I grew up watching all the animated Disney classics and I believe that their stories are fine the way they are. I’m so sick of everyone wanting to change things because of what’s changing in the world. Those classic were, and still is, a big hit with everyone. Like the saying goes, if it’s not broke don’t fix it. Leave the story lines alone.

      1. Phillip

        Agreed

So well said. I’m so sick and tired of the entertainment industry catering to a much too sensitive public. If they don’t like it they don’t have to watch it, but the stories are classic and have survived decades without being changed. There’s no need to start doing it now.

    2. Dave

I agree. I am afraid of change as well.

Please don’t ever offer different versions of the things I like.

I love Coca-Cola and believe Coke Zero should be banned!

Exactly thank you for saying that. You took the words right out of my mouth. I will never see that remake. Disney world need to recast the lead actress with one who has skin as white as snow and lips as red as blood hair as black as coal, bring back the 7 dwarves and include the live scene. If that doesn’t happen I’ll make it a point to skip that film and tell all my friends and family what an abomination it is so they can skip it.

    4. Elizabeth Dowda

Absolutely I will not be seeing that trash it’s not even bc remotely like the original
The lead actress doesn’t look anything like Snow White she is obnoxious unlikable not to mention annoying

Classics should never be changed. They are a basis for good moral values. Morals should never be controlled by politics or personal agendas. If Disney was really smart, they would view the actual statistics, which, by the way, is the voice of the people currently.

It has been now for Disney, “the tail wagging the dog.“

Classics ARE changed. You think the versions you know are ORIGINALS. They’re original to you maybe but they’re based on still earlier iterations.

      1. Jimbo Jones

Films aren’t video games, where you can issue patches and updates. Lucas got roasted for adding CGI because people could tell the difference. Stop trying to gas light people into liking subpar remakes.

      2. Saga Roos

classics are just changed in a way that makes people in different times understand them. Not changed in the way that the whole morality becomes different. That’s what Disney is doing right now. If the morality is not the same, then it is not the same story. You can call it what you want but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s not the same story if the point of the story is changed.

        1. Saga Roos

the thing I wrote was to Jenni

Throw the remake in the trash. Be creative again and design wonderful NEW movies and characters. Where us the ingenuity? Where is the magic?

    3. Dave

I agree. We should go back and read the Bible in original Greek. There’s is no need to remake the classics. Down with the KJV!

I think the whole concept of the’reimagining department’ is a complete disgrace to the Disney legacy. Granted, many of the great classics are based on old tales with their own twist. That does not mean these same stories need to be remade. What I want is more original ideas. Find other stories to reimagine rather than rehashing great work that’s already done. By the same company. Go back to imagineering, like Walt intended.

    1. Dave

I agree. One twist is all a story should have. Never should a second version be made.

Demand for “diverse and progressive storytelling”…..how clueless and out of touch can you be?

    1. TrashPanda

Exactly the point I was going to make. The box office should show them how big the demand is for “diverse and progressive storytelling.”

      1. DrPhill

For goodness sake, bring back Song of the South! The greatest live action/animation film ever!
        Zippity Doo Da!

If Disney wants to make revisions to “classic” stories, then go back to the original literature as published and make those.

    1. Pazu

Yes! or other untouched pieces of litterature that have proven to be classics. But they (Disney) are playing super safe, and are so afraid of failure, it’s really pathetic when you think about it. They have lost Walt Disney’s vision and passion, and have become a souless company that is all about making money for the sake of making money. Instead for making money for the sake of making better films.

I watched the live action Aladdin remake yesterday evening, but to me it was unbearable, and such an eye-sore. I could sense a total lack of passion and love from those who made it. No craft at all, just pure souless execution. It was just bleh, and I coudn’t finish it. Even the singers sucked so bad. They can’t even manage to record good singers, this is quite scary to think people would approve such projects.

I’m not saying the artists behind the movie suck, but the direction is the one who makes the final decision and they suck.

    2. Jimbo Jones

You think they’re going to show a woman in incredible pain and turning into sea foam (little mermaid), or a Mary Sue who can effortlessly handle every challenge?

  6. Oh really

There is plenty of cultural material to create diverse and progressive stories. Just blackwashing classics is lazy and disrespectful to all.

  7. Cheryl C

Disney continues down this live action slippery slope. I get it, animation takes longer. However the live action remakes are lazy and awful. Try an original idea!

  8. Kira

Leave the films alone! I love the animated films just as they are.I agree that if someone doesn’t like a movie, then they should and not have to watch it. It happens everyday, if I don’t like a movie or shoe I DON’T watch it. I don’t scream to company or cry about it, I change the channel or don’t turn the channel off. My television even has a off button.

    1. Dave

You mean people can choose not to watch a film without posting online like a keyboard warrior? Wow! That’s a pretty progressive idea. Make more people should try this.

  9. Jimbo Jones

They don’t understand that telling “diverse and creative STORIES” doesn’t mean telling the same story but with different PEOPLE. Live action The Little Mermaid missed a golden opportunity to tell an existing, ACTUAL African folk tale about mermaids because that would involve (gasp) risk, creativity, and a high level of competency. South Park called it.

  10. DrPhill

“audience preferences and a growing demand for diverse and progressive storytelling.”
Good grief Andrew, how out of touch can you possibly be. “Diverse and progressive (woke) storytelling” is exactly the opposite of what fans want from Disney Inc.

  11. I agree where is the creativity and imagination that was Walt Disney. Stick with what has made the company. Animation. IF you can come up with an original idea for live action do it. But main focus should be on the US Parks and animation films.

  12. Godmother

WHAT “growing demand for diverse and progressive storytelling” ?!?…..

Looks to me by the box-office numbers that THERE IS NO DEMAND!!

Say it with me, ALL TOGETHER NOW:

    GET WOKE-GO (REALLY) BROKE!!

  13. Ed Marks

I get upset every time Disney decides to make a live action movie based upon an original animated film of theirs. It really makes me upset when they start being woke and having to replace a main character such as in The Little mermaid with someone from a different race just to make people happy. If the character in the animated film was african-american, then the character in the live action remake should also be African-American. I feel that Disney makes these movies not to further the story and only to make extra money.
