I definitely think that he overstepped his power, and is vindictive against anything that is said against him…if Disney pulls out is he going to pay all the 100,000 employees that are directly or indirectly accociated with Disney? The answer is no..he is wasting taxpayers money on all of the lawsuits against him…

    1. Steenertoo

      100% agree!

    2. John L

      Agree 100%

    3. Donna Gorman

Agree 100 percent! DeSantis has overstepped in so many ways.

      1. Dave

Rhonda is in way over his head. Bullying is his only political strength. Dave

      2. Lois

He can’t be trusted he is a small, angry man. He definitely overstepped.

    4. Ed

You don’t need Disney. Teach your children the Bible, about real true love. Don’t teach them religion. Religion is all man-made. Loving God involves a relationship. It is a relationship that exalts God and His righteousness. Religion exalts man and man’s supposed righteousness, which is false righteousness. God is good. Man is not good. Man us a sinner who needs a Savior. Even Governor DeSantis needs a Savior. We all do. Quit judging the Governor. Quit judging sinners. Judge yourself. Let God judge the sinner. And let earthly judges judge the criminals here in our country. And love your precious little children. They don’t need fake Disney who takes your hard-earned money. Your children needs what is real. They need YOU.

      1. Joknows

your children need to learn what is real–you clearly aren’t leveling with them.

      2. Phil

Ed, Which “bible” do you recommend? God, I’d hate to be your child and grow up with such a distorted, narrow view of life and of the people around me.

      3. JL

Disney only takes your money if you want to visit it. They are not twisting your arm to force you to do something you don’t want to do. Zip it. I read the Bible it has nothing to do with Disney. Disney is Entertainment. It appears you don’t care for Entertainment. Who are you to say what is real or not. Your post sounds far off the wall. More like that of a Religeous Zealot. No one who goes to WDW goes & tells there Children this is real everything else is fake. WDW is a place for young and old. A make believe universe to help people get away from the humdrum chaotic world we live in today.

  2. Nadine

The governor and legislature have overstepped on this issue from day one.

    1. Don Marshall

The RCID was a subdivision of the state of Florida, not Disney or WDW. The state has the right and the authority to elimimate any of its subdivisions that are not constitutionally mandated. For instance, the state has the authority to disolve municipalites but not counties; as all or nearly all municipalites are a creation of the legislature. Whereas, counties are nearly always a creation of the state constitution. The same holds for RCID, it was a creation of the state legislature and therefore, the state has the right and authority to disolve the RCID.

The creation of the Central Florida Tourism Distict has the potential to be a great creation for the future of central florida. The CFTD should consider expanding to include Universal Studios, Seaworld, and other areas that are tourist heavy areas. The additional funds could be used to improve transportation and travel between the three main theme park areas and the main areas where the tourist stay when visiting, including major short term rental areas.

A board with some vision could truly improve the vacation experience for the entire region. The overwhelming number of tourist who go to at least two of the main theme park areas would justify the expansion.

      1. Phil

That’s a wonderful but deluded defense of DeSantis’ and his puppet legislature’s actions. Have you ever heard of the Contracts Clause of the U.S. Constitution? Are you aware of the First Amendment’s protection of a person’s (and that includes corporations) right to speak freely with very few restrictions? Are you aware that Central Florida would still be a tourist wasteland if Walt Disney hadn’t picked it for Disney World. This isn’t a chicken and egg scenario – Disney came first. Are you aware that there are several hundred or perhaps several thousand special districts similar to Reedy Creek in the State of Florida? Daytona Raceway is just one. Why was the legislation tailored to just hit Disney? Perhaps you can answer that. I have an answer. The little dictator DeSantis and his hurt ego. Perhaps if Charlie Chaplin was still around he could portray him in a movie.

      2. Janet S.

That sounds like an amazing idea! Too bad Governor DeSantis was so focused on urgently doing this purely to achieve the perception of a political victory to gain votes rather than focusing on what might be a good thing for our state.

  3. Alane

Yes. Our juvenile governor acts like an entitled spoiled brat while pandering to his base. Meanwhile his incompetent hand-picked fellow haters on the board that replaced Reedy Creek are destroying the state’s biggest tourist business while putting the district residents and visitors as risk of harm and death.

    1. Julie

I agree with you, Anne. He is definitely a spoiled brat. I can’t wait for the next election. Hopefully he’ll be voted out by a landslide by a normal human.

  4. Anne

DeSantis is a bully plain and simple. He is a wanna be dictator that is trying to destroy very happily existing districts that Disney has controlled for decades and has been a major money maker for Florida and a major employer. DeSantis is out to bankrupt Florida between turning down Federal funds that would help infrastructure and Floridians

  5. Pamela Wright

DeSantis needs that cool his role I mean give it a break DeSantis getting a little sick of your playing God with our state and our tax money

  6. peterparker22

    Sure.

  7. Walt

Don’t need to read any more rubbish once I reached the word “far right candidate”. This crap becomes SO tiresome.

    1. Jeri

I agree, whatever this news? agency is it isn’t reporting unbiased information.

      1. Joseph J Doelker

Are you Dopey or Goofy? Hmmm, could the URL be helpful in understanding the apparent bias? insidethemagic.net is a Walt Disney blog website. Full of news for Disney employees and fans.

Desantis would be correctly labeled far right as he is definitely not moderately right wing, a moderate centrist, or any slant towards the left. It isn’t necessarily bias if it can be shown as fact. I would not expect a Disney blogger to try to defend Desantis or the Florida legislature about the attack on Disney, since they do seem to be in the wrong in so many ways in their handling of Disney’s negativity about one of their cultural bills signed into law. Especially the retaliatory legal recourse which has brought about the lawsuit which Florida taxpayers get to pay for the governor and legislature’s defense and add-in the new board for the district’s lawsuit as well. One would want the Federal case decided 1st because it could end both lawsuits, rendering the state lawsuit moot.

  8. Wade Bell

While I enjoy the entertainment and recreational value of Walt Disney World, I will not tolerate the company’s effort to influence our educational system toward extremist woke issues that speak against moral values held for generations going back to our country’s founding, I’ll continue to enjoy the parks, but I will 100% support Governor Desantis and his efforts regarding Reedy Development.

    1. Phil

So, you believe censorship and banning of books and free speech is the thing you want your children to learn in Social Study and History classes. Sounds like Germany in the 1930s and early ’40s to me.

    2. Janet S.

These aren’t moral issues. They’re issues of humanity. And it is every business’s right to have an opinion.

Should the NRA stop funding candidates? Should not pharmaceutical companies stop paying lobbyists? Firearm mortality and prescription drug access are moral issues for some, so I guess businesses should stay out!

  9. John

    De Santis should be impeached

  10. Natalie Arter

I don’t want Florida taxpayers funding the governor’s unconstitutional lawsuits against Disney and others.

  11. Anthony Lang

    Unsanitary Desantis!

  12. Floyd Robertson

The Governor said nothing improper or wrong. Those critical obviously did not read the other items he mentioned with the prison statement, all good reasons. The Dems and pro gender ilk use every excuse to bad mouth a great Governor and that is what they do, simply because he comes across as a regular good guy and they don’t like it.

    1. Joseph J Doelker

DYK the land he was remarking about is a conservancy that lies off Pleasant Hill Road in Kissimmee/Poinciana and undeveloped land in the flood plain of Reedy, Bonnet, and Shingle Creek? Do you remember flooding reports after Ian? Think Good Samaritan Retirement Village. Connected areas.

      1. Janet S.

DeSantis doesn’t care about flooding, remember? He was out of state politicking when Ft. Lauderdale had historic flooding. Then turned down federal money to make flood protection improvements. And doesn’t care about Floridians losing insurance.

I guess he thinks flooding is too woke and can’t believe in it.

        1. Daisy Marie

“Woke” is DeSantis’ pet word for anything he doesn’t like or doesn’t fit into his grand vision of an authoritarian utopia. He has an agenda and I don’t think our opinions as Floridians matter. Perhaps these high home owners insurance premiums, property taxes and home prices are okay with him. It will weed out the middle class families who can’t afford to live here and he will be left with America’s rich and Russia’s oligarchs. Probably no need for Disney World then.

  13. Tom V

It’s time for the Court to issue a verdict and stop all this foolishness. Disney should stick to entertainment and shut up about politics. We don’t need to be reminded of their views. Just do what Walt did. ENTERTAIN US!!! DeSantis is entitled to his opinion and everything in between is just horse hockey. Move on!!!

    1. Joseph J Doelker

Tom V: nice ignorance of the law. Desantis can have his opinion. Disney can have a differing opinion. This is true of free speech. Government is not allowed to create legislation singling out a company for retaliation should they say something or do something a legislator dislikes. This is what Desantis and the FL legislators did. Then spent months in front a camera bragging about it. This is the reason why a federal court should issue a verdict favorable for Disney and why Desantis’ $750+/ hr lawyers keep trying to get the lawsuit dismissed or push it down the road. A Disney favored verdict would make the state lawsuit moot as all decisions by the state concerning the district would be reverted back to before the Don’t Say Gay discussion.

No district change, no monorail and ride inspections, no change in the benefits package, etc.

      1. MJ

I totally agree with you! Desantis is too much of a wanna-be dictator, and for Disney to disagree with one of his edicts just proved to be too much. I can’t stand him, since he made all kinds of restrictive laws and then ran off to run for president while ignoring his state. I do hope Disney wins!

    2. Janet S.

So DeSantis is entitled to an opinion, but not Disney is not? You better move to Russia, because that sounds like socialism. Our country is founded on capitalism, pure and simple. It’s a first amendment right to express a different opinion from the government.

  14. Bren

Glad you aren’t a defense lawyer for Desantis. You literally just proved the point Disney is suing him for. They have a right to their opinion just like he has a right to his opinion, just like you have a right to your opinion, just like I have a right to my opinion. Now if my opinion does not match your opinion, does that mean I should be silenced? This is not only one may have an opinion, but not the other if they disagree. Then it becomes a free speech matter if the one who disagrees is silenced. Time for a lot of people to read up on the real laws, and what they truly mean. But thanks for the laugh!

  15. Paul T

DeSantis is a moron! Who in their right mind would pick a fight with the largest employer in the state? He is costing Florida taxpayers MILLIONS of dollars in tax revenue with his petty, hate-filled policies which are clearly unconstitutional! He is a power-hungry evil politician who is pandering to the radical far-right base for votes!

    1. Janet S.

He doesn’t care about Florida or our its citizens

  16. I think DeSantis over stepped the boundaries. He is, in my opinion, a bully. His views are puritanical. He is entitled to his opinion but he is forcing his views on everyone. The people should decide, not him.

  17. Debbie

100% agree DeSantis overstepped his boundaries. I think he has done a great job for Florida, but thinking about putting his hat in for Pres., I believe he thought being “tough” on the liberal thinking of glorifying LBGT . . . at Disney, and endorsing “woke ” by reinventing classic Disney Movies to make that life of the LBGT. . . needed to he shown as acceptable.

  18. What the governor did is great and the right move. No businesses, person, or company should support fags and lesbos and trannys. You are what god man you anything else is a mental disorder and you need to be in an asylum

    1. Janet S.

Yep, no business should ever express a political opinion! Tell that to the NRA! Perhaps you should move to a communist country if you genuinely believe that.

  19. Stuart Pressman

Is Desantis representing the citizens of Florida who elected him or is he representing his own self interests? In a world with two wars taking place simultaneously, collapsing economies, global warming, etc, Desantis wants to pick a fight with the one place that creates a uplifting escape for people worldwide. Not to mention he’s costing the state a boatload of money and chasing away corporations that brought in huge tax dividends.

  20. Tara

DeSantis is a bully!! He doesn’t care that if Disney pulls out. Thousands of people will lose their jobs or follow Disney and move!! He isn’t representing the citizens of Florida. He only cares about himself!! He is an idiot!!

  21. George Childs

The taxpayers of which counties will now be forced to pick up the bill for all the services Reedy Creek provided?

    1. Janet S.

      Thanks DeSantis! (For nothing)
