This is not at all accurate. Just on these films alone they made $3.2 Billion
    Rouge One
    The Force Awakens
    The Rise of Skywalker
    The Last Jedi
    Solo
Not to mention all the $ made from merchandise and the TV shows such as Mandalorian.

I do jot respond often, but just looking at dollars is nieve. The IP they got from lucas, ILM, is world leading and lead to the construction of the volume and many other technologies, that are advancing movie making. Also the galaxy edge in parks ,Disney’s biggest money maker is not included nor merchandise. Cheers david

Are you forgetting marketing costs and the fact theaters take half of box office?
Quick numbers, and most of below may not even have marketing costs in the mix…. Profit:
      Rogue 163
      Force Awakens 533
      Rise of Skywalker 116
      Last Jedi 349
      Solo -78
So you’re only off by 60%.

Budget of force awakens was approx $240 million. Not $450 billion. That’s a little bit of a difference

      1. I am and have been a Disney fan since the1950’s. I have been, and still go to Disney World and Disney Land often. I haven’t been to a movie theater in decades. We have a home theater and watch Disney movies with my grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Movie studios are under no obligation to reveal the actual budgets for their movies and when they do they often lie. On top of that the trades tend to put estimation out about the budgets as well. And a lot of the time they are way off the mark

The problem for them is that Forbes looked up their tax filings for the movies they filmed in the UK to see the Actual budgets.

Nobody buys star wars merch anymore at least for the new movies. Disney makes rhe absolute worst entertainment

Honestly I was a Star Wars fanatic all my life. Disney has ruined star wars. The casting has been terrible. The actors they select have no charisma. They killed off the legendary star wars heroes. They built a land based on a place that doesn’t exist. They’ve made shows feel depressing rather than exciting.

OTOH, without the Star Wars content, nobody signs up for Disney+ and its losses become even more massive.
Marvel content can only go so far. For the classic Disney fare, you would have to drop the price to about $3 to $4 a month.

Fix the nonsense that was the last jedi. U lost tons of life long fans by ruining the new hope that is Luke Skywalker.
I’m sticking to the Mando Era earlier. Bad batch and clone wars rebels are great.

Don’t give up yet “Disney” I have a billion dollar idea.

New Characters and new timeline to add..

4 Billion to acquire Star Wars and 447 Billion to make the Force Awakens. Nearly half a Trillion on one move. No wonder they lose money.

Dood. You’re only off by one zero. TFA didn’t cost a half a billion $$.

While Disney made quite a profit on the franchise; in my opinion they’d make a whole lot more if they’d release the shows to other platforms, ex. Vudu, iTunes

Only the original movies were any good, their is only so much mediocrity fans are willing to put up with. Make the content a lot better the profits will follow.

As a parent, I can report that Star Wars does not resonate with my kids’ generation like it did my generation. My kids are aware of Star Wars, but don’t care for it. Part of the problem is, most of the live action shows and movies cater too much to neck-beard fans (like myself). And the animated shows (e.g. The Bad Batch) are buried on Disney+. Not all families subscribe to Disney+, and even if they do, the go-to “TV Babysitter” is Netflix. If it’s not on Netflix, kids won’t find it. Contrast that with The Clone Wars from a decade ago – every kid had access to it and discovered it because it was on Cartoon Network. Disney+ is bad for Star Wars – Disney needs exclusive content on Disney+, but being on Disney+ means a show or franchise doesn’t reach it’s potential audience.
