Having had a raccoon and dealt with them in the wild all my life, including being chased by an actual rabbid raccoon as a child, he wasn’t “attacking” anyone. He was scared to death and trying to find his way out. And all the running and nearly getting kicked a few times (probably accidentally), scared and panicked him even more.
If he was “attacking”, he would have been running at people, not trying to get away from them.
