Universal currently has the better prices. I am the “oldest” Mouseketeer on the planet–I love Disney! Used to go almost every year from 1989 to 2020. Not now. The price increases over the past 3 years since WDW reopened are ludicrous! And they keep going up, so until this vacation becomes affordable again, we will not be going back. Charging to get a quicker entry to a ride, such as with “Genie Plus”? No.
O please. Just looked at the both websites and prices are comparable. And I’m sure you are also paying the same price for milk and bread as you did back in the 60’s right. Not defending price increases anywhere but you’ve heard of inflation right or are your mental capacities that far gone. Enjoy your day
I think good for services, Carla has a point. Disney claims they have been doing constant upgrades and development but what you get in return for the price of admission is far less at Disney. One kudo I will give Disney is they definitely go for “feeling like you are away in a different land” from the interior of their shops to guest services. But Universal is taking cues and making changes.
I do agree with Carla that prices are high and I get what John says on inflation, however a for day pass to Universal Park to Park with Expires Passes cost me $1800 for one day. Kind of hard to swallow that for a one day excursion while in Orlando (I’m based in Denver).
Aren’t you a smart a**. People with this screwed up economy can not afford these outrageous prices John!!!
Maybe you can, but people are not able to afford the basics anymore.
They are sacrificing to be able to survive.
I just find your comments outta control!!
I agree with you John is out of touch.
Disney is out of control with their prices pass prices and everything they sell in the park it’s ridiculous
I stopped going to Disney the last 8 years when they started to make some crazy changes and this changes besides prices going up have hurt Disney and have lost visitors like me my family and friends.
Ghost town? Maybe not that empty. But they’re bound to draw a major group of people looking for something new and different. And then if you add in a bit of resistance from Disney’s wokishness, well, maybe they’ll drop a bit. But not to being a ghost town.
I think the prices have skyrocketed for Disney. Why are we having to pay so much for parking and you can say goodbye to 420 dollar’s whe we go for two weeks I have been going to disney for 25 years this will be my last trip. How can the justify charging 14 dollar’s for a hot dog. They will drive away the regular goers. Universal is cheaper and more affordable. Mabe we will have th start going there.
Universal is not cheaper. In fact it’s a little more expensive. Their fast pass costs way more than Disney’s LL. And the cost of entrance and food prices are just as high.
I was at both Disney World and Universal last year, and felt significantly more comfortable at Universal Studios. Prices were similar between both parks. But I just did not enjoy my 3 days at Disney, while the 2 days at Universal was spectacular. Each park does thinks differently. Disney does an elaborate visual check of your backpack and purse, while Universal ran them through an Xray….almost 3 times faster on entrance. Imagine doing this 3 times a week and I saved 2.5 hours waiting at Universal.
Disney is not going down because universals new park. Disney is going down because they have alienated so many people with poor quality, lack of value for the cost, PC/extreme left ideologies be pushed, the lack of new stories and ideas the complete inundation of IPs with no respect to the original concepts and stories. Disney is doing itself in not by external competition.
You know the price beforehand or should. Yes everything is going up .if you want to go there then go if you prefer something else go there .how much is a hot dog at a football game and parking
I think the only thing your so called expert is an expert of pulling moronic comments out of their a$$. All the Disney is dying crap is gettin getting real old.
For several years now the only time I visit Walt Disney World is when I go to participate in one of the RunDisney events such as one of their half marathons or the marathon. If Universal held road race events similar to RunDisney’s I’d probably never go back to WDW.
Disney is making a huge mistake. When was the last time they added any SIGNIFICANT capacity increasing attractions? Galaxy Edge and Toy Story replaced the Backlot Tour. Runaway Railroad replaced the Great Movie Ride. The Epcot renovation simply repackaged existing attractions. Avatar replaced Camp Mickey/Minnie. Even the “New Fantasyland” repackaged the existing attractions and used the old 20,000 Leagues space. The only ACTUAL addition I can think of is Tron. The last Major Capacity additions Disney did was 1999 with Animal Kingdom and part of that is now closed (Dinoland). BUT Disney managed to more than DOUBLE cost of Annual Passes. Very sad. Disney WILL pay hard in 2025 AND BEYOND!!!!
I was disappointed when we went down to Orlando. I found too many of Disney’s attractions closed for renovation and staffing issues. I had attended Universal in California and Florida was more responsible and exciting than Disney.
Glad to hear it will be empty for my trip in November of 25! We go to both WDW and Universal. Uni is a great amusement park. WDW is a Magical one. if I was told I could only attend one, it would be WDW, no question.
Those who play politics and moan about ‘wokeness’ are just admiting that they feel people being treated as “equal” is a bad thing. Their comments say WAAAY more about them than it could ever say about Disney…
Not too worried about blowback; my posts never show up here, anyway. I’m always bounced.
Personally I’ve been to universal a handful of times and have never been impressed. It’s just a bunch of screens you ride through with the occasional ride mixed in. I’d rather go to Disney, especially if the crowds go down, even though I haven’t been as impressed with their movies lately.
Last time we went to Disney the lines we long, so many crying kids in the lines, just didn’t seem like the Happiest place on Earth any more. Yes in flation has hit every area of our life but ticket prices at Disney have exceeded the affordable rate for the average family. Have gone for years but with Dsney’s change in family values, long lines, food, ticket and parking prices, it’s time to take a break. Best of luck to those who go, take your patience pill before heading out.
Honestly, honestly, it was the male princesses that did it for me. I will never take my children there. Don’t blame it on competition for the drop. Take responsibility for your actions and lack of morals.
I don’t have under 10s which is what Disney base there park on. I’m an adult Disney is a waste of a day when you go to Universal studios and island of Adventure. I’d rather go Seaworld or Busch Gardens. I wouldn’t go Disney if the tickets were free.To me it’s a waste of a day. Small rides heinous queues, ridiculous merchandise you can get from amazon, often for a 10th of the price…..xxxxx
Disney is the most over priced, over hyped place in the most overpriced over hyped city on the planet! Personally, I think Orlando ought to add casinos and truly become the Vegas of the East. As long as the dumb governor insists in fighting with his state’s largest employer and largest property owner, it wont be going anywhere real fast, real soon. The citizens there need to oust him. Hes more worried about being humper-approved than being a governor. BTW, former governor Bob Graham died earlier this week, FL ought to look at his term to what their governorship should look like. He literally won by 2 landslide elections and literally hauled tourism into FL. The current governor cant find his butt with both hands and both feet. Pretty sad.
We are annual pass holders and will continue to be. Ghostown, while not even close to true, would be welcomed by us. Paying for parking is pretty much a normal. Go to the beach, if you want public bathroom, pay $20-25 a day. The disney magic is still there, but you have to go with that mindset and not expect the day to be handed to you on a silver platter. Everyone else there, paid to be there too. Over the last 3yrs, we seen so many guests with such a privileged snotty attitude.
Ghost town? Please, id pay double if there was a way to have less people in the park with me, but unfortunately the park is as packed as it’s ever been, there’s no price people aren’t willing to pay to fill that park up to near capacity
Yeah, Universal still sucks at making dark rides. For every one good ride like Revenge of the Mummy, we get 3 Race Through New York, Fast and Furious and Skull Island. If I wanted to see a bunch of movies on a projection screen, I’ll go to a movie theater. As for roller coasters, Universal does a pretty good job… But so does everyone else. Six Flags, SeaWorld and Busch Gardens also build great coasters so they really don’t stand apart from the rest.
I’m in California and the horror of theme parks is well established. How long the very expensive fantasy versus the very poor reality can continue interests me the most. How long can people afford to spend enormous sums of money to live briefly in orderly, clean, safe environments for hours and then exit to see the horrors of poverty, social inequity and waste in real life without being affected by it and demanding better for everyone. I was just at Disneyland, seeing how the tourists rush towards the pretty fantasy and ignore the grim reality outside the gates tossing small fortunes aside while stiffing the poor, the old, the sick. There parks are the spectacle of our society that have replaced the Roman colloseums and organized murders of the past. ⁹
I’ve been going to Disney World since it opened. I even have a DVC membership since 2012. However I canceled my vacation plans at Disney this year and switched to Universal because of Disney’s continued support for genocide. I don’t know if I’ll ever go back. Universal may become my theme park of choice from now on. I’m glad they’ve expanded. It makes the flight to Florida almost worth it.
I’ve always found Universal much more fun than Disney World! Hands down I would go to Universal every time. Once my kids grew out of “storybook” fun Universal had more grown up rides and exhibits.
I personally have decided the price of both Disney and universal parks has gone up too much and I will not pay the price to go there. It doesn’t matter what new park they install. I feel bad for people who have kids. I took my kids to the parks in irlando on a 2 week trip when they were all at an appropriate age , around 2012, and it cost me 20 k then with 6 kids and my mother in tow. With today’s prices I wouldn’t be able to afford a single day, the prices have gone up so much. And that 20k was for parks and food no hotels. We stay in our timeshare off property and that does have a cost, but it wasn’t factored into that cost.
Just returned from Orlando. Stayed at a universal hotel but did a one day to Disney . Nearly £700 for 3 park hoppers. Lots of rides shut for refurb, lots of rides running at 1/2 capacity so long queues of 3 hrs. One ride broke as we neared the front of the queue after 1.5 hrs. Another broke down when we were on it. So all that money for 3 rides. I should have used the money for fast passes for universal, whose rides were superior and less queuing . I have been to Disney in Paris which I thought was much better . I think they really have to up their game
We were at WDW in February and it was as busy as it’s ever been. I hear daily horror stories about them maxing out capacity and shutting off park hopping to MK. The place will (unfortunately) never be a “ghost town”, despite pricing and whatever they have going on at Universal.
I have been going to Disney and Universal for years since they both opened. While Disney is still magical, it really needs to update some of its attractions. Carousel of progress ends with the exhibit being in the late 60s. Universe of energy has sat empty for years. The new roller coaster rides don’t take into account that not everyone likes intense roller coasters or space attractions. What about a themed roller coaster for everyone that isn’t space related. And without Splash Mountain operating, there really isn’t much else. The mine train was a great idea and is really cool. Epcots attractions are getting really old like Spaceship Earth which needs updating into the future. California Adventure and the Land are good but the other rides are a bit boring. All said, Disney will always be great but they don’t make enough effort to update like Universal does. The new minions exhibit at Universal is just another shooting game like Buzz at Disney. Nothing special. Use to love Twister, Jaws and Earthquake. They need more innovative stuff rather then just shooting exhibit. Can’t wait for Epic Universe.

beautiful gorgeous
Sounds great. Maybe I won’t need Genie plus
Beau
Nope, instead you’ll need the Universal Express Pass that costs $300

Boo! No woke Disney, and no woke Universal.
Woke Epic Universe is the product of another state handout. Florida have them a special district privilege. Stop Communism and handouts!
