So tired of Song of the South being referred to as controversial – by ignorant authors pushing agendas on this site. It was only controversial to those with a brain the size of a pea and who find some imaginary offense in EVERY thing in life. Destroying “legacy attactions” and replacing them with mediocre (e.g. Tiana – so there is a black princess) and other short lived or outdated movies makes no sense – unless you understand that the idea is to completely remove Walt from Disney.

My history teacher taught me this,” when we dont know history then history repeats itself”. It’s really said how these people don’t know that and are trying to erase history, like when they changed the military bases to erase the confederate names, or to erase song of the south from the parks with splash mt .To me I’ll always call it splash and I’m glad my little brother got to ride it with me before it was gone. Brought to by a middle schooler from alabama

As long as we’re still taught about the civil war, or books and movies are published, then no history has been erased.

Very few schools are teaching American as it really happened. Wake up and open your eyes.

            Source?

Also, we still have the books that do explain history (and a good number of websites that host information about the Civil War) so…

The alternate teaching of American History was likely done to appeal to neo-confederates/Nutzis

            LOL! Blue Anon tripe alert.

I think you need to revisit some of your hateful ideals about the War. It wasn’t just about slavery. Free black men in the south from Louisiana fought for the confederacy. The slavery issue wasn’t brought up until after the battle of Gettysburg when Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. There were Black men in the south that owned black and white slaves. This is what should be taught in school, but it is not done because it would mess up the liberal Marxist agenda.

There is a difference between remembering history and celebrating history’s villains. No army bases are name after Benedict Arnold and non should be named after other traitors, like Jefferson Davis or RE Lee. For Splash Mountain, why have a ride themed after a movie almost no one knows.

Disney has Died. Walts Dreams are no longer shared by the Liberal Idiots who run the train wreck that bears poor Walt’s name. I am sick to death of them telling us what we can or should love, while promoting their Queer and Liberal agenda. I would no longer take any child to a Disney Park or Production. Song of the South is a part of our history, like it or not. You can’t bury your head in the sand and try and make it disappear. They are all well loved characters. And as for return to Qz. How can you dare to call it a Horror story, it closely follows the Oz books by L.Frank Baum. But you applaud an all black cast doing the Wiz, in the ghetto of Oz.
Yes, Walt is truly dead, and America is joining him!

It’s so bizarre to me that a place being run by a bunch of dudes wearing dresses and Chicks with purple hair and rainbow fingernails are offended by a 60 year old movie….. Weird bunch of people they choose to hire.

Song of the South has a great story/message. So much more than scripts today. There are some pretty racist characters in Princess and the Frog. Every Disney IP is some sort of characture.. usually from times past. Should British people demand the removal of Cogsworth? Or French people demand removal of Lumiere? The possibilities are endless!

This is a huge slap to the face to the founder of Disney himself. I wouldn’t continue investing in a company like Disney. Because Disney at this point is a loser company. Like how New York city is considered a loser city.

The funny thing is, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is actually very racist. Look up the history of slavery and salt mines.

Technically speaking it is known that no one from the naacp ever saw song of the south, and that all the African American actors in the film defended it. In fact I believe Ingrid Bergman was among those in holly wood who campaigned for James Baskett who played uncle Remus to win an Oscar for his performance which he did eventually receive an honorary Oscar. So if the naacp is willing to complain about it but unwilling to see it how can they judge it. Also it is often stated thd film took place during slavery when in actuality it took place in the reconstruction post civil war post slavery era.

such an amazing piece of History thank you for sharing. I’m so glad we’ve been able to learn this history for someone it knows thank you for posting

It’s likely the actors defended the film as they had all the context behind the movie, whereas the general public did not. There was no mention of “1865” in the movie.

    1. MD

Perhaps that’s because it was set during the reconstruction era, Which would be post Civil War (post 1865) 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not only do the stories from the film take place prior to the civil war, but they show how black people should be grateful to have what they do..

I love how everyone is focused more on SotS/Splash Mountain rather than Return to Oz being replaced with Up

A few years ago, one of my children was trying to get me to let them do something that they wanted to do but I didn’t particularly want them to do at the time, and they basically tried using reverse psychology on me. To which I immediately replied, “Please Brer Fox, whatever you do, don’t throw me in that briar patch!”
My child was completely confused by my reference, so I tried explaining Song of the South. Then I tried to find the movie on Disney, and then on video and am frustrated with how hard it is to find a decent copy of the movie for a reasonable price.
This movie also brought us the positive upbeat song of “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah”.

As for Return to Oz, I remember that movie. After I saw the movie and found out there was more than one book written in the Oz series, it inspired me to read the whole series!

I am tired and sick of people doing what they did to songs of the South that movie should be in history and that movie’s a decent film showing true history and as everyone forgotten the main character got a academy award and that Walt Disney tried to help him get it in front of the academy award but they said it was a whites only club.
I 100% miss that movie and that ride and I wish they’d bring it back because that was one of my favorite rides at Disneyland sad when they scrub a good ride and try to take it away just because Disney’s become woke and racist themself they shouldn’t put a racist comment onto a ride that they don’t nothing about

However it may sounds disproportional, it’s just another sign of more important global event – sunset of the western civilization. And overall step back from it’s finest achievements, including freedom, cultural values, etc., to that of primitivism, barbaric world views and hypocrisy – generally decadence. Not the first time in history, sadly, and inevitable social spiral. Helped most of all by descendants of that very civilization.

  13. New school Disney has got to go 😡 It’s quickly becoming “Not the Happiest Place on Earth “ . Don’t stop imagination but please leave the stuf that was fun and imaginative enough to please generations of True Disney fans🙏🏾 Walt would not be Happy with this woke Nonsense 🧐

  14. Paul

In a way the ride they made is just as controversial form what it is based off as the one they are replacing
