That Universal park sounds pretty cool

Maybe he can raise the ticket prices another 300 bucks so it can be more unaffordable. As much as I loved Disney, the price gouging is sad and undeniable.

Great article on universal. All I got from Igor was he has no plans. Nothing new there. That’s how he managed the company into its current condition.

The Disney stock dropped $4 today after the current board was reappointed. The stock price is lower than 10 years ago.

It doesn’t matter which side won, the stock is going to drop for a while now now that both sides don’t need the all the stock anymore for the vote. This always happens after a hostile takeover.

Disney’s problem is not Universal, they have made their park unaffordable for the middle class and if you are fortunate enough to go to a park, you spend $600 for a family of 4 for 1 day at a park to go 3 maybe 4 rides.

    “Epic Universe”=Disney killer

    Disney R.I.P. 2019…..

If this is about DISNEY WHY do you constantly criticize the company that gives you a job. Your a Putz

Disney has a simple solution to over-crowded parks. Raise the prices so high that half the usual crowd stays away. Done! Spend NO money and gouge people out of more.

I have been to Disney but not Universal. I would love to go again, but trying to fit it in the budget is difficult. The price is so high. Make the prices reasonable for middle class people and you would have more people coming.

Having just returned from a three day trip to Universal, I can tell you it is well worth the visit. Lots to do, excellent theming, not cheap, but more affordable than Disney. Highly recommend a visit if you can.

Agree with Ken! Disney needs to stay out of politics and focus on kids/family experience by dropping their prices and going back to automatically having 3 fast passes (free) with the price of admission and limit the number of guests per day (keep reservations) which can enter the park to keep the experience enjoyable for everyone (which would resolve long wait lines and the limited number of rides you have time to go on).

I’d venture to say that there are many in the camp with you and Ken. They probably won’t be vocal about it. Disney will simply experience a steady attrition of long time loyalists away from their parks. Walt’s vision of a place for all is withering, and combining that with straying from their original mission of providing a place of fantasy to get away from the trials of daily life isn’t going to help their cause.
Bob and gang should get back into their lane and stay there.

Mike – well over 100 park visits, weddings & family reunions at Disney venues, Run Disney, Passholder, and more (along with disgruntled).

We all know that this 5th park is because of Universal. Why not say that you wanted to be competitive with Universal and that is why you are doing it?

They did not know about it for more than a decade and even if they did, why weren’t they worried before? Why only after Potter did Disney move “fast” to open 2 or 3 lands? If it wasn’t Potter, why would you open or plan to have lands open years before a new park from your competitor opens? Wouldn’t they want lands to open around the same time the park would open like maybe a year after or 2 or 3 consecutive years after?

    1. Bryan

I just realized my first question doesn’t make sense.

      1. Rob

This is so true. Disney really IS expanding a lot. Bit what they are doing is removing experiences (like the Luau at the Polynesian) and building hotels and vacation clubs. If they can get people to buy Disney Vacation Club) aka timeshare) memberships, they can lock in steady hotel income and you still aren’t guaranteed admission into the parks if it’s overcrowded.

And they have gone really light on Disney theming at the new hotels – some paintings, e.g. at the new Riviera. These are all tower hotels now, too. So theybhave increased ROOM capacity by a lot. Just no park capacity. But they already got you $800 to $1200/Night so they don’t care if you make it in the parks. What they want is for you to NOT get in the parks and go to Disney Springs and buy all the merch amd maybe go to one of their movies. It’s the perfect vacation – for Disney’s bottom line.

Disney has made its choice in staying with Bobby I. Most of the nickel and dime policies were initiated by him and continued after getting rid of Paycheck. I wouldn’t look for Bobby I. to start a 5th gate anytime soon. He’ll build more hotels and crowd the parks before a new gate.

  13. Concerned Parent

No they aren’t ready and don’t really care. The Disney adults will keep them going no matter what. Family’s lean to universal backed movies these days. Don’t have to worry about the content of their kids movies like we do Disney.

  14. Marie

Give it up Iger. Time to sell Disney parks and studio to someone who will embrace all of Mr Walt’s visions, instead of trashing them all.

Disney can’t handle what they have now, without you adding more. And I gurantee you’ll probably be doubling prices due to this new folly…..
