if people think you are a ghost or a skittle…. common sense please

  15. Cristopher Leshnick

This should have been “Emps New Groove Ride” with sharp rocks at the bottom. Stop making girly ride Disney. Get back to adventure and make better story lines.

  16. Lindsay

Yeah I watched the ride through, and I completely agree that there is a whole lot of nothing between very small scenes…and i thought the shadow man would have been great in the glow in the dark area before the drop when everyone is “shrunk down”. I’m really disappointed in this ride. There could have been some amazing scenes…and it failed miserably.

  17. Dixie

Well I was excited for this new ride, and think they have a long way to go to make it fun. And why isnt she in Tiana’s Place like in the end of the movie? thats what we remember at the end, since this is supposed to be a contiuation of her life. There can be scenes in the restaurant with pretty backdrops, signing and dancing, etc. Agree with the Facillier ideas at the end.

  18. I have very low expectations for this ride. I was excited for Remy, but I can’t stand that ride. I didn’t even care that I didn’t get a Tiana preview. Hopefully everyone enjoys it and they get the kinks out. I don’t like to get wet, so I probably won’t ride it very much. I’m happy for those who are excited.

    1. Aunt Polly

Keep the kinks in. It’s how some of us get wet. LOL

  19. Whitewashed

Disney being Disney. Slap a different character on an old ride and call it new. Problems are likely stemming from the fact that the “new” ride is still operating on 40 year old mechanicals that have now been sitting for a while as the cyber characters get their makeup painted on and now it needs coaxed back into operation.

  20. Jaybro1727

Being a former CM I can tell this re-theme is going to disappoint a millions of people. It is definitely very expensive and an overly-sanitized story. They could have done special effects where the vines/trees are in the ceiling. Where is the original suspense/conflict? It’s missing. The rest of the ride is kind of predictable with the story. They did do a good job incorporating some water effects in the second showroom (where the room with the bees were on the former ride). I’m totally disappointed otherwise.

  21. Heather

I want to go back to Magic Kingdom just to ride this. The Princess and the Frog was my youngest sons favorite movie when he was 2yrs old. He is now 13. I loved the movie and everything changes with time and people just need to accept this and stop complaining. If you don’t like it then don’t ride it. Period.

  22. Name

    Who cares

  23. MR Ducks

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah / Zip-A-Dee-Yay, my oh my what a wonderful day!

  24. Marie

Racially insensitive Splash Mountain? Are you kidding? The characters are based on African Folk Tales……

    1. Aunt Polly

The characters are based on a book by a white author named Joel Chandler Harris who co-opted African folktales and put his own spin on them. In other words, he profited off stories that weren’t his to begin with, but Africans were supposed to be grateful that their folktales got published in a book, whether they got public credit for them or not.

  25. GuestJulie Snyder

Dr. Facilier is setting off the fire alarms! LOL
