I felt DeSantis was wrong with his revenge
against Disneyland. He has overstepped his power as Governor.

    1. Heath Claiborne

      Test

  2. Heath Claiborne

The “confirming” judge was from Delaware speaking at Northwestern. Really??? That’s your reference that Desantis not doing well? Seems biased political activism is being written here 🤔

    1. Dep Dad

I totally agree with Heath Claiborne. This is nothing but anti-Desantis rhetoric.

  3. David Platts

First Amendment rights have limits. The highest example is threats and verbal actions that lead to endangerment of people. However, political views may not enter into the conversation. How obvious is the threat or was an outcome found beyond a reasonable doubt that harm came from verbal actions.

However, as long as limits have not been exceeded, what entity voices an opinion is within the purview of rights.

DeSantis actions appear to be an infringement. He appears to circumvent rights unless the rights are limited to what he views as acceptable. DeSantis is by definition autocratic as defined in my last sentence.

Why is a Delaware judge involved in this?

Once again, Florida’s Desantis slaps at any individual or company that dare disagree with him. He’s a fascist who’s anti-free speech, anti-immigrant, readily used his office to buy votes, raise money via granting power and favors to wealthy supporters. If the mainstream media investigates his abuses of power, he’d be eliminated as a serious contender for street sweeper.

    1. Susan Steiner

      Well said!

  6. MuzzyFush

Free speech. Everyone has the right to free speech, even De Santis.
However, De Santis does not have the right to retaliate in the way he has by trying to punish them just because a company doesn’t support his opinion.

    1. Gretchen Hyde

Disney disagreed with the Bill. DeSantis threatened Disney.

      Who’s wrong here.

  7. Roberr

    Disney is too Woke

    1. Cherry Thompson

I live in Florida DeSantis is the worst Governor we’ve ever had I’ve lived here all my life I pray to God everyday he does not become president

  8. Jssclu

DeSantis was power crazy to go after Disney. Very scary to think of him as President. By the way, he talks about his war time service but forgets to mention that him was overseas as a lawyer, not a seal. He did not fight. He pushed a pencil. Very brave guy????

  9. Gary Roberts

Plain and simple in every way possible, DeSantis is an ASS. He’s a little boy trying to wear grown up clothes and is always trying to prove that he knows considerably more and better than those around him. Hopefully, the courts will put him in his place! He doesn’t deserve to be governor of Florida, let alone president of the USA! Keep him away from the public!

Except if anyone bothers to read the 5 page bill, it is NOT a “don’t say gay” bill. It’s you can’t push sexual orientation on kids in schools…GAY OR STRAIGT. And parents have rights when it comes to their own kids. Hmmm go figure.. parents have rights. How horrible……But by all means…let’s perpetuate the lie.

    1. Iquestion Why

You are obviously a product of Florida schools…it’s “straight” not “straigt”.

Informing is not pushing, understanding of others is a way to decrease bigotry and violence. Regardless, the lawsuit was not about the the rights the law takes away (ie the right to be educated about other people), it was about Disney’s legal right to support the rights of others. You would think a lawyer would know that.

      Keep UP, please.

    2. MCE

Thats funny! Straight people push their strait agendas everyday on everyone whether they realize it or not!

  11. Iquestion Why

Another example of the idiocy of the governor of Florida. To lead a war against one of the biggest employers in the State over a guaranteed right in the Constitution is ludicrous. This man constantly tries to find ways to harm his constituents from giving away vaccines, to refusing funds for green activities that would put money back into constituents pockets, to causing his state the loss of a billion dollar project and putting waste material from a radioactive facility into the roads. Anti-woke? How about about anti-asleep?

  12. Dennis Crowley

The governor is abusing his position for political gain and needs to be constrained by the courts. He is risking damage to Florida’s economy through his unwarranted actions against Florida’s largest employer by demonstrating his personal animosity to Disney. Wrongful exercise of government power against a Florida business.

  13. The lesser evil of the left

I can’t see the comments, but I think it’s for the better. From the comments I have read in the past on this subject, it’s all “anti-woke,” “anti-democracy,” and “pro-authoritarianism.” When these ideas are supported, we lose our rights. We lose our freedoms. What is going on in this country today is scary for anyone who enjoys freedom. Truth matters, and democracy matters. The way things are looking right now, we are headed for an autocratic society where our voices will not be heard, where our votes don’t matter, where we no longer have freedoms. I’m glad this judge has stood by freedom of speech. We need more people who are willing to fight for the rights of the people. No one is above the law of this country. And no one should harbor special privilege when confronted with it. Say what you will, but my free speech is important to me and when exercised, it should be truthful and with good intent. There are so many lies and so kich bad intent right now. The whole world is watching us and they too are scared of what is to come. We are the largest power in the world and if we fall to authoritarianism, what will happen in the rest of the world? What will life be like for our children? What will life be like for all of us? Fight the authoritarianism. Vote like your children’s lives depend on it, because they really do. Fight for democracy.

  14. Kenneth L Gallaher

The GOP has no viable 2024 POTUS candidate – certainly not Ron.

  15. Stephen G. Carroll

Corporations exert their 1st amendment rights when they contribute to political campaigns. Certainly, their speech is also protected.

  16. tom

    yes

  17. Tony

I believe that the so-called governor is throwing his weight around for political purposes.. Disney has been a massive help to South Florida and with his meddling has caused a ripple in everything. There’s a big chance that he will have a caused a lot of people in the area to be without pay

  18. Virginia Dennehy

Whatever anyone believes, I believe that Disney is 100% correct and the First Amendment seems to agree.

    1. DeSantis worst Governor ever

  19. Dr. B.

    Go 🐭 we the people of FL stand w u 👍🏻♀️♂️⚧️ 🏳️‍🌈

  20. Stephanie

So a Delware judge not a Florida judge gave her personal not legal opinion not having the case before her and not know what evidence has been presented in the case. Sounds like someone I would not want to practice law in front of.

  21. Yep

Disney doesn’t have the right to free speech. That’s the right of citizens in the United States. Not corporations. Corporations have absolutely no rights to involve themselves in politics. They can take their happy asses back to California

    1. david

You need to be Baker Acted

  22. I definitely agree with the judge! While I understand that Florida’s governor may be upset about Chapek’s comment and stand, he is protected by our amendment regardless of where he works.

  23. Barbara

Disney needs to stay out of politics! They are suppose to be an entertainment place for children & Adults. Walt would have never approved of all this nonsense!! Just like sports, it is suppose to be there to entertain us not push other views on us!!

  24. Dave 62

Don’t think a business should have any right to influence children into other choices, very wrong or the people who workfor them

    1. curlybill

The people who work for them are making a statement. The Governor should be inclusive not exclusive. Embrace diversity.

  25. Camille

Disney is in the right and Governor DeSantis is wrong. Freedom of speech and all that. His judgement is just wrong.

  26. Mike

Instead of posting DeSantis is wrong and Disney is right, perhaps a news sight could report that a judge agrees with Disneys position. Sounds more like factual reporting than an opinion piece.

  27. curlybill

    Disney right and DeSantis wrong

  28. Curious as to why a judge from Delaware is committing on a Florida case, still in court? Doesn’t that show a lack of objectivity in the courtroom for an ongoing legal matter? Please have your reporter clarify why this judge was even consulted

  29. Jon Jerret

She was appointed by Charlie Crist. She is a liberal activist Judge. enough said.

    1. David

She’s a Judge in Delaware nimrod

  30. Alex Gimelstein

Can you imagine ever voting for a fascist pig like DeSantis.
As a Latin, American, veteran I prefer a democracy.

  31. Abby

Desantis is a goofy character who is trying to be some kind of tough guy but he comes across as petty

  32. Michael

Of course Disney is winning. We all have the right to disagree with DeSantis, including Disney.

  33. john

corporations should stay out of politics, regardless if right or wrong

  34. Jeff

They did nothing wrong. So many people argue about rights, freedom and then you disagree or say something they don’t like and they abuse there power and attack your right to disagree????? Makes no sense. To much my way or the highway mentality going on lately. Respect, acceptance, just human dignity is out the door.

  35. Gov. DeSantis definitely was wrong. But he thinks he right all the time, but actually he’s being himself – a narcissist.
Glad the judge finally let it be know that ‘You are Wrong,’ Ron DeSantis. Let it go!

  36. Edwin

If Corporations are treated as “Individuals”, then “Disney Corporation” has a Right of “Free Speech” and to “Defend their Position if they feel they need to, just like their Human “Individual” Counterparts.

  37. Marion

DeSantis is always wrong. Whenever he opens his mouth, he is wrong.

  38. Bob

There isn’t a mention of “Gay” in the entire bill. When are you going to write factual information???

  39. Marsha

A corporation, like any U.S citizen, has every right to speak its mind on public policy. That is what Democracy stands for! Glad they are winning!

  40. Everything you report is for Disney , good reporting doesn’t have an opinion! A corporation has the same freedom of speech as a individual?

  41. Bob

DeSantis stood up and defended the children of this state, I commend him for it.

  42. Theresa Jenkins

I’m with DeSantis all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. Michael Frierson

Desantis may be wrong for imposing a charge or penalty against a company or a person who speaks against a policy or law. The action wasn’t him alone. AND it was not a legal penalty

His proposal was passed by the Legislature. It wasn’t him alone making rules.
The move to end the self governing provison isn’t a legal charge penalty. It’s removing a decades old privilege the Legislature gave Disney to set up their business enterprise in Florida. Ending the special Self governance and tax exemptions for Disney has been ongoing issue with Florida and the counties that Disney property is in for decades. Disney Corporation buys off the Political policy makers by spending money on projects and organizations in the area to keep there tax protection racquet. Self governance and self sustaining community is a farce. They only created this Disneytown, called Celebration in the 2OOO’s the special condition was granted in 1960’s. The Disneytown and disney property is not self run. Until 2001 people went to public schools operated by Orange and Osceola Counties. Power is supplied by local power companies, water by local water services. Fire, Police and Ambulance services are provided to the Celebration Disney town by Osceola County Sheriff Office, FIre and EMS Services. Disney pays them every time a service is called for in the form of a fee.
It has been long past time the Disney exemption privilege ended. Disney was not charged with a crime or unjustly punished for their expression of free speech.
