Disney’s Cinderella (2015) is one of those live-action films with the rarest execution showcasing of narrative that follows closely towards that of the original animated film (1950) while distinguishing itself from it with new situations, so I can’t immediately say that I like the direction Bob Iger is taking Disney regarding their live-action projects in general. However, with this in mind, I have questions worth the consideration….
Given the popular reception of the Frozen series so far, would it really be fair for a live-action adaptation of such a title to follow up so soon? Also, given the poor reception of Asha from Wish (2023), exactly thirteen years since the presentation of a quirkier Rapunzel from Tangled (2010), would it really be fair for characters like the two, along with Moana (2016), and even characters outside the main roster like Riley from Inside Out (2015) and Mei Lee from Turning Red (2022), to consist as focal selling points, potentially for any future live-action projects?
Most importantly, while Lilo and Stitch (2002) has suddenly been given a growing reception for a potential staple of new iconography for the now mult-billion-dollar giant, as of 2023, it’s been exactly 21 years since that film’s production. Such reception is only recent compared to that of the one memorable character whom I am absolutely sure there are Disney fans quite like I who have come to know and love since childhood. The loony ol’ mouse’s classic model may have finally been released to the public, but even as I see him now, I do not believe anyone outside Disney’s borders, including I, can so easily meddle with Mickey’s character. Just earlier this week, I’ve learned something very cunning about Walt Disney’s presentation of the mouse – mainly that the very quirk that I have found from the characters mentioned above and more is the quirk that has frequently occurred within Mickey himself…, almost as if Disney unknowingly predicted this new roster that would suddenly come to be developed almost a whole century after Mickey’s reception! To that end, while Bob Iger is trying to figure out whether or not anymore live-action films can be further developed, has he finally forgotten where Disney’s magic and wonder all began? Has Iger’s current business practice actually misled Disney and their creatives away from the iconography that once was? Only time will tell….
