Disney, open your eyes, with all the cyber criminality going on, do you really think going cashless is the way to go?
Your internet there is horrible, I have come down 23 years in a row and it hasn’t gotten any better over the years. I will take my cash elsewhere where it will be appreciated. Yes, I have a cell phone, yes I pay for things with it but I also pay cash because I feel more accountable with how much I spend that way. I hate people walking around with their nose stuck in a phone, so impolite and uncalled for.

I agree. I own two cell phones and I only use them in emergencies!!!

  2. I hate anything mobile pay!! I Use cash.

Problem I run into is your as an annual passholder it doesn’t allow you to use your pass. Also I buy gift cards to save money which you can’t use at any mobile app

    2. Kat

Absolutely hate mobile pay. We have always bought Disney gift cards to use at check out or used cash. Sick of Disney abusing us so they can save money on having less employees.

Have to replace the cast members Igor fired with something.

I use gift card do not have smartphone not going to purchase one just to go to Disney. As a stock honor this is unacceptable!

Cash is king as they say. But with all the cyber crime and information stolen, I use nothing but cash! If Disney doesn’t want my money, I can go elsewhere, not an issue!

  5. Jeffery

I will not shop at any place that bans cash, ever

  7. Ugh

It’s to save on payroll. Nothing more. Sad.

  8. Steve

Cash is king and if not yet will soon be the law. All stores will be mandated to accept cash.

I was at The Disney store in Disney springs, and yes we saw the mobile check out, but they also had the regular check out service. But they also had about 20 checkers. They have the space, Disneyland doesn’t. They should keep the check outs.

What’s going to stop people from putting stuff in the bag and walking out without using the app to pay?! It is going to cause so much shrinkage! And what if their are tags on clothes, who is going to remove those?!

    1. Correct Karla. As Walmart is finding they are loosing money from self check as people just bag and go. Has been 5 years since I have been to Disney. Not sure I want to go again. I was going about every year in the 90′ & 2000″s. Raised prices where not sure can afford to go now. They have taken so much away, free fast passes, Magical Express and package delivery of purchases to the resorts (not sure if that was reinstated or not) Or in very early days packages would be taken to front of park for pickup as you left the Park. Who wants to buy stuff and carry around all day. Some things were only in certain area, if you wanted it you had to buy at that store. Disney Magic. is really disappearing. Sounds like will need to check out Universal parks.

I was pleased to see someone mention disabled people. My daughters can not use mobile phone they have hard Time managing the phone. They can’t use mobile check out. They use Disney gift cards or I use my debit card. I hope Disney recognizes this and will have a cashier on site like target.

I don’t work for stores and expect my purchases to be treated like I am a customer. It pays your salary and a good cashier and employees know that.

I find it hard to be on the phone at the parks. We stop and use it. Others walk and use it. They don’t get a wheelchair with a person in it is over 200 pounds and not able to stop or turn like a stroller. People on phones have stopped in front of us because of their face is in a phone . Sorry I hit you but walking in front of us or stopping abruptly can get someone hurt.

Disney….. When are you going to learn! Your DEI and WOKE agenda has already lost you some of your fam base. Your pricing is out of control. Keep
it up and your parks will empty.

I know someone that protests cash-less businesses but gathering a large quantity of item to purchase, then leaving them at the till if cash is not accepted as payment.

  15. Robin

I hate self-check out at Walmart, I hate having to be on my phone constantly on vacation. Not going to do it Disney. Your wifi sucks. I see no good coming from this….next will be guards at the doors checking that you paid for purchases. Guess I won’t be shopping there anymore.

  16. Nick B

Why does this author focus on saying it’s a cash ban and Disney is trying to remove cash, when that wouldn’t be a big deal. Instead should focus on removing the staff and forcing mobile pay, which is the big PIA.

  17. Dave Winkler

Some people can’t do credit cards and your taking there expensive away from enjoying a good vacation

  18. Walter Elkins

    Hate it….. Greedy ….

  19. brenda

i’ve been saying this for years… i hate having to use my phone for everything @ Disney. when i’m on vacation i don’t want to HAVE to use my phone for everything.
    Disney PLEASE do better

I do like mobile ordering at quick service food places. However mobile checkout in gift shops is another challenge. It is an invitation to shoplift. And if there are security tags you have to wait on line anyway. RFID would speed up the checkout process.

For me, going up to a counter for a cast member at a register has always been part if the Disney experience. They would smile and greet you, and we could see their name tag and where they originally came from. It was fun and part of that Disney Magic environment. Going up to a self checkout??? It would take all of that away.

And as others have already mentioned, being on your phone will interfere with the “FAMILY” bonding because parents will be paying too much attention to their phones and not enjoying their whole family experience. Plus people walking while on their phones…ugh!

Let families enjoy one another while on vacation and use their phones to capture memories by using them to take pictures.

Hi, former emporium cast member here… thats not why they closed that reg… it closed during the holidays to accommodate the party exclusive merch and the lines for it! Then they realized that not having the register there actually made peak busy times easier in that room… it had nothing to do with getting rid of cash! Just making getting through the emporium easier on the guests!

We have been over dozen times and always use cash very rarely charged anything other than paying resort we stay in. Disney is cutting their own throats and I guess the reason is so they can continue pay ceo outrageous salary.
