Why is this even a question? It’s already against federal law to hire anyone, including citizens, without clearing an I-9. We’re acting like Florida is doing something ‘mean’ or unusual. The state is in line with federal law.
Except it happens everywhere in all states. The fact is that Florida is going to end up losing billions in revenue and businesses will close their doors. Illegal or not there are consequences.
Exactly. This is already illegal and Florida is finally taking a proper stance it. It’s will take a while for Disney and other companies to adjust, but at the same time, there will jobs in Florida for a long time and anyone moving to Florida looking for any job will be able to get one and gain work skills.
I was going to say the same thing. It has always been against the law to hire illegals. But if they come to IL the governor is helping them find jobs!!
When people are given socalled free money ,they have no incentive to find a job,so that’s why the people who can get jobs don’t want to and that creates this problem, not enough qualified workers.
The real problem is they won’t pay a competitive wage. I was laid off during the pandemic. After they started emailing and calling me to come back but I already had found a new job paying $5/hour more than what they would offer me.
How dare you think you are worth more!!!! How will Bob Iger et al keep their ridiculously high and undeserved pay levels. Think of poor poor Bob you selfish person.
I think the law is right you need to be a legal citizen citizen and you can work but but Walt Disney does not pay a living wage, so they’re also to blame!!!
Disney treats their employees horribly! Use to be a great place to work now they treat their employees like slaves… they use to appreciate hard work, now they just want a body… they laid off great employees during the pandemic and filled them with people who have no work ethic Come on men wearing skirts, black nail polish hair that hasn’t been washed in weeks, dirty wrinkled costumes. I’m not paying that kind of money to see people who look homeless… gone are their basic standards… no longer the happiest place on earth. My kids don’t need to see that!
Native Floridian and former Disney Cast member here. Most employees in FL do not pay a living wage, and Disney is no exception. Disney was not hiring non-documented people directly before the law anyway. The companies that sub contract to Disney may have been. The biggest hit from the anti immigration will be construction and farm work. Get ready for expensive strawberries, orange juice, and tomatoes in the years to come. Even documented migrants are leaving the state for fears for their family. The fruit isn’t going to pick itself. It is enormously expensive to bring workers on the legal way, and the system and requirements for it is outdated by decades.
Ironic how the Republican legislature wants to “protect” children from Trans and homosexual folks with the Don’t Say Gay law, while encouraging school aged children to work longer hours. Let’s not forget the state also recently passed legislation preventing local governments from enacting any heat protections for workers. Republicans hate the working class. Their efforts to “protect” Floridians hurts more than helps most of us.
Actually, Disney was one of the many companies in Florida that lobbied the Republican legislature to create & sign into law this ridiculously draconian & inhumane law that the little whiney Nazi in shoe platforms signed into law. They could’ve ignored those despicable lobbyists, but no, they got in bed with’em once they started pumping millions into their coffers! The point of this, is the Walt Disney World heavily invested in this ridiculous law being passed.
They need to offer more money and heathcare at a minium amount of hours to get benefits nothing over and they will get a lot of seniors wanting to work for them who also have the old school attitude and remember the way Disney was. Most of their cast members are just bodies you get a senior who has work eithics and can do the job of three people plus has the welcoming attitude to the guest. It is a win win.
It’s not just Disney, it’s ALL the theme parks. I used to work at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg Virginia and they treat the International students WAY BETTER THAN THE LOCALS. It’s also who you know in getting promoted. Or who you sleep with.
They don’t have any entry level jobs of any kind. Everything they have on indeed is needing years of experience. In mainly IT and marketing areas. I would love to be a CM. So there’s not a huge shortage. Just alot of speciality jobs
What kind of jobs is Disney world hiring? I have over 40 years of Data Entry experience. I’m a fast typist. I think I have great work ethics. I have been at the same job for over 40 years and it’s my first job. I could maybe do aome other things. What happened to loyalty? If you really need to get another job making more money that Disney world is offering and stay working there then I guess that’s one thing. Also, do not be a job hopper. You need to be loyal to your employer.
Wow – it’s DeSantis’ fault that he along with the legislature prevents ILLEGAL ALIENS from taking jobs from Americans. For too long wages have been suppressed by these people FROM WHERE EVER THEY COME. I get agriculture may need them – ok create a guest worker program. But both sides want to use this issue as a kickball and not solve problems. Oh and I will point out abortion has resulted in over 70 million Americans in the dust bin thrown out like yesterdays trash – sure could use those workers now – not to mention that stain would not be on the nations soul.
The real truth has zero to do with not being able to hire illegals, Disney World does not pay a wage that allows any Cast Member to actually live and prosper. If you work for Disney one thing is for sure, you will be poor for the rest of your life if you stay there.
If we actually had a functioning, legal immigration system, we wouldn’t have so many people coming here illegally. The process to immigrate here take years and, even then, you may not he approved.
