It’s been a long road, but X-Men 97 will finally be premiering soon on Disney+. The animated series aims to bring Marvel’s iconic X-Men team back to the forefront, and while it won’t specifically affect anything within the current Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it remains one of the most exciting Marvel projects to date.
The series will premiere on March 20, 2024, after years of issues. Originally announced in November of 2021, X-Men 97 was affected by multiple delays, with the actor’s and writers’ strike during the summer of 2023 taking a major toll on the production of the show. Thankfully, fans only have to wait a few more weeks before the wild cast of characters is on their home televisions.
However, one of the most interesting details about the show is its raising, which was recently confirmed by Disney itself.

According to the official series page on Disney+, X-Men 97 has been given a TV-14 rating, a far cry from X-Men: The Animated Series’ TV-Y7 rating.
This rating comes with the “Parents Strongly Cautioned” warning, and though the exact details of the new show are not available, we can assume X-Men 97 was given this rating due to violence and possibly mild language.
A portion of the official content warning is shared below:
This program may contain one or more of the following: intensely suggestive dialogue (D), strong coarse language (L), intense sexual situations (S), or intense violence (V).

According to Showrunner Beau DeMayo, the series will be a continuation. “Okay, we’re gonna be picking up about several months after Professor X left Earth after being shot by Henry Gyrich and had to return to the Shiar homeworld to be with Lilandra. And what ends up happening is that assassination attempt has led to this wave of increased sympathy towards mutants and understanding.”
X-Men 97 marks Disney’s first real foray into the world of Marvel’s X-Men, with more multiverse shenanigans on the way with Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Since launching in 2019, Disney+ has become the unofficial home for all things Marvel, with dozens of films available to stream 24/7 from the comfort of your own home. However, Disney+ is also a haven for fans of other globally recognized properties, such as National Geographic, Star Wars, Lucasfilm, and Pixar.
Fans can easily spend hours just searching through the streaming service’s impressive catalog, which features movies stretching all the way back to 1937. Some of the most popular content on the platform includes The Mandalorian and Andor, both from the world of Star Wars, as well as Marvel’s Wandavision and, more recently, Secret Invasion.
