This ride is more unique than article leads on. It did not start with being pulled out of station backwards. It had a unique cable and flywheel launch directly out of the station. Can’t think of any still operating rides that don’t use pneumatic, hydraulic, or electromagnetic launches. Watching the giant fly wheel start turning while people were loading was pretty cool.
This was one of my mother’s favorite rides before she passed in 2022. She rode it over 100 times in a single day and all 3 of her children had this rollercoaster as our first ever rollercoaster 🥰 this was the last ride left that we could share found memories of our mother over. Such a shame that they want to get rid of so many memories. Not just for my family but for millions of families from around the world!
As a Ride-Op for Fiesta Village at Knott’s Berry Farm (as well as currently a Scare Actor for Scary Farm 50) all I can say is Montezooma is getting a New Launch System after Xcelorator is Updated Too, which may reopen in a month or earlier! In the article, you said Montezooma would “pull guests backward up an elevated track”, when for 40 years would Launch Guests via a Cable using a Fly-Wheel! Numerous Rides are Updated, some taking Priority over others! Thanks & “See You in the Fog”!
Perhaps you know why they can’t get their act together. They supposedly had to wait 18 months for a part to fix Xcelerator, and then after testing, and while training ride operators, it broke again. Was it a different part that broke? If it was the same part, then won’t it take another 1 1/2 years to get a new one?
And if they’re still going to fix Montezooma’s, why has it been sitting with no work done for most of 2023? Why can’t they work on it while they’re waiting around for whatever they’re waiting for on Xcelerator?
I am looking forward to this rollercoaster’s return. My brother and I would ride this many times in a row when we were younger. I also appreciate the name and reference to the Mexika/ Aztecs Nation. Just like Jaguar shares some aspects of Mayan Cultural aesthetics, it would be nice to see the renovation lean more into storytelling and uplifting Mexika/ Aztec peoples.

It’s been around since I was a kid. Always one of the smoothest and funnest ride for so long. Seems rather odd to remove it
