The Disneyland Monorail originally ran with no stops thru Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. In 1961, it was expanded to the Disneyland Hotel with a stop there.
Political Correct BS from liberal who seek to impose their views on everyone else.
If u can’t figure that out, then you need to educate yourself by NOT watching mainstream media.
I’ll never understand for the life of me why Disney World discontinued their shuttle service from the resorts to the theme parks. It was reliable, easy to access & couldn’t be nearly as difficult to operate as a monorail system. I think it was a huge mistake on Disney’s part to make such a bad decision.
Ok, here’s my $0.02, for what it’s worth. Disney has enough money to build a real Death Star in orbit, put Mickey ears on it, and build a space elevator to it and still have money left over.
It’s time to bring WDW Resort area into the 21st century. First of all, they built those fancy cable cars going to a few of higher priced resorts, now they need to expand the monorail system. Build it down to Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. Heck they could even run a line to the water parks Disney Springs. The line to EPCOT would have to be modified as would the TTC area because this would require a one seat ride. Magic Kingdom to EPCOT to Hollywood Studios to Animal Kingdom and back. The line to Disney Springs and the water parks would connect at either Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios. All new cars would be required for this. The old track would be replaced, instead of shutting the whole thing down, cement casts would be constructed offsite and trucked in. There sections would be removed at night and replaced with minimal impact. The double loop around the Lagoon, one could be shut down to replace the track and then switched.
That, or build a light rail system throughout the resort areas. This could be much more flexible and reach other parts of the resort. At least, that’s what I would do.
Perhaps the millions Disney is dumping into the parks will address updating the system. Unfortunately, Disney is slow with some projects (EPCOT) and faster with others (Tiana’s Bayou Adventure).
First, this is not news. The monorail system itself is not shutting down. The trains are scheduled for refurbishment. This happens all the time. 1 or two trains are taken out of service not office btw for extended refurb. If not done then the whole system would fail. Yes, they do need to get new trains but the problem is there is only a couple of manufacturers of them in the world. Second, LV uses the old Mark V not the Mark 6. LV bought the Vs from WDW when they put the VIs in service. Third, there are several reasons why WDW cannot add more rail lines to the monorail system, 1. Is cost 2. Is the land in the other areas is not stable enough to support and 3. Time. The final problem is that Disney has lost its direction in what the company was about. Unless things change soon Disney is going to be the largest corporate failure in history.
Funny how they are having problems, yet Seattle’s monorail has been running since 1962 and is part of the city’s transportation system. It hasn’t had any trouble getting parts or keeping them maintained and running.
lol but Disney doesn’t have meth addicts and homeless people sleeping in their monorails, and you don’t have to fear for your life in WDW or Disneyland yet.
35 years sounds like a long lifecycle, if these have been in operation that long.
Personally, I think that they’re an icon for Disneyland, along the lines of the Matterhorn… and, they solve a major logistical problem, while being that icon.
We have at Sky Harbor Airport, in Phoenix, a monorail to get passengers and employees back and forth.
You have to have a system that requires several trains on a revolution of routine maintenance. Every night switch the trains so while the one is being used the other is being maintained.
Disney has to commit more resources to the monorail than they currently do is the bottom line. Refurbishing the Mk VI’s has already gotten to the point of even after refurbs they don’t last very long before maintenance issues start happening again. The problem is the monorail system in WDW is now effectively custom job for new cars. They have to either commit serious $$ to have new cars made that works on their system, or commit $$ to rebuilding it to accommodate something else that has more COTS parts from a established vendor. Neither is cheap by any means but corporate Disney hasn’t made plans for investing in the company that doesn’t have some sexy advertising appeal to it like a new attraction or land. They keep thinking quarter to quarter stock price thinking vs planning a company 10 year road map.
Disney has more money than King Solomon they can sure as water be able to put out an RFB to furnish new trains. Instead they Band-Aid everything and say “that will do”. This is what happens when CEOs and Shareholder take priority over park maintenance and visitors experience.
After Cinderella Castle, the most iconic thing about WDW is its monorail system. What a tragedy it would be to see it go away. We always ride the monorail at least once on each of our trips to Disney. The current monorail cars were supposed to have been replaced a decade ago, after Disneyland received their new ones. But money was redirected. Then, it was announced that a music hall would be built in the Magic Kingdom, but later, that was cancelled because those funds would be needed for new monorail cars. Again, the money was redirected. What a shame.

Considering the current CEO’s overall annual compensation, his hourly rate would be closer to $7000 per hour.

Are you kidding me? Disney is Soo far in debt it’s not even funny. Iger paid over $50 BILLION for 20th century Fox.
Disney has almost $8 billion cash and short term investments but they have $48 Billion in debt on their books.
