  1. One consideration could be to partner with one of the electric car companies to make mini versions of their cars. Trick would be to add sound track to car. GM would be first choice since they are at Epcot already. But it could be put out for bids. Golf cart company could be the actual car builder.

    1. Jim

Yes, then they could have to close the ride for 8 hours every day after 2 hours of continuous operation. It would definitely show everyone the consequences of electric vehicles.

  2. Tom

    Attraction,not a ride.

    1. Curley

      It IS a RIDE.
Attractions can be anything that attracts people to the park, such as live shows, special gardens, and static displays. Rides are usually things that move you, and you have to go into, sit down in, and get strapped into them

  3. KD

It’s in a place literally called Tomorrowland, and people are complaining – keep the gas because nostalgia, too hard to modernize, etc…

  4. Scott

I like the internal combustion engines on the ride. I also like the smell (I’m weird, I know). I can propose a solution to switch the cars to electric and that would be to use magnetic induction to drive an electric motor, just like they do on the people mover. It is not like they do not know how to use that technology. They have been using is for 50 plus years.

  5. Vicky Shoulders

If the price stays or goes up you won’t have to worry, it’s out of reach for most families now. Keep just like they are, not much left from the beginning

    1. Vicky Shoulders

Keep the cars as they are

  6. Cheryl

To the person who commented about carbon monoxide odors impossible as that’s odorless

    1. Dave

Exactly! You took the words right out of my mouth.

    2. Kevin

I can not find where the ride was condemned.

  7. Billy

This group of Karens do not speak for the majority. Leave it alone.

    1. Diane

I agree 100%!!!!!!! I work in the restaurant across from it. It’s loved by many and the kids think they really drive the car! I learned first hand. My sister in law showed him the video I took of him when he was 5 years old, while I was sitting by his side. He was 11 when she showed him. She burst his bubble. He truly thought he drove the car. I felt so bad for him!! 🙁 They won’t get rid of it. It’s a big attraction.

  8. Yo

This had to be an April fools joke. I’ll be in Mk Tomorrow ill confirm.

  9. Linda M

I think that Disney should hold on to some of its more iconic rides. They have made so many changes around the park, that Walt, himself, would be disillusioned. Let’s leave the park the way it is. Those who don’t enjoy it, don’t have to wait in the queue! This is part of the Magic of Disney, and in all honesty, it doesn’t feel the same now as it is. Increasing these expenses by demanding that the park “go green” would only be passed along to families who are struggling to still visit since it is no longer affordable! All of these changes will be reflected in hotel rates and park admissions!!!

  10. Debra

This attraction needs to go, it’s past it’s time replace it for something better

    1. Sandy

Dear Debra, due to the economic downturn and rising costs please feel free to donate the needed monies. Then the rest of will not have to incur the cost to visit.

  11. Corrine

Whether it be some sort of races at or a completely different ride or attraction, the thing is, it’s located in TOMORROW LAND. Imo, it no longer fits that anyway. It should at least be updated in someway. Do race cars have a sleeker look now than they did back then? Or something different that really stands out from the 70’s and 80’s?

    1. Corrine

That was supposed to say, “Whether it be some sort of racetrack”

  12. Shirley

Hope it’s kept, it is a family favourite. Too many things are being changed and the magic has gone, feel everything is more aimed at adults than families which to my way of thinking is sad and not what Walt envisaged

    1. Dee

Agree leave it alone why can’t people just stop the negativity it’s been around for too long

  13. Laura

    Ha! April Fools!

  14. Sue L.

We were just at DisneyWorld two weeks ago with the grandkids. I asked my 9-year old grandson which rides were his favorites. He named Guardians of the Galaxy, Tron, and Tomorrowland Speedway —which he rode 2 times in a row with his grandfather. For a kid, Tomorrowland Speedway ranks right up there with the newest rides. I hope they keep it for the kids’ sake.

    1. Keep the
Tomorrowland Speedway the way it is!!!

      That is all.

  15. Michael

Use magnetic or linear induction to move the cars. Disney has great engineering !
    Imagineers !

  16. Michelle

Put the cars on an electric slot track. Similar to the subway system. Slot car racing is a fun hobby- or you could even do a remote controlled electric version. Tomorrowland speedway definitely doesn’t feel like tomorrow and it’s definitely not fast.

  17. Louis Smaldino

Going EV and you are basically driving Golf Carts, as a young kid this is the closest thing you have to feeling like your actually driving a car. And I continued to have fun with our kids as they got older. I am all for upgrading rides and attractions but they dont need to be done away with.

  18. R

    Nice April Fools joke

  19. LauraK

Sadly today kids don’t want to drive or definitely don’t enjoy the way we did growing up in the 70’s & 80’s they want to “FLY” just like the Jetsons cartoons imagined

  20. Jay

    Don’t like it?
    Don’t ride it!
    Go hug a tree!

  21. Especially with the attraction replicating the time-honored sport of motorsports, my thoughts are that unless they find a way to replace the cars with EVs with the same experience “feel” & actual gas engine duplicated automated sound so as to totally retain the overall experience, they should keep this extremely popular attraction as is with the exception of maybe a name change to drop it’s “Tomorrowland” moniker so people realize that in American automobile racing motorsports, gasoline engines are still, as they’ve always been, the standard.

  22. Frank Govea

Keep the ride!!!! As a grammar school kid in the ’50’s & ’60’s. , at Disneyland, the thrill of waiting in line and hearing the engines of the cars and seeing them driving by raised the excitement of when I would soon be behind the wheel driving, with my dad by my side. I saw the same excitement in my 7 Year old grandson’s eyes as we waited in line at Disney World two years ago. From 200 feet away, how do the ears hear the cars reving up as the car starts. The ears let you know you are getting close. Where is the excitement with an electric vehicle silently gliding by? Keep it the way it is.!!!!!!

  23. Mike

I’m in the “Leave it alone” camp. To those that bring up the “Tomorrowland” excuse, race cars were already half a century old the day Tomorrowland first opened, and the race track is in a transition location any way.

Disney works for all in that it has a blend of “attractions” that stir sentiments in all. The universal appeal is its ability to cater to everyone, not just the self-appointed chosen. The more this happens, the less the appeal will be there for everyone.

    1. Fred Carson

Leave the ride alone ., stop politicians from flying around and jets spending a lot more on one ride than these little cars would do in a year

  24. Louis Miritello

Maybe convert the cars to run like bumper cars run only pick up electric with magnetic fields?

  25. Steve

Leave it alone! It’s an awesome and fun ride

    1. Sean

I little tired of adults demanding that attractions intended for kids to enjoy be demolished to make way for adult attractions. I was thrilled as a kid to be able to drive a miniature car, my own kids were too. I enjoyed sitting next to them remembering what it felt like to be a 9 year old behind the wheel of a car.

    2. Kk

Listen to the 90% who say keep it, not the Libtards

  26. Debbie

Leave it alone. Our family loves it. Those from 8 to 80.

  27. Tammie Walker

Our grandchildren love them but every time I wait in that line it means I will have bronchitis for a few weeks. Unfortunately people with lungs like mine suffer with the fumes. 🙁

  28. Elizabeth hall

I think tomorrow land speedway should be replaced with a “cars” attraction like the one at the California experience

    1. Douglas

      Yrs!

    2. Steve

Great idea. I loved the car ride from Cars, and I’m in my 70’s.

  29. Rachel P

Leave it alone!!!! It has always been one of my favorite rides since I was a little kid!!!

  30. Vladimir Wroth

They need to close the Rat Trap, all together. I stopped patronizing the rat when they raised the entrance fee over $50 per person 🙄

  31. Shane Griffiths

I would be extremely sad if they replaced the racetrack ride,me and my family went in 2018 and we had the absolute most enjoyable experience of our lives!! I will never forget the pure fun enjoyment my children experienced when we spent a week there, and 1 of my daughter’s insisted we go on that ride and I literally never saw her laugh as hard and as much as she did when we went. I let her drive and whenever I think about it I can’t help but smile and get a warm feeling in my heart, we had to go on it 4 times that day and then at least 2 every day after that until we got back on the plane and came home. I understand change is enviable but I sincerely hope that ride isn’t replaced any time soon, thank you.

  32. Christine Niezgodzki

AS CENTURY OLD DISNEY PATRON, IT WOULD BE A HUGE LOSS FOR THE KIDS. MY GRANDSONS LOVE THAT RIDE. ITS ALSO ENDEARING TO THE MECHANICS IN THE WORLD RIDING WITH THEM. STICK WITH THE OKD SAYING “IF IT’S NOT BROKE DON’T FIX IT”.

  33. Douglas

You people pushing EVs and green energy lack a lot of knowledge. Strip mining for battery and solar metals causes an environmental disaster, not to mention the slave and child labor. A windmill will NEVER generate in electricity what it takes in Fossil fuel to build, deliver, install (another environmental disaster) and maintain. Then they, along with panels and batteries will sit in landfills forever. Nuclear is the way to go but again, you all think that is bad.

    1. Jenna C.

I would say keep it, but update the ride. The last time I went on, the car was wobbling back and forth the entire time. My mom was making fun, and calling me a bad driver. Which isn’t true, since I have a great driving record. Perhaps fix all the ride problems, get new cars, and use hybrid cars as electric is too expensive. I’m always cool with updates. And let’s say goodbye to dangerous fumes too, and keep everyone safe. 🙂

    2. Marty McFly

This article is about Disney’s Tomorrowland Speedway…it’s not an energy debate.

    3. Ema

What about the Earth? Or do u want it to end in 50 years?

  34. Beth

It needs to be updated, the smell is terrible.

  35. Firstlast

Let the “customer” decide. If you as a potential customer are dissatisfied with this attraction, don’t use it.

  36. First Last

Let the “customer” decide. If you as a potential customer are dissatisfied with this attraction, don’t use it.

  37. Cheryl

Keep the ride! It’s better than the alternatives and kids have loved it for years.

  38. Bee

I agree if it isn’t broken don’t fix it!! It’s been going strong for lots of years & I don’t imagine it has done harm to anyone, if you have breathing problems don’t go to this particular ride! Leave it!!!

  39. Tina

I love it and worked it!! The heat was incredible on the track but I would do it again. Walt put the ride in for a reason, these cars are the only ones that some people are able to drive, be it for a medical or religious reasons. The crews are very unique and dedicated to Speedway.

  40. Dennis

The fumes are part of the experience. Keep it. Let nostalgia be a part of the future. Lol.

  41. Chris

FYI, Carbon Monoxide is orderless and colorless.

    Until next time !!

    1. Elisa

  42. OKEngineer

The Fox News crowd getting riled up at nothing (again) not realizing this article was published April 1. Priceless.

    1. Larry

I don’t see anything about Fox news or even anyone worried about this. Typically CNN viewer making up shit

  43. Craig

    April Fool’s?

  44. Kent

Until all the critics are driving EV’s, leave it alone!

  45. Merrick sparkman

I don’t want to see Tomorrowland speedway shut down it’s my favorite attraction and I don’t want to see it electrified either.!

    1. Flamingpie

      Totally agree with you!
I was just talking about the rides at Epcot and I said the best ride over there is the speedway And the dinosaur tour ride… They are Staples.

      1. Donald Taylor

Haven’t been in a while eh?

  46. Monica Oliver

EV’s are worse for the environment ya left wing idiots!!!!

  47. Would be awesome if they rethemed it to wreck it Ralph sugar Rush game or Disney’s speed storm game theme.

  48. Phyllis

I was there in 2018 and the ride is not what it was in 2019. I say keep it as is, no electrics and update the cars. Those cars are so out of date. Hard to maneuver, steer, and push the gas pedals for me at 60 then. My 7 yr old grand daughter had the same problems

  49. Brenda

Why tear down a ride that everyone lives. Bad idea!

    1. Bob.m

Totally agree it’s time to replace it with something better. It has been a weak ride. It’s slow its smelly and not worth the wait. New cars would not need a battery. . They could have electric motors replace the gas motors and the power source can come from the track ( rail) it rides on . Bumper car run on electric motors for years and get the power from the wire at the top of a pole. .same concept. No.noise no.fumes makes sense .

  50. Tom

Stop with the bleeding heart tree huggers. I bet they didn’t walk or bike to Disneyworld. Don’t worry the classic cars will be electric in due time.

  51. Chris

The entire appeal of this ride is to allow the youngest of kids the ability to “drive their own car” with an adult sitting with them, often having to push the accelerator.

For all the people saying this attraction is boring, is dumb, get rid of it, a question did you ever ride it as an 6 to 14yr old?

We had to go back and ride it three times this year because of our kid drivers, 10yr, 8yr, 4yr, 4yr old.

It gives them a sense of freedom in the park that is so ride safety controlled for the young kids.

  52. Leeron

My family and especially my son LOVES Tomorrowland SPEEDWAY!!!!

  53. Doc

Leave the ride alone. Update or overhaul all the cars. Rebuild the motors and suspensions. Just like real cars they wear out.

  54. Steve

    Leave the Damn ride
Just fix it up. That is the best ride in the park

  55. Marie

All electric? LOL….how about leave it alone. People want to ride the entire track….not just 20ft before the charge dies…..

For those who don’t like it, stay off. It’s not rocket science….. Enough crap changes have been happening at Disney and people are paying through the nose for a much lesser experience.

  56. Phil

Production of electricity for the ride? Wouldn’t producing the electricity cause more polution the just making them solar?

  57. Maria

If you’re going to get rid of it make it Cars from Radiator Spriings. Kids would still be able to ride and love it and it would get the overhaul it needs by updating it.
