These are reason’s that myself and most of my family members and friends have stopped going to Disney World. One day it’ll become another closed up park, because of the idiots that are running and ruining it. I’m sure Walt is spinning in his grave.
I agree 100%, I used to take the family to Disney World because you could just relax and enjoy all the smiles and laughter. Now you have to watch what you say or how look innocently at others with fear they will get offended over absolutely nothing. I will no longer spend my hard earned money at Disney “Woke” World.
All I have to say to everyone who has problems with the way a people are portrayed on a theme park ride is “Lighten up!” There are many other things in this world to direct your concerns toward. Another way to look at this is to use it as a learning tool as parents of an impressionable child. Take the time to pay attention to your children and educate them. That is the way to change society. Don’t be angry, be an advocate for change yourself. Show that to your kids.
Peter Pan has long lines because it is a nice ride to take the littler kids on. Thaf’s the same reason there are two Dumbo rides. When my daughter was 3, right after we got through the main gate of MK – no security back then – I would put her on my shoulders and hurry up Main Street to Fantasyland. She loved that ride, and going on it made the rest of the day doable.
Peter Pan is the same way, although because of the nostalgia factor, many adults ride it also. It needs a bit of updating, mainly in the illumination department, but how can a “sky ride over London” be culturally insensitive to anyone but an 18th Century chimney sweep? Get a life or get a grip!
Disney is becoming way too “woke” I loved Disney World and Epcot, etc . The whole thing is you go to an amusement park for amusement, right? Disney for fantasy, to escape the world for the time you are there, and enjoy yourselves.
STOP CAVING INTO A MINORITY!!! These are classic Cartoons and stories that were made for the time. They are fiction, fake, a story. Movies are fiction. What, are we gonna ban horror movies, cause people get killed? Action movies cause people get shot? This is silly. Parents need to teach their kids right from wrong. Disney needs to stop this and messing up its classics.
We have to teach new generations to understand stories in the context of the history of the times the story was written. Embrace the stories and generate conversations on the pros or cons of those ideas and behaviors. That’s what studying history is all about. If you don’t learn from history, the worst may be repeated through ignorance of behaviors that were harmful to all cultures at some point in time.
Spot on! Don’t have others do your work for you. If there is something on the ride that bothers you talk with your kids about it. Explain it to them. TEACH them. But the more you demand that things be erased the more teachable moments are lit. That’s NEVER a good thing.
A certain portion (small portion) of the population simply looks for anything and everything that could in some conceivable way “offend” them. Instead of kowtowing to their irrational obsessions, Disney should just tell them to get a life and move on. At some point Disney will find that their fan base has substantially evaporated, leaving the company with a handful (relatively speaking) of hypersensitive patrons that will make continued operations challenging at best.
Embrace our differences, don’t destroy them. Accept change when it benefits all of us, not small groups that only want things their way. Remember the rides and the park are for families, not individuals that think everyone should be the same.
I agree with leaving history alone. It’s history and we learn from it. I have cherished copy of Song of the South. That is how it was back then. Why wouldn’t African Americans want our children and their children to see that?
WALT DISNEY WORLD is supposed to be experienced “through the eyes of a child”. Filled with wonder, excitement, and joy of seeing Disney movies brought to life. Leave Adult issues and politics out of it! People need this fantastic fairy tale escape from reality to keep them sane in today’s social world.
This is yet again a tiny group with outsized political influence forever ruining the park to satisfy their own hysteria. Normal people suffer the consequences. Disney’s clientele will slowly dry up.
Some people are just to overly sensitive. If you don’t like it don’t go! I’m sure six flags will fit you better. I have some very fond memories of Disneyland and cringe everytime another person acts in this way. Cancel Culture is a Cancer that needs to end. It’s as dangerous and scary as people storming the Nations Capitol.
They talk about keeping up with the times, but if times are not progressing and advancing and they are following that trend, then it will kill you. And I guess actually you’ll finally see that when all the parks are closed and have a for sale sign on them 😞
Perhaps Disney should sample those long lines of guests as to their take on the ride. I would believe the vast majority would not point to the depiction of the Indians as an issue. Perhaps revamping some of the animatronics would a better use of redesign.
I so agree. My favorites remain Mr Toad’s Wild Ride and The Country Bear Jamboree.
“small world” (Correcty spelled..all lower case) and the Carousel premiered at the 1964 World’s Fair (as well as several other Disney Audio Animatronic (I never could spell that word ) displays. I know because my father designed the sound for them
Hiding behind the truth in life is never the way to go. History is going to be hidden and the new History being created will all be lies. It’s a ride, enjoy life and move on
I do find this ride highly insensitive. The stereotype of pirates with a hook for a hand or a wooden leg is very hurtful to real pirates. Promoting such characteristics could alao be harmful to young kids.
(sounds dumb when you put it like that doesn’t it)
Because pirates although real are and were HORRIBLE people. Where as indigenous people have been abused, villafied, murdered, had their culture forcefully ripped from them, children stolen from their homes. He’ll there was a government funded project to kill ALL of the American bison just to help exterminate the people. This is not something to wave away as no big deal. As a people and a culture they deserve respect and the portrait that’s been painted and mockery that’s been made is truly wrong. BTW so was song of the south so I’m glad splash mountain FINNALLY changed
I am sure that removing the Indians from the Peter Pan ride will satisfy everyone. Just like removing the Red Head from Pirates changing Splash Mountain to Tiana’s Bayou as well as any other changes to apeese the offened will fix everything for them. It won’t and never will. Wake up. Trying to fix the parks to keep the offened happy is a never ending unsuccessful venture.
I so agree. My favorites remain Mr Toad’s Wild Ride and The Country Bear Jamboree.

Next thing you know they’ll tell us our children can’t play make believe roles anymore! As a child we played cowboys and Indians, as well as other characters, all the time. Are we going to stop actors from playing characters? Leave Peter Pan and the lost boys alone!!
I agree with this. I remember as a child, playing these types of games. We didn’t have these “sensitivity” issues.
If you take certain things out of rides to satisfy a few, you change the whole story. Are you trying to rewrite the books Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, just because of the way they’re written? Peter Pan is a story- just like alot of other books.
Snowflakes in the comments complaining about the snowflakes at Disney catering to the mentally ill snowflakes. All of you snowflakes are why the rest of us can’t have nice things.
For heavens sake… It’s make believe. Do any of you adults out there really think that a bunch of kids fly out a window in London following a pixie and a kid in tights? If the Native American is “offensive”, write her out of the script. Most of the children and probably a lot of adults have never read or had the book read to them, so they won’t miss her. The book will still hold the magic of make believe for those of us who will tell the story to our kids, grandkids and great grandkids. A guy with a hook hand, a bunch of lost boys who somehow managed to take care of themselves without adult intervention, a ticking clock, a big shaggy dog who was a nanny to kids who could fly!!!! Oh yes, what ya gonna do about a life size mouse and his duck friend who don’t wear pants😂😄
I used to be a HUGE Disney fan. When I was asking if I could go anywhere in the world for vacation, I would always say Disney world. As a family,we would go for 10 day visits. No more. I’m so done with this crap. Walt would be ashamed of what has happened to his dreams.
Just another example of some snowflake waking up and deciding that this is what offends them. Wake up Disney! Nobody in any significant number is offended by this ride or this cartoon for that matter. It’s still one of the highest wait times in the MK!
IF adults, parents or others, would take the time to explain the context of scenes in the Peter Pan attraction, it might help alleviate the discord that some feel toward such scenes. I recall a scene from a TV show from the past called Family Ties. The focus of the show that evening had to do with the banning of the book Huck Finn. People found objectionable the use of the word ni#### referring to Jim. When explained that Mark Twain was using a word that was, at the time, in common use when referring to members of African descent, the English teacher portrayed in that episode said that it was not OK to use that term in the present time. Being of Irish ancestry, I have come across many derogatory terms that were applied to people from Ireland, as well as other countries. I understand the historic bias and prejudices, and bigotry that existed then, even though I find that they are revolting to my personal senses. I actually see these examples as opportunities to educate those of today as to why those references should have been, and today are, insensitive and cruel, and should not be tolerated. The Golden Rule should guide us TODAY.
