Additionally while desantis is out playing elect me for president the state of Florida is suffering catastrophic insurance crisis
Water woes and hurricane related issues
Recent reports indicate 275000 people have left the state due to this man
When he gets off the campaign trail and comes home a loser politics may very well destroy his career at next governors race
Can you spell Reedy Creek Development District?
You mean like the one that was just given to Universal Studios? I guess other businesses CAN get the same privileges as long as they lick Ron’s high heels boots.
Still going on, and DeSantis is running for the entire USA as President? How wrong when he is NOT doing a great job in Florida and has his own agenda, and also nipping at the company that keeps his state fed.
Sad that 1 man can cause such havoc in a business that has been running itself for years without major issues, and doing an excellent job at self governing.
Somebody needs to stop DeSantis before he destroys this state beyond repair. He has stopped our state from gaining millions (or billions) of dollars. God help us.
Unfortunately this is incorrect. Reedy Creek leaders are not responsible for decisions made regarding the company as a whole. Governor DeSantis punishing innocent small business owners and an entire community of local Floridians simply to support himself in running for President is deplorable.
It is never appropriate for a government to punish its people for one person’s political goals. And if you feel that it is sometimes appropriate for a government to punish its own people for that one person’s political goals, you do not belong in our great country of freedoms.
I think it is sad. Disney nurtured a decades-long mutually beneficial relationship with the state of Florida. Both supported each other, and both benefited. There were a few critical rules. For Disney, don’t cause any issues where the state would need to step in AND stay out of politics. Disney needed to be agnostic to who was in office. The state’s rules were to leave Disney alone and help them when asked. Win-win!
This worked until Disney became woke AND activist. Even though woke for years, the relationship continued to thrive due to Disney remaining politically agnostic. This changed when they became an activist corporation. The spark started with the falsely proclaimed “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Disney spoke out publically against this bill AND promised to get it overturned by pushing liberal/woke elections. This was a political GONG among Republicans in Florida. It also became a primary reason the Disney board fired CEO Bob Chapek, bringing back Bog Isner – sadly, the damage was done.
At this time, Ron Desantis was flexing to become President. Worse, the bill was NOT about not saying gay! It only stopped teachers from discussing alternative lifestyles from kindergarten to third grade. Many parents want to decide WHEN they speak to their children about this topic – this gives parents that right – until fourth grade. Pushing this false narrative further angered Republican elected officials. They were under attack by a company they had trusted!
From there, it snowballed. With most Floridians angry with Disney, Desantis read the poll numbers and went all in. Disney was unrepentant and went all in – backed by employees and a strong woke culture. What should have happened is Disney apologizing for interjecting themselves into politics and Florida backing down and allowing Ready Creek to remain in place. A strong Governor with Presidential aspirations and a radical woke culture at Disney blinded all sides from common sense.
In today’s environment, going too far to the right or left leaves one side ANGRY – very ANGRY. When a company goes too far, the other side will boycott – look at Bud Light. With a large percentage of the country on each side, staying in the middle and agnostic is where companies flourish. If they stray to one side, they will alienate a large amount of the client base. Disney has suffered massive losses at the box office due to horrible and woke-focused movies. I just watched The Little Mermaid and was disappointed. While Halley Balley did a great job acting, her singing was mediocre (the original soundtrack was vastly better). And therein is the problem. IMO, Disney hired the BEST colored actress versus the BEST actress. The Disney product has become political and subpar versus top-notch.
Lastly, many people in the country feel Disney does not represent their values. In fact, they feel Disney is trying to indoctrinate their children. This is seen not only in low theater attendance and low subscriptions for Disney+ but also in park attendance. Remember, when a company goes far to one side, the other is ANGRY – VERY ANGRY.
In conclusion, this new Florida Tourism Organization is only a symptom. They hate Disney, and Disney hates them. Both sides need to learn how to work together. Focus more on the middle and stay out of politics. Focus on product versus ideology. Only then will this get fixed. Both sides are at fault, and both sides need each other.
This is drawing a false correlation. All employees of Disney are not employees of CFTOD. It is important to find the total number of district leaders to more accurately reflect the proportion of people leaving.
This is very well said on multiple accounts. However I firmly disagree that any company should be politically agnostic. Unfortunately this is impossible when career politicians are supported by commercial interests and lobbying; politicians have created an inextricable link between the political systems and large businesses, but now get angry when the machine they created begins acting on the way that they have allowed.
A business should act at the direction of its customers, employees, and shareholders. This is what Disney did.
I am now 83 yrs old and have been going to Disney World just about every year and sometimes twice a year since they opened , I always thought the the District was one of the best run I have every seen, I live in Texas with a lot of Districts that are not run as well as Disney, I was a Desantis fan but now a little bit less, to get in a fight over A Gay issue is just Stupid, there has been “Gay Days” at Disney World For years, Never bothered me
You know what makes children not smile? Being deprived of comfort, support, and guidance by trusted individuals like teachers and having safe homes to live in. Unfortunately Gov DeSantis continues gutting our schools while ignoring horrible insurance problems that eliminate all these things for our children. Meanwhile he thinks that everyone else is going to “make the kids gay” by simply saying that gay people exist.
Funny… There were once people who thought leprosy caused black skin. Do we now think that a word might turn people gay? I guess Gov DeSantis and his supporters haven’t come very far
I don’t know how you can say the employees that left were the “woke” ones when you’re talking about 350+ years of f combined experience leaving the district. Plus the back office dealings, one came to light with the 911 system which was cancelled shortly after the story saw the light. DeSantis is a DESTROYING not just this District but this State!!! Homeowners Insurance has escalated, prices continue to increase, etc but wages are still not there to support these increases!! If this continues, Florida’s Tourism will come to a grinding halt because there won’t be anyone in the service industry or in the jobs to keep the tourist engine running because they can’t AFFORD to live here ANYMORE! DeSantis has and will continue to be a Gov or part of the GOP that hates the Sunshine Laws and always seeking the next office and the HELL with the constituents. The GOP & DeSantis figures keeps feeding them what they want to hear and they’ll keep their heads in the sand and be blind to what we’re doing.
This is exactly right. This malicious takeover by a governmental entity represents all the worst things that happen in communist countries like what Russia, China, North Korea. I have always been proud of our incredible freedoms that we enjoy in the United States, a freedom from oppression… But here we find a governor using oppression as a weapon to further his own political interests.
It’s so sad to see how far we’ve fallen, simply because we can’t allow people to live their lives and let business do their work.
Somebody needs to stop DeSantis before he destroys this state beyond repair. He’s using our tax money to fund his campaign. His choices are terrible. He needs to be removed from his government position. He has tainted our state. He certainly is not wanted as the president of the United States.
And don’t forget that he changed the law so that we can’t even see where that money is going and what his travel looks like. That sounds like a dictator to me…
“He’s using our tax money to fund his campaign.” That statement is silly. Presidential campaigns (especially Republican candidates) are audited over and over and over. You would have to prove to me that he is using your tax money to fund his campaign. Florida is doing very well. He and Florida are being attacked by both sides. Trump supporters despise him for the audacity of running against him and Democrats despise him for being a very successful Republican governor from a huge electoral state.
“Successful” would be a poor way to describe a state in which people are losing their insurance.
Please remember that when there was historic flooding in Fort Lauderdale, Governor DeSantis was rallying support for his presidential campaign in another state. That might not be a direct misuse of taxpayer funds, but it is absolutely an abuse of his position and a misuse of his time that we pay him for.
Furthermore, it is rich that you describe transparency through audits, when he changed the laws in our state, which previously had some of the greatest transparency of any state. Sad that we can’t see where he’s actually going and what he’s actually doing…
DeSantis is not going to be the President especially if he tries to win Florida. Hey DeSantis, you need to stop using Florida taxpayers’ money to have security protection while you’re out trying to be President. How many other special districts are still operating?
No, for the most part is Disney getting away from Walt’s vision to Woke with the help of some of the top leadership. So that is a huge reason why long time CM’s have retired early and others have left !!

While I agree with DeSantis’ characterization of Disney going woke regarding the education bill, stripping RCID of its powers is government overreach.
M.J.
Keep in mind, it was “the power of government ” that gave them the special privileges that other businesses and citizens could not get.

Well said. Not to mention, Disney employs 75,000 people. 40 employees represent .05 %. Another attempt to make a mountain out of a grain of sand.
