Wait…is this for real? Oh, I’m not complaining; Br’er Rabbit is actually my personal favorite Disney character! I think his cuteness mixes well with his mischievous personality.
If you watch it and don’t like it just turn it off. If you’re offended by it, so what. Nothing happens to you. Life goes on as usual. Watch something else that makes you happy, problem solved.
Song of the South absolutely will be released to Blu-Ray and re-released in theaters again. Either Disney will be mandated to do so by Uncle Sam, or I will be doing it after my takeover of Disney if it hasn’t already been done beforehand. Disney fans will celebrate its release and sing Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah together. I mean what else is going to happen? There will be boycotts against Disney products in protest? Protests outside the parks and the Disney Studios? I’ll be facing the wrath of a furious Oprah or Spike Lee?
Yes, I think it should come out of the vault. We can’t have it both ways. As someone who is adamantly against banning books, it would be sheer hypocrisy to keep this banned. All connections to the ride are gone. Parents and adults should be able to make their own decisions.
I definitely think they should bring it back just because some people don’t like it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. People should be able to decide for themselves if they want to see it or not.
PUT AND END TO DAMAGING WOKE CRAP NOW
SO G OF THE SOUTH WAS A BEAUTIFUL PEACEFUL LOVING MOVIE
IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST RIDES IN THE PARK AND THAT WAS MADE FACT WHEN THE LINE WAS NEVER ENDING AT IT CLOSURE I GREW UP WATCHING THIS MOVIE THE CHARACTERS WERE BEAUTIFUL UNCLE REMUS WAS BEAUTIFUL HE WAS NOT A SLAVE HE WAS A LOVING OLD MAN TO TWO SMALL KIDS
I totally agree that they should release the song of the south movie. Not only because it would bring great economic gain to the Company, and it is a reality that can be purchased elsewhere or secretly. but it would also show an act of humility by recognizing that the stereotypes were not correct but that they have improved over time. For many years the Splásh Mountain attraction worked despite the controversy and was one of the most important in the park. so launching it again would be a success. In addition, it would rescue the most important cinematographic work of one of the actors of the African American community. James Baskett. Hopefully they release her in the future.
I’m 47 never even heard of the movie, until after my 6th or 7th time to WDW (I was in my early 40s when I found out about the movie) and a coworker told me about it, then I found a copy of the movie and loved the movie, some ppl are too easily offended and usually it’s their own personal issue. That ride was my favorite before I even knew about the movie
I saw Song Of The South in theaters when I was a child. Had it not been for this film, I would never have been familiar with the Br’er Rabbit stories. It deserves its place in the history and legacy of Disney. It needs to be fully restored and issued on Blu-ray.
And while we are at it, let’s fully restore the Pastoral Symphony segment from Fantasia.
People completely miss the point with this film. First, it is history with all its messiness and uncomfortable reminders but it is also a story where the main character is a black man who keeps a family together by being smarter and wiser than all of them. At the end of the day it shows we need each other and color doesn’t make anyone superior.
Song of the South.
The 1st movie I ever saw. I was a child of 5 or 6, living in the south at the time. My favorite movie, still is. My recollection is this: A family living and working on a farm. A farm worker taking time out from working the fields to tell a story or stories to 2 small kids who lived or had parents working on the farm. It was a funny story about a rabbit, bear and other animals. I thought it was great.
I would love to see the movie again. As a child, I did not see a movie that had anything to do with race. It was just a really good movie.
I’d feel the same way today.
Enough of the nonsense. Bring back “Song of the South” If a disclaimer makes you feel better about it, then do it. It is better to put it on full display and explain any historical inaccuracies or reasons it may rub someone the wrong way. (don’t like it, don’t look at it)
They need to do this. Disney needs to stop being cowards and release it back into existence and people don’t have to watch it. It’s their choice. Even bring back Brer Rabbit and the others back to Splash Mountain.
I remember this film and song and smiling. Never once did I read racist plot to the movie. Still don’t. I wish all the movies be restored.
I doubt any kid then or now would equate racism but rather enjoy the positive message and smile at the wonderful music.
I have always loved the movie. It has very important lessons we all should learn in our lives, hopefully earlier instead of later. I am so glad to be the owner of an official LaserDisc copy of the movie from Japan.
Japan loves this movies in general, and the Japanese Disney park refuses to take out the Splash Mountain ride. They understand how great and important the story and the characters are.
My bet is that Disney with their eyes always on the dollars that can be made will restore and release it. When? In about 15 years. It will enter the public domain in 2041, and I doubt Disney will give up one last chance to make millions from it before that happens.
