For the past five years, I have taken my kids out of school a week early. We did this to avoid the crowds at Disneyworld. However, we have been at Disneyworld every day since May 20th, and it is now the morning of May 27th, 2024. In the last three years, the crowds across all four Disneyworld theme parks and hotels have increased. This year, as we prepare for our last day at the parks, my wife and I have discussed finding new dates for our Disneyworld trips because the crowd size at all the parks is the largest we have ever seen in May. It also does not help that Splash Mountain and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster are still closed for updates. With those two attractions closed, people who would normally be in line are now in other lines, stores, or groups walking between rides, shopping, or restaurants. The prices are extremely high, and the experience has lacked the magic this year. We also have to worry about the changes to the DAS system on our next visit. That might be the deal breaker for coming back later this year, or even next year. As an Army veteran with multiple mental and physical disabilities, I feel I should not have to worry about it, but I do. I think the DAS system needed a change because it has been abused. However, I think any military veteran who can show they are rated as 100% disabled with a VA letter should automatically qualify for a DAS. I say this because I cannot stand for too long, I cannot sit for too long, I have to be heavily medicated to get to the parking lot because I have a hard time dealing with crowds, or people being in my personal space. I also purchase the Genie even when I have the DAS, so my family is not held back by my issues, or the fact I have a hard time staying in the parks for long periods of time.
To sum up, and to vent a little, this week has had large crowds. Mickey’s Halloween Party had dates sell out the same day tickets went on sale. I think every family should experience a Disney theme park if they can afford it. But avoid it if you will not be able to enjoy it, or will stress about the cost of everything the whole time, because you and your family will not get to experience the magic of the Walt Disney World parks.
First, thank you for your service. Thank you for doing something I could never do. I’m dealing with physical issues, not comparable to your challenges. We are trying to deal with the heat and crowds by doing 2 after hours events during our trip–Epcot and Studios. We are also doing a mid-day break back at the resort–time to cool down and charge the scooter. Have the family work with your limitations.
