Observation. Disney responded to COVID and a changing business environment by increasing the costs passed to the consumer while reducing operating costs.
    1. Magical Express was a convenience to guests. With services like Meers and ride share there was no way to monetize it so it was cut.
    2. Fast pass was very easy to monetize making a previous perk into a funding stream. Disney took a page from the competitors and in this they followed the herd instead of leading it. And dynamic pricing allows up to the minute supply and demand price increases.
    3. Food portions reduced while costs increased. Obviously meant to benefit our waistlines.
    4. Park reservations allowed precise staffing decisions to control labor costs.
    4. Ticket costs sharply increased, added to decreased labor costs maximizes profit.

The decision to upcharge for things that had previously had not been additional costs is logical from the strictly profit based perspective. From a long-term customer service perspective it seems to focus on the “once in lifetime” or every several years visitor versus the frequent repeat visitors. Time will tell if this is reliable profit model. it has alienated me, previously an AP holder and a current DVC member. My experience with paying more and receiving less is disgruntling.

Lightening lane and Disney Genie are terrible for families traveling with young children or older grandparents. Times available are often inconvenient with already planned meal reservations, naptime for the children and rest time for the elderly. On top of that, Disney expects to be PAID MONEY for this inconvenience. And parents need to be on their cell phone early in the morning to book the attractions, when they should be getting their kids to potty, eat breakfast and get on the buses. The old fast passes which could be booked from home, weeks before the trip, and allowed parents to take into consideration meal reservations and family’s schedules was so much better. We no longer take big family trips to Disney after trying out the lightening lane/ disney genie fiasco. It’s now Universal and Legoland for us. Very sad that they ruined disney for families.
