I can’t wait to see what is coming in the future for all Disney fans!!

    1. Larry

      More disappointments, I believe

  2. Chris

There may not be anyone left to visit theme parks after 2024. Disney should focus on building Mickey-themed fallout shelters.

    1. How about Focusing on good story telling.

  3. Based

Good luck you ruined your brand… Good thing you’re moving to public domain you’re going to need that to keep the brand going…

    1. Janet S.

What do you mean? What brand is ruined? I don’t understand.

      1. Annette

They don’t know what they’re talking about.

Mickey can’t leave Orlando. He is still a Disney character. I mean, sure, he’s in the public domain now, but he’s still a Disney character so don’t wanna move him or Minnie from Orlando. Imagine what it would do to the kids there. Mickey Minnie can’t leave Orlando. There’s still Disney characters. There’s still a part of Disney. Again, sure, doing the public domain, But they are still a part of Disney. Please don’t remove them from the parks, please, please, please! I’m begging you! 🙏🏾 🙏🏾🙏🏾

This is what the Florida governor wants, but that’s not what this is talking about. Don’t worry, it’s not an actual move.

      1. Madmike

        Get out demorat

      2. AH

The governor does not want them to go. Good Lord!

    2. Erica E Brodie

You’ve got to be kidding me first it was a rumor or a joke about the break up between Mickey and Minnie and Mickey’s with Dasiy now.and now they’re getting rid of Mickey and Minnie from Orlando Florida theme parks this has got to be another joke? Getting rid of Mickey and Minnie is like getting rid of Donald and Dasiy duck from Disney all together. Mickey and Minnie are my favorite Disney characters without them you miles well say goodbye to Orlando Florida Disney theme parks then forever.

Did IQ’s drop sharply in the last 20 years? Mickey mouse isn’t in the public domain the FIRST version of him is. Steamboat willy mickey is. Why do you think they redesigned him 100 times over? It’s because everytime they do its a renewing of a mickey mouse as a character they can copyright for 100 years. You can use the design of that first mickey but call it mickey mouse and you’ll see his fiercest design dressed like an extremely high powered attorney.

    4. AH

Ricky in the steam boat willy incarnation is in the public domain. The rest of his versions are not.

    5. Lusa

Mickey is not really public domain other than in his original form.

Why do they say “leaving”? Disney is not leaving! They are “expanding to other locations! This site just tries to stir up controversy! This site is not a complete source of truth for sure!

  6. Tyler bradley

Mickey is there friend mickey can’t leave Orlando

  7. Chris

Disney has multiple problems. They are too expensive first off. 5 day trip to Disney world is $4200. Universal is $2500, Discovery Cove is $2200. Discovery Cove, that’s even dolphin swim included.

Secondly, I have no desire to spend money in Florida with such a fascist government in place. I’ll spend my money elsewhere.

    1. Madmike

      Good stay away loser.

    2. Madmike

Good stay out. No one here likes tourists.

      1. DeSantis Stan

Tourism keeps your state taxes low/non-existent.

      2. Gary P

Tourist keep your Stste going. I’m sure you ho on vacation, thus becoming a tourist you loathe. OHHH It’s OK for you to be a tourist. Hypocrit.

    3. Steven

You’re charging apples to oranges. You do realize that the Universal Studios equivalent of Genie+ plus was well over $300 while people were complaining about Disney’s being over $30, right? They are different experiences, with different vague depending on you and your family.

However, you’re unfortunately correct that the fascist local government is seriously interfering in business and damaging capitalism, making trips to Florida very unattractive.

      1. AH

        Clueless about fascist.

    4. Sandra Wetzel

The only place in Florida I WILL go is Disney. Its success is a slap in the face to sucsantos.

      1. AH

No it’s success is not. Get your head out from where the sun don’t shine.

    5. AH

Obviously you have no clue what a fascist government is. It’s good you will not be there so there will less people there.

  8. Gary

That will not fly, Mickey will be at all Disney locations if Disney leadership wises up NOW !!

    1. Steven

I think you’re misunderstanding the article.

    2. Steven

I didn’t think you quite understand what they are talking about here.

  9. Mommom54

They never said Mickey and Minnie are leaving Disney World. They said Mickey and Minnie are going on a tour throughout the United States to ask people what is their favorite Disney memory. Not one word was said about them leaving the park.

    1. Denise

Thank you! Finally someone who reads the article before commenting.

Although in their defense, these are written simply to stir controversy and make it hard for people to really understand the truth

Disney sucks. I live in orlando and will never step foot in Disney. Universal blows Disney away.

    1. Janet S.

I’m curious what you like better about Universal? My grandkids like Disney better, but I think they’re both good.

    2. jo028229

You claim you will never set foot in Disney, yet you make a comparison with Universal. Have you stepped foot in Disney before? This would mean a required addition of again to your 2nd sentence or a disqualification of your comparison as mere speculation.

  11. Dave

I wonder if they are hinting at the Disney 100 Memorabilia tour that is supposed to be going across America. Supposedly a museum tour showing off different pieces of Disney memorabilia over the ages.

  12. jo028229

Sounds unlike a major move and just a public relations aimed at quality control and improving the Disney brand. This includes the parks, stores, and myriad of television programming Disney owns. The likelihood of moving out of Orlando, Anaheim, Tokyo, Paris, and other locales is low. Wanting to improve the brand, its image, and content is always high. A personal touch with filmed consumer involvement beats a filled out and filed suggestion and reply card any day.

As far as Disney characters and cartoons becoming public domain, there are other ways the company can safeguard them from public and commercial use. The company itself will never be public domain, so investors and loyal fans rest assured Mickey and Minnie et al will be here for the foreseeable future, unmolested, and as happy a place as you can make it.

You can freely use text quotes and character illustrations from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Disney also has an Alice in Wonderland which is protected by copyright laws. You would not be able to use Disney’s interpretation of the story. For example, the famous line by the White Rabbit “I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date!” is actually “Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!” in the original story. I’d be able to create a wood sign legally with the “Oh dear!” line but not the “I’m late!” line.

The children’s book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum is in the public domain. The Wizard of Oz film starring Judy Garland is not in the public domain. This means that you would be able to use quotes and images from the original book, but not from the movie.

It’s no secret that mermaids are trendy right now, so take advantage of being able to use The Little Mermaid story by Hans Christian Andersen. In the Hans Christian Andersen book, the mermaid has no name and doesn’t have underwater friends like Sebastian and Flounder.

The stories of Rapunzel, Snow White, and Cinderella were recorded by the Brothers Grimm. The stories existed long before the Grimms recorded them, being integral parts of German folklore. You cannot use Disney’s retelling of the stories.

Alladin was originally introduced in a work called The Arabian Nights and was set in China. You would be able to use the characters as they are portrayed in the original story – but not the Disney version.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is now in the public domain. Before Oswald the Lucky Rabbit came Pete the Cat. Pete the Cat debuted in a 1925 cartoon, Alice Solves the Puzzle. The original version of Pete the Cat entered the public domain in 1925.

The novel, Peter Pan, entered public domain in 2022. While the novel is public domain, the play will not enter the public domain until 2024. Be sure to base your products off of the original story, not Disney’s popular retelling.

In 2022, Winnie the Pooh and several of his friends became public domain. Like many other properties, only the original novel became public domain – not the Disney retelling. Tigger (the jumping tiger) was not introduced until a later story. He will not enter the public domain until 2024.

Also in 2022, Bambi entered into the public domain in the USA. Of course, the public domain property is based on the original novel by Felix Salten – not the Disney retelling of it.

Ebeneezer Scrooge from the classic Christmas story by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol, is in the public domain. Be sure to take inspiration from the original story, not one of the many retellings.

Many of the classic monsters are in the public domain. These include Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein, Phantom of the Opera, Creature from the Black Lagoon (film), and The Bride of Frankenstein (film). You cannot use modern day adaptations of these stories. Instead, create your own take on the original stories and characters.

As of 2023, all of Sir Arthur Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories are in the public domain.

The version of Mickey Mouse entering the public domain on 1 January 2024 is Steamboat Willie. The version of Minnie Mouse that is in the public domain is also the Minnie Mouse version introduced in Steamboat Willie.

Tigger (Winnie-the-Pooh) originally debuted in 1928 in The House at Pooh Corner, also entered the public domain in 2024.

no offense bro but you seem to have a lot of time on your hands

  14. This action won’t make any difference to mostly anyone. Disney is so extravagantly expensive now, it’s just not worth it. The parking, the lines, the cost of food. It’s all designed to drain visitors of their financial savings. Just not a customer friendly entity anymore.

  15. S.Tawbush

Why do they say “leaving”? Disney is not leaving! They are “expanding” to other locations! This site just tries to stir up controversy! This site is not a complete source of truth for sure!

  16. Gary

If there is no Mickey Mouse at Walt Disney World, Disney will see a backlash so much stronger than they have seen before, MARK MY WORDS IT WILL HAPPEN !!

  17. What I think is they are sending maybe the characters with staff to ask about people’s visits to the parks. To me sounds like a marketing project that will be used in ads. I didn’t take that they are building any parks in other stated. But should. More parks in other countries than USA. They still have room to expand in Orlando. The FL governor may not have the funds to keep going with his lawsuits. He needs to put Reedy back and go about being governor. Both sides made errors.
