If there ever was a character played by Keanu that was just awful, Constantine would be at the top of my list. All one need do to understand where I’m coming from is to simply read any Constantine story or graphic novel. Heck, just look at CW’s TV show by same name, or watch the animated versions of him as well. You can easily see the many, many, MANY differences between whatever Keanu thought he was doing, and what the actual character embodies. Trust me when I say that Keanu is really good at one character. You can see that in the Matrix, John Wick, Bill & Ted, Speed, etc. Keanu can knock that character out of the park. However when it comes to Constantine, he’s honestly not a good fit for the role. Granted, the story they opted to convey in that film also leaves a LOT to be desired. There could be any number of reasons the story was what it was, and it was really bad, but the casting in that film was just so incredibly wrong for so many reasons. I get that Gunn is desperate to completely revamp DC that he’s going full scorched Earth with every single character (even the outstanding ones like Gal) but I’m just blown away that he’s keeping the worst DC has to offer. In that I mean Ezra as the Flash and Keanu as Constantine…it’s almost like he wants it to completely fail.
