Not gonna happen. Infrastructure, weather, cost overruns, staffing and a host of other things will make this project difficult if not impossible to complete.
Nobody who is not a solid white conservative wants to go to Oklahoma nor to a theme park about “Americana”. There also won’t be any draw for foreign visitors which make up a significant percentage of Disney & Universal park income. The fact that it’s biggest draw is an RV park tells the whole story.
Yup…when I first heard this rumor my first thought was that the weather in that area would never allow enough tickets and merchandise to be sold to ever make such a park profitable. In addition to having to close for the winter, theere would be way too many days when hazardous weather would force closures even during the “good” season. Walt Disney knew this very well, which is why he chose the locations he did for his parks, even though he could have gotten cheaper land elsewhere. There really is nowhere else in the country a feasible year-round park could be built.
It is very interesting to see all the cerebral comments on us rubes in the midwest – if I didn’t know any better I would say they were discriminating in much the same way they accuse white people. Did it EVER occur to you that your liberal worldview is the minority – you just whine, cry and pout to get your way. Us rubes just don’t patronize the garbage we don’t like
My first concern was, where are they going to find the water it will require. Next, there are only about 4 months out of a year that the weather is wonderful. I can get behind the theme as long as they leave the ‘Bible Belt’ parts out. History & Customs of each part of the US might be interesting, but the rides and attractions will have to be above the averages.
Ever since Disney had gone far left and alienated the middle, right and some of their left familiesThere is a massive need for a theme park like this. Essentially this theme park will be taking business away from Disney.
This is why you are a journalist and why you are not marketing.
This is an interesting location. First it is within the Cherokee Nation. Will this mean there will be a casino nearby? Support from the Nation?
Branson is in the middle of nowhere and is only 150 miles away. They draw 10M visitors a year. Mansion Entertainment knows the area. It is near the Ozarks, another popular destination. 4.5M visitors per year might not be unreasonable.
Disney built WDW in the middle of the hurricane belt and survives every year. Tornados as a possible hazard that can be designed around with shelters and appropriate construction. This area is not the open plains of western Oklahoma, but the greener eastern end of the state.
1000 acres is not the size of WDW, but is twice the size of Universal Orlando. This should allow off site developers to get in on the action with attractions, restaurants and hotels nearby.
While the winters in Oklahoma are colder than Florida, they are on a par with Pidgeon Forge and Branson. The theme parks there are only closed for the very coldest January and February months, during which the parks are refurbished each year. Oklahoma could do the same, while including other attractions in the area for year round operation. An indoor water park was mentioned, also a possibility of a casino. TV and movie studios would also be year round businesses.
I find it appalling that grown ass adult women have a perception of having to ask permission in Oklahoma or any state as well as other adults thinking Oklahoma means rednecks, anti gay or marry your cousin bs. You know where it’s legal to marry your first cousin? CALIFORNIA & FLORIDA. Each state has it’s own issues with mother nature as well. I live on Kansas, grew up visiting the area where this is at and bringing wholesome fun for families should not be met with derision but cheering them on.
AGREE Lori!
Oklahoma experiences all 4 beautiful weather seasons with the good and bad that each season brings, just like all other states. Oklahoma has a wide variety of diverse individuals, but yet is mostly known for friendly, laid-back and good-natured people. Can’t we just rally together for once people and hope some awesome organization like the Mansion Entertainment Group can create a fun, positive, great escape from daily realities for us all to visit in the central part of America. A place to have fun, with family, friends, spouses, partners, whom ever you choose to do life with and get outdoors and laugh and play. So tired of negativity in this world, and especially about such a positive announcement coming to a state that is actually very nice, affordable and laid back over all. NW Oklahoma is very green and full of beauty. Look up Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees before making judgement on the parks location. I hope for the best Mansion Group! Good Luck and hope to be laughing and enjoying your theme park in a few years!

s that why Disney was going to build an American history park and the only reason it died was the people in the area didn’t want it?
