Some years ago, my girlfriend and I did visit Splendid China. Walking around was like being in a ghost town, and you could roll a bowling ball down the main street and not hit anyone. In fact, there were no people around, at all. While the park was a bust they did offer a good dinner show with beautiful, costumed dancers. The show was worth the price, and came as a surprise after the theme park. We never returned. Sad, very sad.
In the 80s in a cross country trip with my mom and aunt we visited Splendid China…we couldn’t understand how it would exist. But found it amazing with all the miniatures that we learned were created one piece by piece by hand. It was like visiting China as as giants.
My wife and I visited fairly frequently and brought out-of-town visitors too. The Hong Kong style Chinese restaurant was probably the best Chinese restaurant in Central Florida. I miss it.

Great read! Very interesting history about Orlando that I was unfamiliar with. It would be great to read more like this.
