No. Only the first three cartoons Plane Crazy Galoping Goucho and SteamBoat Willie are entering the public domain. The current version of Mickey Mouse is still being protected by Disney. So Stitch can not replace him.

They’re not really retiring Mickey are they?

Just horrified! As American patriot Patrick Henry said, “Give me liberty or give me death!, “Give me Mickey or give me death!” Two (or more) Thumbs Down to Stitch! Stitch is a nice character but he is not my Main Man Mickey!

Do you people not read😒 They aren’t retiring Mickey. A show is ending that he is in AND Mickey goes public in ’24. Geez. Give me liberty or …..maybe glasses or someone to read you all the article and help you understand?! Can you show your age any clearer and get any more dramatic for no reason😑They added into the article the increased popularity of Stitch. Disney isn’t asking you to choose. Stitch has always been popular. They are just pointing out that it seems he has become icreasingly more popular. But someone said it may have been bc the adults buying up the merch are now adults and are now introducing Stitch to their children. And I agree. My oldest loves Stitch. That is her movie. She has no kids but that was the 1st toy she bought her niece, my grandbaby. I buy her Snow White🤷‍♀️ that’s all this article is. Geez people. Mickey will always be the main mascot but Disney’s exclusive rights will be gone. Which mean now anyone can use him in the film world. So if your already talking about ‘give me liberty or give me death’ over not fully reading an article, your gonna have a rough new year🤷‍♀️

I agree with Darlene, I’m just adding, if you can’t read, the turn on your TV. It “reads” to you with pictures. And use a REAL NEWS syndicate, not FB, IG, TicToc, or any of those outlets.

I don’t care either way. It’s definitely not THAT serious.

  4. Hear! Hear! I so agree. Thank you for saying it so well.

Mickey will always be the face of Disney. Stitch is nice, but not the face of Disney.

We should always be proud of what Walt Disney and his family kept saying it all started by a mouse so it should permanently be remained like that because that’s how Disney is truly a birth of magic of anything for eternity forever there’s no need for retirement at all !!

    I totally agree

Mickey will always. Be popular I have grandkids 3 and 1 and they love all the mickey shows on Disney although I like stitch I think your exaggerating

      You’re*

  11. Skyler "Wolf"

I believe it should be Mickey and Minnie Mouse ven though my favourite characters is probably Aladdin, Genie, stitch, hades. But I believe it still think it should be Mickey Mouse and or Minnie Mouse because they’ve been around the longest in the Disney Universe.

If you think about it, Stitch is the easiest character for Disney to use to replace Mickey: He’s a newer but still hugely popular character with decades left on his copyright, who still has basically the same silhouette as Mickey, meaning they don’t have to change the Mouse Ears logo, they just need to get people to think of them as “Stitch Ears.”

Even the merch ears just need to be made in blue felt instead of the current black felt, and the rebrand is done

    1. Skyler "Wolf"

No. it has to be Mickey. I love Stitch too but it has Mickey.

  13. Skyler "Wolf"

But sure you can change mascot. Over my dead body.

  14. Shawn

Well if true Disney just lost my family as guests, never again!

    1. Jade VR

It’s far from true. Look into it, you’ll see that Disney is NOT retiring Mickey. This was even stated that he is not going to be replaced anytime soon, by Disney themselves. So keep that family loving Disney!

  15. Jade VR

The Steamboat Willy iteration of Mickey is becoming public domain, NOT the character himself.completely, as he is still a trademark character, meaning he in his present form cannot.be used without consent. Wish you guys would drop the tabloid style stories and go back to check real.facts and true info. Seriously…

  16. Dave

I agree with Mickey not retiring he was the 1st cartoon I ever saw in the Disney shows as a kid

  17. GT

What is it supposed to be? Why is it’s body all wrinkly but it’s had it smooth? Why do they call it stitch? Is it violent? It looks violent to me.

“It all started with a Mouse”
Who will be here forevermore…. getting people upset is how this site keeps people looking. Guess it works. As for Mr. “Woke”.. this site loves that type… its proven that there is good money to be made espousing hate.

  19. There needs to be a change in leadership that is destroying Disney from the inside! “It all stared with a mouse”!
Stay out politics and focus on building “Family” experiences.
Another park of WDW should be all that had been removed. Then you will get a huge “Return on invevestment.”

Mickey Mouse is becoming ‘public’ and can no longer be used as a ‘Trademark/Servicemark’. As of 1/0/2024 anyone can use the likeness.

    Mr. Disney must be turning in his grave!!!!!!;
